REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: WHEN A LADY DARES by TARA KINGSTON

They must tear down their defenses and learn to trust their hearts

WHEN A LADY DARES
Her Majesty's Most Secret Service #2
Tara Kingston
Released May 15, 2017
Entangled Select Historical

In When a Lady Dares (Her Majesty's Most Secret Service #2) by Tara Kingston, as a secret operative for the Crown, Sophie Atherton can easily spot when someone's lying. However, it's not as if she can call Gavin Stanwyck out on his deception when she's just as guilty. Determined to discover clues to a series of unexplained deaths, Sophie finds herself becoming more embroiled in her employment with a phony medium. Yet, when her investigation starts to turn dangerous, will Sophie put her trust in Gavin?

What do readers get when Ms. Kingston mixes Historical Romance with a good dose of suspense? Well, they get an exciting and riveting read, which grabbed my attention from the very beginning and kept my eyes glued to every word, as Gavin and Sophie face a lot of danger that made me want to know what would happen next, especially since Sophie isn't very welcoming towards Gavin the moment they meet. Will Sophie put her trust in Gavin when things become too dangerous? Will she listen to Gavin's advice when it comes to facing the danger in terms of facing it head on or running from it?

The dialogue was intriguing and had me hooked due to what the heroine must do to uncover the information she needs. She makes connecting with the dead look easy, even though Gavin believes she's nothing more than a charlatan deceiving everyone with her words of hope. Moreover, I liked how the heroine stands up to the hero and doesn't back down when it comes to her safety. Certainly, she's strong, brave, loyal, independent and I liked how determined she was to discover the information she needed. Seriously, she didn't give up when things became too dangerous and that's what I liked most about her.

While the hero, he has his own reasons for wanting answers and I could understand why he pushes the heroine to get what he wants. Luckily, she can handle the hero and provides quite a challenge for him with her stubbornness and desire to do things on her own. I also liked how protective he was of the heroine, because he's beginning to realize that she's not the charlatan he thought she was. But instead, is a complex woman with many secrets he's determined to discover. Will he learn the truth of who she really is and why she's working for a man she doesn't particularly like?

Overall, Ms. Kingston has penned a fantastic read in this book where the chemistry was potent, compelling and had me hoping for the very best for this couple, as there were moments when I wasn't certain they'd achieve their happy ever after. The way this story ended had me on the edge-of-my-seat due to what happens to the main characters. How will the pair manage to get themselves out of trouble? However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up really well, as readers learn how far this couple have come in their relationship and I loved the way they tease each other about love and Gavin's response to what the heroine's initial reaction to the hero was. I would recommend When a Lady Dares by Tara Kingston, if you enjoy Historicals by Darcy Burke, Callie Hutton or Tamara Gill.

“The way I see it, you set forth a challenge. I am debating whether or not to accept it.”

“A challenge?” She frowned. “I don’t follow.”

He unfolded his arms and stalked to where she stood. Gently, his hands draped her shoulders. Strong, but without pressure. Without violence. “You said I would have to try harder for you to be convinced I am a scoundrel. What is that, if not a challenge?”

Words hovered on the tip of her tongue but failed to escape her lips. He shouldn’t be holding her, regardless of how warm his hands were against her body. He shouldn’t be so very near. She drank in subtle notes of sandalwood on his jaw and his throat. He shouldn’t be studying her with those perceptive eyes, a glint of sensual interest darkening his sapphire irises.

She drew in a breath, even as he held her closer still. If she’d detected any hint of danger, she would’ve brought him to the ground with a well-placed knee or a calculated swing of her weighted reticule against the pulse point behind his ear. But this man did not present that nature of a threat.

No, the danger in his touch was more subtle. More insidious. And ultimately, far more powerful. She could not betray the effect he had on her. She could not give him that weapon against her.

“I meant what I said.” A miracle, how steady she held her tone. “When I look at you, I do not see a cad. I see a man in need of answers. The only question is, what are the answers you truly seek?”

“And if I kissed you? Would you think me a rogue?”

The heat in his gaze kindled a spark deep within her, but she steeled herself against the sudden and powerful need. She could not let on how delicious his breath felt against her cheek, how good…how right…it felt to be in his arms.

“No.” She lifted her gaze to lock with his. “I would think you a man, with a man’s desires and needs. Nothing more. Nothing less.”

“You are a temptation I could not have anticipated.” A tiny muscle in his jaw tensed. “And I…well, I am a bloody fool.”

His hands slid lower, settling on her leg-of-mutton sleeves, and he dipped his head. She might’ve imagined the sound, but his breath seemed a sigh. And then, his lips claimed hers in a kiss.

Oh, my, such a delicious caress. Shock rippled through Sophie’s veins, coupled with an instinctive alarm. Not fear. Far from it. Rather, this man’s touch should not feel so very tempting, so very tender. So maddeningly right.

Tasty Q&A with Tara Kingston

1) Can you tell us a little about your book?
I’d love to tell you a bit about When A Lady Dares. The story is set in London during the late Victorian era, a few years after Jack the Ripper roamed the alleys of Whitechapel. The heroine of the story, Sophie Atherton, is an undercover agent for a secret government agency called upon to pursue criminals who pose a threat to England—cases that require specialized expertise and resources beyond the realm of Scotland Yard. Here’s a brief summary of the story:
In Victorian London, a daring female agent confronts a notorious rogue, but who’s seducing who?
Sophie Atherton knows a liar when she sees one. Perhaps because she’s so skilled at deception herself. Searching for clues to a string of mysterious deaths, the secret operative for the Crown has connived her way into a phony medium’s confidence. When a dashing archaeologist seeks out the charlatan’s services, Sophie suspects he’s after more than a long-lost heirloom. Their electric attraction storms her defenses, but loving the rakish scholar would threaten her investigation and the life she’s crafted.

2) If you had a theme song, what would it be?
It’s a tie between three songs, depending on my mood:
Paperback Writer (The Beatles)
Don’t Stop (Fleetwood Mac)
Roar (Katy Perry)
3) Name one thing you won’t leave home without.
My e-reader…I always have to have a great book on hand.
4) Name three things on your desk right now.
My laptop, a variety of multi-colored post-it notes with my scribblings on them, and a very old folder with Han Solo’s picture on it, just because… after all, who wouldn’t want a large picture of Harrison Ford on their desk?
5)What do you like to do when you aren't writing?
When I’m not writing, I love to spend time outdoors with my husband. We ride our bicycles, hike in the state parks near our home, take long walks, and generally, enjoy nature. I also like to head to the beach every chance I get—a day at the beach is good for my soul. I enjoy watching a good comedy, and in the fall, I love getting together with friends to watch football and cheer on my favorite team.
6) If you could have dinner with any three authors (alive or dead), who would you choose and why?
Jane Austen —I’d love to discuss her inspiration for Mr. Darcy and get her thoughts on a matter of great importance—who’s the better Darcy—Colin Firth or Matthew Macfadyen? For the record, I’m Team Firth.
Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley — She wrote Frankenstein… need I say more? Discussing her inspiration for the novel and the characters would be fascinating. I’d also love to get her opinion on the great portrayals of the monster in film… who’s her favorite—Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee, Peter Boyle, or Robert DeNiro? Personally, I have a soft-spot for Peter Boyle’s portrayal in Young Frankenstein (or is that Fronk-en-steen?)
Charlotte Bronte — Jane Eyre is one of my all-time favorite novels. I’d be thrilled to discuss the inspiration for Mr. Rochester with the author who created him…simply fascinating!
7) What 5 things should readers know about you?
~ I am hopelessly devoted to Fox Mulder and have watched every episode of the X-Files.
~ I can cook, but it’s a pretty rare occasion when I make anything from scratch. I’d rather be writing, biking, walking, laughing at a good comedy, reading on a beach, reading on my porch, painting furniture… pretty much anything but standing in the kitchen.
~ I do not like sad movies and books. I’d much read a happily-ever-after or enjoy a movie comedy or a rollicking adventure—Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of my favorite movies of all time. The adventure, the gorgeous hero (yes, I adore Harrison Ford, as evidenced by the fact I possess a years-old folder with Han Solo on the front), and the touches of humor make it an ideal movie for me.
~ We have two kitties who were incredibly innocent-looking when we adopted them from the shelter, but the pair quickly began to compete for the title of “bad kitty”. We’ve actually had to child-proof a cabinet in the kitchen to keep one of them from opening the door and walking right in, and trust me, you do not want to see what they will do to a bag of treats that’s left out on the counter. But they make up for their naughtiness with their sweet, loving ways. They really are cuddle-bugs.
~ As a child, I loved to read Nancy Drew books non-stop. Even then, I enjoyed stories with clever heroines and a good mystery. This has definitely carried over to my own novels. I love to read and write romance with strong heroines and an air of mystery threaded through the story.

REVIEW: COURTING THE CORPORAL by HEATHER McCORKLE

Courting the Corporal
Emerald Belles #2
By: Heather McCorkle
Releasing June 27th, 2017
Lyrical Shine

In Courting the Corporal (Emerald Belles #2) by Heather McCorkle, Catriona O'Brian is ready to start over and what better place to settle down than California. However, she needs an escort to travel with and Corporal Patrick 'Rick' Fergusson is perfect for the job. Yet, Catriona and Patrick's journey isn't easy, especially since someone doesn't want Catriona to achieve her dream of starting a winery. Will Patrick be able to keep Catriona safe, or will their chance at happy ever after be ripped away because of someone conspiring against her?

Historical Romance is not a sub-genre of romance I read a lot of, but when I do, it's because the blurb has enticed me enough to want to read the book. However, it wasn't just the blurb that had me choosing to read this story. It was also the recommendations I've had from other book friends to read something by this author as well as the cover and title, which had me hoping that the heroine would get her man. The way this story started had me liking the heroine immediately, as she's been through so much and is determined to have a fresh start in order to follow her dream. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine came face-to-face for the first time in this story that made this book a real page turner for me, as neither are all that friendly towards the other. The question is - is it because there's an instant attraction they're not ready for?

As for the dialogue, it was powerful, emotional and I liked how it shows the characters have overcome a lot, despite their painful back stories. The heroine had it tough with her husband, but she's a survivor, which is proven by how strong and brave she is when it comes to the trouble they face on their journey. I also liked her feisty attitude and how she proves that she's capable of taking on the bad guys if needed. Yet, what I enjoyed most of all about the heroine was her willingness to stick with Patrick through thick and thin, even when she has every reason to want to run and hide in a moment where he seems out of control with memories of the past.

While the hero, he's been through so much in his life with being a soldier in the war. It isn't easy for him reliving the memories, and I could sympathize with him in the moment where he believes he's lost the heroine's trust. Moreover, I liked the playful banter at times between the hero and heroine, as it shows their growing relationship is starting to tip towards them liking each other, instead of disliking each other like it seemed they did when they first met. I also liked how protective the hero was of the heroine, even though it's palpable he didn't need to be. Still, he proves he's the complete opposite to her ex.

Overall, Ms. McCorkle has penned an incredible read in this book, where the chemistry was palpable, fervent and very enjoyable to read, because these two were so deserving of their happy ever after, especially after what they've been through in the past. The way this story ended had me on the edge-of-my-seat due to the danger they face. Will they come out on top of the bad guys? However, in saying that, I liked how things turned out for Rick and Catriona, because they're meant to be together. Moreover, the epilogue made this story very interesting, as Catriona's friends are just as strong and brave as she is and I liked how they face danger head on. I would recommend Courting the Corporal by Heather McCorkle, if you enjoy Historical Romance, second chance romances or books by authors Tara Kingston, Callie Hutton or Erica Ridley.

REVIEW: RUNNING TARGET by KARI LEMOR

Running Target
Love on the Line #2
By: Kari Lemor
Releasing July 4th, 2017
Lyrical Underground

In Running Target (Love on the Line #2) by Kari Lemor, learning from Angelo Cabrini, the son of a mob boss, that the woman he was secretly seeing was pregnant, FBI agent Jack Holland will do anything to keep her safe. Except things don't turn out like he hopes, and instead he finds himself on the run after killing Angelo. Even worse, if mob boss, Victor Cabrini, ever learns the truth that Callie's baby isn't his grandson, all hell will break loose. Can Jack find the evidence he needs to put Victor behind bars for good, or will he and Callie's chance at happy ever after never happen?

Ms. Lemor's incredible writing skills shine in this second story of her Love on the Line series, as she takes readers on a captivating journey about a couple hopefully finding their way back to each other to achieve their happy ever after; a hero needing to remain under the radar from the bad guys while trying to discover the evidence to take them down; and a heroine that will do anything to protect her son, even if it means deceiving a very bad man. The way this story started had me concerned for the hero, as aggravating the son of a mob boss is dangerous, which is proven by what happens to Jack. Will he be okay?

As for the dialogue, it was well-written, intense and took me on a wild ride due to the challenges Jack and Callie face and I was drawn in by the emotional rollercoaster these characters endure. Everything from the joy their son provides them to the anger towards the situation Jack has found himself in to the fear that something will happen to one of them and the love Jack and Callie have for each other had an effect on me, and had me turning the pages quickly determined to discover what these two would face towards the end to achieve their happy ever after.

Both the main characters are captivating due to their back stories and their growing relationship. All Callie has ever wanted was to be loved and be a part of a family, which was something she never experienced with her own. However, learning the truth about Angelo and his father was devastating and I could understand why she took the measures she did for her and her child. Do the rewards outweigh the risks? Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how determined she was to keep her son safe, even if it meant doing something she didn't want to do. I also liked that she was willing to take the risk that she did, because she and Jack needed to be free of the threat to their lives, if they were to ever be together.

While Jack, he goes through so much in this story and I couldn't help but sympathize with his situation. He broke the rules by getting involved with Callie, and yet, it's the best thing he's ever done. Moreover, I liked how Jack did everything in his power to be there for Callie and his son, no matter how dangerous it could be for him. I also liked how protective he was of those he loved, and that he would do anything to keep them safe, even if it meant doing the hardest thing he's ever had to do in respecting Callie's wishes. Will he be able to keep his distance?

Overall, Ms. Lemor has delivered a scintillating read in this book where the chemistry was riveting; the secondary characters entertained me just as much as the main ones; and the ending took me completely by surprise with what happened to the bad guy, yet left me with a bright smile on my face because of how things turned out between Callie and Jack. They're so lucky and deserve all the happiness they achieve in the end, especially Callie's surprise. I would recommend Running Target by Kari Lemor, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the second chance romance trope, the sexy protector trope or books by authors AJ Nuest, Kelly Moran, Laura Griffin or Cate Beauman.

Nothing, though, could make Jack regret the liaison that led to the birth of their son, Jonathan.

After Angelo discovered Callie’s pregnancy, he went after Jack and wound up dead. Now Jack is on the run with a target on his back. The only thing keeping Callie and Jonathan safe is the mob boss's belief that the baby is his grandchild. RELEASE BLAST - REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: AIRMAN TO THE RESCUE by HEATHERLY BELL

She's off-limits...and perfect for him!

AIRMAN TO THE RESCUE
Heroes of Fortune Valley #2
Heatherly Bell
Releasing June 1, 2017
Harlequin Superromance

In Airman to the Rescue (Heroes of Fortune Valley #2) by Heatherly Bell, when the contractor Sarah McAllister hired to renovate her late father's house is arrested, Matt Conner is determined to come to her rescue. However, Sarah isn't a woman to accept help easily, so the pair compromise to allow them both to benefit. Yet, Matt moving into the spare bedroom in the house could spell trouble, especially since Sarah is his best friend's sister. Will Matt and Sarah give in to their chemistry, or will their chance at happy ever after never happen?

This is only the second book that I've ever read by Ms. Bell, and I've got to say that it was just as riveting as the first book I read by her. The way this story started had me sympathizing with the heroine, as she needs the work done on her late father's house to be able to sell it and get the fresh start she wants. Yet unfortunately, it seems all hope is lost, because she's not about to let anyone swoop in and be her knight in shining armor when she's the one that messed up. Will Matt be able to convince her that she doesn't have a choice but to accept his help? Will they be able to come to an agreement that will benefit both of them?

As for the main characters, both are captivating and entertained me with their back stories, their growing relationship and the challenges they face on their journey to happy ever after. Sarah doesn't believe in love, as in the past she once believed sex equaled love, and yet, that was never the case as she found out with every guy she was with letting her down. Will Matt be able to show her that love is a good thing? Moreover, the heroine is strong and brave by what she's doing and I liked how she's determined to go after what she wants -- Matt. Really, they're good for each other, especially since Sarah helps Matt with his son and shows him there's more to being a parent than just discipline. That there must be trust between the pair also, if Matt is to ever have a better relationship with his son. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine is that she finally started making decisions that were right for her, instead of continuing to make decisions for someone else in her life that was too needy.

While Matt, I really liked him. He's determined to have a better relationship with his son and I liked how tight their father-son bond was towards the end. I also liked how he won over the heroine, which is proven by all that he does for her. Although, there are a few embarrassing moments on the heroine's behalf that had me laughing, especially the moment with the lingerie. Moreover, the hero is confident,  hard-working and I liked how determined he was to help the heroine. No way was he going to take no for an answer, not when she needed someone with his expertise.

Overall, Ms. Bell has delivered a delightful read in this book where the chemistry was strong, the secondary characters were just as entertaining as the main ones and I loved how they weren't afraid to offer their opinions when it came to Sarah and Matt's relationship, because they believe the pair are good together. The way this story ended had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after, as Sarah is finally ready to live her own life, instead of putting it on hold because she feels she owes her mom so much. I also liked how things ended between the hero and heroine, because both deserve to be happy after all that they've been through in the past. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly, as Sarah is finally following her dream and she has such wonderful support in the secondary characters. I would recommend Airman to the Rescue by Heatherly Bell, if you enjoy second chance romances or the brother's best friend trope.

She's off-limits…and perfect for him!

It was supposed to be easy. Sarah Mcallister was going to flip her late father's house and head back to Colorado for a fresh start. But when her shady contractor gets arrested, taking most of her budget with him, she's at risk of losing everything. Enter Matt Conner…sexy pilot, single dad, Sarah's brother's best friend…and far too good with his hands for her peace of mind.

Moving into Sarah's spare bedroom is just asking for trouble, but Matt's trying to make amends with his troubled teen son, and a key step is finding a decent place to crash for as long as it takes. And the woman needs his help. Unfortunately, the closer the house gets to reno-perfect, the more he knows Sarah is meant to stay in Fortune Valley…with him.

Sarah stumbled into the now dark living room, and found Matt lying on the couch, Shackles curled up at his feet. Through the sliver of moonlight shining through the window, she could make out that he had his shirt off, a pillow over his face. As if she’d given him a headache.
Wait until she got going. “Matt.”
Under his pillow, she heard him groan.
“What’s going on here?” She stood hands on hips and then decided that looked too accusatory for seduction, so she relaxed her arms at her sides.
“Go to sleep, Sarah.”
“No.”
He lifted the pillow from his face, one eye open. “I don’t want to argue with you.”
“I don’t want to argue, either. I just want you to tell me what happened tonight.”
“Guess if you don’t know, I must not have done it right.”
“You did everything right.” Her voice softened. Now that she faced this—thing—between them her mouth was parched and dry. But she couldn’t lose her nerve now. “The only thing you did wrong was stop.”
“Wasn’t my choice.”
“But now it is.”
He didn’t move. “Go to sleep. Please.”
“Well, since you said please.”
“Seriously? That’s all it takes?”
“No. I lied. I’ll go to sleep, but not until you hear me out. I might be Stone’s sister, but I’m also a grown woman and I know what I want.”
“What do you want? Because I thought you wanted to fix this house and flip it. Sell it so you can get back to Colorado.”
Couldn’t a woman want more than one thing? “I want you, Matt. That’s what I want.”
“Do you? Be careful what you’re asking for. Maybe you don’t know me as well as you think you do.”
“I know enough. I know you’re one of the good guys.”
He snorted. “Yeah.”
“Do you think I’m going to fall in love with you? Is that it? Because that’s not an issue. I don’t believe in love.”
At that he removed the pillow from his head. “You don’t believe in love.”
“Does that shock you? Why should it? I grew up as the child of a broken home and I’ve seen more divorces around me than I care to remember. You of all people should understand.”
“Me of all people?”
“You’re also from a broken home. And…you’re a single father.”
“That doesn’t mean I don’t believe in love. And I think it’s pretty messed up that you don’t, Sarah.”
“Okay. What do you want? Is it me at all? Because a couple of hours ago you had me pretty well convinced, so if you’ve changed your mind you need to tell me now.”
There. She couldn’t believe she’d let all her thoughts spill out at last. Everything she’d intended to tell him for months had come pouring out of her lips, like the semidark of the room had given her added courage. In the ensuing quiet Sarah didn’t think he would answer her at all. Worse, in the dark of the room she couldn’t take a cue from his usually expressive eyes.
“I want you, Sarah.” He finally spoke, the sound of his voice so naked and raw that Sarah’s knees went boneless.

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: BLACK TIE OPTIONAL by ANN MARIE WALKER

The Proposal meets Two Weeks Notice in Ann Marie Walker's
new standalone romantic comedy, Black Tie Optional!

BLACK TIE OPTIONAL
Wild Wedding #1
Ann Marie Walker
Releasing May 30, 2017
St. Martin's Press

In Black Tie Optional (Wild Wedding #1) by Ann Marie Walker, Coleman 'Cole' Grant the third has exhausted every avenue to quash a clause his parents put in their will, so it looks like he'll have to get married, if he's to remain in charge of the family company. Asking the woman who has been harassing him with her humanitarian causes is perfect, especially since they'll both end up with what they want out of their agreement. Except what starts off as a marriage of convenience turns into so much more. Will Cole and Olivia confess their love for each other before it's too late?

Ms. Walker is a new-to-me author and this first book of her Wild Wedding series was a beguiling and fast-paced read that held my undivided attention from start to finish. Due to the delightful main and secondary characters that amused me with their dialogue; the plot that pits Cole against another secondary character and made this story a real page turner in discovering who would win, and the ending that had me smiling because Cole finally ascertains what love is since he's never really experienced the emotion before. The way this story started had me cheering for the heroine in hopes she'd be able to convince Cole to see things her way. Will Cole give in to whatever she's asking of him?

Both the main characters were riveting and made this story fun due to them being enemies and constantly butting heads -- so to speak. Because they couldn't both have what they wanted until the moment where Cole needs Olivia to make sure the family company continues to be run by him. Moreover, Olivia is resilient, sassy, and I liked how determined she was to get what she wanted from Cole. Even if it meant going against her better judgment and doing her best to fool everyone into believing she and the hero in love? Can they pull off the ruse?

While Cole, I loved the way he interacted with the heroine, as she makes life interesting for him since it seems Cole is all work and no play. I also liked how kind and caring he was, and how much he loves his sister, which is proven by everything he does for her and the way he's always there for her when she needs him. Yet, what I liked most about the hero is how he handled everything thrown his way and that he was willing to do whatever it takes to win, even though love wasn't part of his plan.

Overall, Ms. Walker has penned a really good read in this book that kept me entertained from start to finish and where this couple's intense chemistry had me believing these two are so right for each other, even if they did start out as enemies. The way this story ended left me with a huge smile on my face, as Olivia isn't afraid to go head to head with the person that wants to be in charge of the family company and I liked what she said to prove how strong her feelings are for Cole. I also liked how Cole realizes what he wants and is willing to fight for a future with Olivia. No way is he going to let one of the secondary characters meddling in his relationship win. Moreover, I liked how Cole surprised her with something he received from one of Olivia's parents that shows he had their blessing when it came to their relationship, despite how their relationship began. I would recommend Black Tie Optional by Ann Marie Walker, if you're looking for a fun read with witty banter, enjoy the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Kelly Elliott, Avery Flynn or Kristen Proby.

BLURB
The Proposal meets Two Weeks Notice in Ann Marie Walker's new standalone romantic comedy, Black Tie Optional, which New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst calls, "a fun, sexy romp that will keep every reader entertained!"

Everything about Coleman Grant III oozes power and sex. And not the perfunctory kind either, but the sheet clawing, heart stopping, gasping for air after you’ve screamed so loud you can’t breathe kind. From his dark wavy hair that stands in an artfully rumpled mess, to the blue eyes that sear your skin, to his full, sensual lips - on the surface he’s pure perfection.

Too bad he's an asshole. An arrogant, uptight corporate raider hell bent on destroying the environment one species at a time.

Everything about Olivia Ramsey screams hippie humanitarian. From her blond hair tied in a sloppy bun, to her faded jeans with the Bonnaroo patch sewn on the thigh, to her combat boots still splattered with mud from the previous day’s site visit.

So it makes perfect sense that they would get married. In Vegas. Stone-cold sober. Cole needs a wife. Olivia needs to save an endangered species. But what starts as a marriage of convenience soon turns into a battle of wills and sexual tension. Love is a game, and Olivia and Cole are ready to win.

Ann Marie Walker writes steamy books about sexy boys. She's a fan of fancy cocktails, anything chocolate, and 80s rom-coms. Her super power is connecting any situation to an episode of Friends and she thinks all coffee cups should be the size of a bowl. If it's December she can be found watching Love Actually but the rest of the year you can find her at AnnMarieWalker.com where she would be happy to talk to you about alpha males, lemon drop martinis or supermodel David Gandy. Ann Marie attended the University of Notre Dame and currently lives in Chicago.

Tasty Q&A with Ann Marie Walker
Favorite writing place.
Honestly it varies from book to book, but Black Tie Optional was written almost exclusively at the corner table of my local Starbucks and I have the gold star rewards to prove it haha.
If they could sit and write in a different country where would it be?
I've had the chance to visit the UK recently and as a result am thinking of basing my next series there. Maybe it's my love of Hugh Grant rom-coms, but after a few days in Notting Hill, the ideas were flying!
Co-writing have you done it with another author, if not, would you?
The first series I wrote, Chasing Fire, was co-authored with Amy K. Rogers. It was a wonderfully collaborative process but we always knew I would write solo as well (hence publishing under both our names versus one pen name) due to Amy's demanding "day job".
Name three things on your desk right now.
Coffee mug (a necessity), cell phone (a distraction), and a frame with a print of the first fan art someone ever made based on one of my books (a reminder).
What are you favorite types of stories to read?
Romances, especially ones with humor. I remember reading Beautiful Player at the hair salon and I literally laughed out loud. It was such an amazing feeling, which is why I couldn't have been happier when Library Journal used that exact phrase to describe Black Tie Optional.
Can you tell us about your upcoming book?
The second book of the Wild Wedding Series will feature Olivia's best friend Cassie as the female lead. All the characters from BTO will make appearances along with a few new ones as well. The first chapter is actually included at the end of book one, but here's a little teaser:

ICING ON THE CAKE
Cassandra Miller doesn’t have time for men. She’s far too busy preparing to open a cupcake shop with her silent partner and best friend, not to mention catering her brother’s wedding. And let’s face it, it’s not like Prince Charming is going to stroll into the bakery and sweep her off her feet.

Henry has been a Prince his entire life but for one wild wedding he wants to be nothing more than an “Average Joe”, or in this instance, “Average Hank”. But when a case of mistaken identity and a batch of burned cupcakes ends in a night of passion, Cassie and Hank must decide if theirs is a recipe for disaster or the makings of true romance.
