In A Little Spark by Amy K. McClung, meeting Jillian at his brother's wedding is a pleasant surprise for Sam, but the pair don't get off to the best start. However, Sam isn't about to let a little miscommunication stop him from pursuing a relationship with the woman that tempts him more than any woman ever has. But when something big happens that leaves Sam needing to find a way to prove to Jillian she deserves to be happy, will his efforts be for nothing or will the pair achieve their happy ever after?

What a fun, attention-grabbing read Ms. McClung has penned in this read, which had me hooked from the very beginning, as the hero is determined to show his brother a good time before he gets married but still be the responsible one that gets him home and ready for the big day. Will Sam be a good best man and manage to get his brother to his wedding on time? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time that had me smiling, as Sam doesn't make the best first impression and then when they meet again, he's determined to win Jillian over because there's something about her that he's intrigued by. Will Jillian give Sam a chance?

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories and everything this couple face on their journey to happy ever after including what happens to one of them in their career and whether the hero can win the heroine over. Moreover, the heroine is strong, brave, hard-working and I loved how much of a challenge she provides the hero. Then again, her previous relationship taught her to be extra cautious and I could understand why she gives the hero a hard time in the beginning, considering the first time they meet and he wasn't at his best. While the hero, he also has been through tough times with an ex that was a self-centered woman that didn't deserve him, but I liked that he was willing to give another woman a chance because Jillian is good for him. I also liked the hero's charm and how he proves to the heroine that she has nothing to be jealous of because she's the woman for him. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero was the close relationship he had with his brother and sister-in-law and how they offer advice that he needs when things get tough with Jillian.

Overall, Ms. McClung has delivered a superb read in this book where the chemistry and romance between this couple was delightful; and the ending had me loving the hero's words to convince Jillian that she deserves to be happy after what happens. I also liked the decision the heroine made when it came to her career, especially with the surprise she has for the hero. I would recommend A Little Spark by Amy K. McClung, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope or books by authors Stacy Borel, Kim Karr, Marie Harte and Marquita Valentine.

BLOG TOUR - REVIEW: TO SAVE A SAVAGE SCOT by TAMARA GILL

To Save a Savage Scot
Time-Traveler's Highland #2
By Tamara Gill
Releasing March 26th, 2018
Entangled Publishing

Kenzie Jacobs is fascinated by a portrait of the roguish Highlander, Black Ben, which hangs in her ancestral home. There’s a mystery surrounding his death, and Kenzie longs to solve it by traveling through time to 17th century Scotland—and perhaps meet the gorgeous laird who haunts her dreams.

Black Ben, Laird of Ross, suited his dark name more than ever since his wife died in childbirth. He has vowed never to marry again. But Kenzie is an intoxicating elixir and even more potent than whisky. As confusing and crazy as she may seem, he can’t get her out of his system. But there’s no way they can ever work, as she does not fit into his plans.

Fate has brought them together, and Ben can’t stop Kenzie from returning to her time, though he would do anything–except marry her–to keep her with him. Kenzie has a life to get back to but leaving her favorite, though infuriating, Highlander behind, might be the toughest thing she’ll ever have to do.

In To Save a Savage Scot (Time-Traveler's Highland #2) by Tamara Gill, fascinated by the mystery of the death of Black Ben, Kenzie Jacobs is determined to find the truth, even if it means traveling back in time to when he lived in 17th century Scotland. But as Kenzie and Ben get to know each other better, there's just one problem. Sooner or later, she'll be returning to her time. Will she be able to convince Ben to go with her, or will they lose their chance at happy ever after?

What an extremely engaging and fascinating read Ms. Gill has delivered in this second book of her Time-Traveler's Highland series where the fast-paced plot drew me in from the beginning and had me reading quickly, determined to discover whether the heroine would get the answers she wants; the main characters were compelling and had me intrigued by their back stories, especially Black Ben, as he's been through so much in losing his wife and not coping with her death; and the dialogue was absolutely riveting, as someone is determined to see that Ben and Kenzie have no future together. Will Ben and Kenzie be able to overcome the obstacles they face together including whether Kenzie will stay or return to her time and the trouble Ben faces that could cost him his life?

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories and the danger these two face because no way will Kenzie let the hero face it on his own. Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how she stood up to Ben's in-laws who are rude and nasty and don't deserve to have such a good man like Ben in their lives. I also liked how determined she was to help Ben, even though it's difficult for her to open up to him about the real reason why she's time-travelled. Will she ever confess why she's moved through time to 17th century Scotland? Yet, what I liked so much about the heroine was her determination to win Ben over, especially when she does something he may end up hating her for. While the hero, he's strong, brave and I liked how determined he was to protect Kenzie, especially since she's not used to the barbarity of the time and why people are so willing to hurt others. I also liked how loyal the hero was to his people and that he would do anything to keep them safe, even if it means putting his own life on the line. Will Ben be able to protect his people?

Overall, Ms. Gill has delivered a wonderful read in this book that I could not put down and where the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance was delightful and had me loving these two together; and the ending had me worried for the hero and heroine because of the trouble they face, but had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after because of how they overcome their biggest obstacle to be together. Will they stay in 17th century Scotland or will Ben go with Kenzie back to her time period? I would recommend To Save a Savage Scot by Tamara Gill, if you enjoy Time Travel Romance, the mysterious strangers trope, or time-traveling books by authors Angeline Fortin, Catherine Bybee, Nancy Scanlon and Sabrina York.

His contemplative gaze raked over her form, and she shivered. What was it about this man that made her react in such a way? For a start, he stank, seemed to be an alcoholic, and was nosy, to boot.

Dismissing her stupid reaction, Kenzie concentrated on rubbing the cloth over his temples and working her way down his neck. The scattering of hair peeking through the top of his shirt gave her pause, and she wondered if he was overly hairy or just a little as she preferred. No one wanted to sleep with a bear, after all.

“A relative of both of theirs, eh?” He groaned and rolled to his side, forcing her off the chair. “A bucket. Quickly, lass.”

“Oh my God, seriously?” Kenzie looked about the room, and spying a peat bucket beside the fire, she tipped the little bricks of peat onto the ground and raced back to his side.

Great heaving and the sound of a lot of whisky coming up filled the room for the next few minutes, along with a smell that Kenzie never wanted to experience again. Rinsing the cloth, she passed it to him when he seemed to be finished and watched as he wiped his mouth and chin. “You’re very pretty lass, and very similar to my Gwen.”

The word ‘my’ wasn’t lost on her, nor did she like hearing it. “Gwen isn’t yours, sir. And I don’t care if you find me pretty or I remind you of Gwen. You, sir, are a sickly drunk who doesn’t have any respect for his own wellbeing.”

It was his turn to look stunned. “Sickly drunk? I’ve been called a lot of things in my life, but those two terms have never been two of them. Perhaps you ought—”

Kenzie held up her hand. “I don’t want to ‘ought’ anything. All I wish is to get you better so you may leave and get on with ruining your own life, which, if your appearance here this evening is any indication, you’re quite on the road to doing. Laird indeed…”

I haven’t always been this bad…

Up until recently, I was the kind of girl who wore white cotton panties and bent at the knees rather than the waist.

Pomp and circumstance changed all that.

Jaxson Cassidy was my first taste of bad, and I liked it more than I should have. Just not in the way I was meant to. I couldn’t help myself though. I found him irresistible. That sexy grin, those skilled fingers, and that dirty, dirty mouth were a lethal combination.

I wasn’t supposed to want him. I wasn’t supposed to let him put his hands on me. I wasn’t supposed to do a lot of things…but I did.

He wants to keep me close.
I should push him away.

He says he can help me.
I’m not so sure.

For some reason, he thinks there’s good left in me.
What if he’s wrong?

Everyone knows a good boy can’t turn a bad girl around.
Everyone knows it’s always the other way.
Everyone…except him.

In Come a Little Closer by Kim Karr, Sadie Banks has always been a good girl, but when something happens and she needs money fast, she'll do anything to get it including stealing from someone. However, stealing from Jaxson Cassidy is a bad idea, especially when she steals his most prized equipment; equipment he needs for his career as a photographer. Yet, when Jaxson catches up with Sadie, he doesn't know whether he'll turn her in to the authorities or use what happened to his advantage. But once he makes a decision, Sadie knows she's lucky that Jaxson is the one she stole from, especially once Sadie discovers the lengths someone is willing to go to in order to see that she loses everything. Will Jaxson be able to help Sadie escape the clutches of a madman, or will they lose their shot at happy ever after?

Ms. Karr pens such attention-grabbing, spicy romances and this story was very entertaining due to the trouble Sadie is facing surrounding why someone is out to get her for things she did in the past. Will the truth come out before it's too late? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time where this story really takes off, as Sadie doesn't know whether she can go through with what she has planned.

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, the trouble the heroine is facing and the obstacles this couple face on their journey to happy ever after. Will Jaxson believe Sadie's story? Will Jaxson turn her in? Will the trouble Sadie is facing because someone is determined to make her pay for the past work out for the best? Will Jaxson be able to get to the bottom of the heroine's troubles before anything too terrible happens? Moreover, I really enjoyed both the main characters and I liked that Jaxson was willing to be her savior because she certainly needs one after everything she's been through before they meet.

With the main characters, Sadie is resilient, courageous and I liked how determined she was to make things right, even if it means making hard decisions that may put her life in danger. I also liked how determined she was to make things right with Jaxson because he doesn't deserve what she does to him. While the hero, he's confident, hard-working and I liked how determined he was to help the heroine because it's palpable she needs someone on her side. I also liked how protective the hero was of the heroine and that he would do anything to make certain her past doesn't come back bite her, especially once he discovers how much of a psychopath the person out to get Sadie is. Will he be able to protect her before anything too bad happens to her?

Overall, Ms. Karr has delivered another wonderful read in this book where emotions run high because Sadie does wrong by Jaxson and then tries to make things right; the chemistry between this couple was intense and just kept getting stronger; the romance was fan-your-face hot and had me loving how determined the hero is to take care of Sadie; and the ending had me worried for one of the main characters, but had me loving how things work out for these two. No way will Jaxson allow Sadie to get away from him, especially not after what happens. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up brilliantly, as the hero has wonderful and exciting news for the heroine. I would recommend Come a Little Closer by Kim Karr, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope, contemporary romance with a dash of suspense, or books by authors Melanie Harlow, Vi Keeland, Lauren Blakely and Tessa Bailey.

In Slater's Revenge (Shades of Leverage #1) by Claudia Shelton, OPAQUE agent Josh Slater hasn't seen Mackenzie 'Macki' Boudin in years, but when he's sent to protect her, he knows he has to face the past. However, he knows protecting her won't be easy, especially after the way he left her at a time when she needed him most. Still, he's determined to keep Coercien Ten from doing her any harm. Will Joshua be able to find a way to get Mackenzie to forgive him for what happened in the past, or will the secret he's keeping from her tear them apart for good and lose them their second chance at happy ever after?

What a thrilling and captivating tale Ms. Shelton weaves in this first book of her Shades of Leverage series, which encompasses the sexy protector and  enemy to lovers tropes; a wonderful combination of suspense and romance that had me reading quickly, determined to discover whether Josh would be able to win Macki back while keeping her safe; two main characters that are strong-willed and challenge each other, especially Macki because she knows Josh is keeping something from her; compelling dialogue that made this story a real page turner due to the main characters back stories and everything they go to on their journey to happy ever after; and secondary characters that kept me guessing as to who was a good guy and who was a bad guy. Will Josh be able to figure out who is on his side before it's too late?

Both the main characters were exceptional and I loved how what Josh is keeping from the heroine and the hero abandoning Macki in the past creates a lot of tension between them. I also loved every moment these two converse, as Macki is resilient, very independent and not one to be left behind when things happen that need to be investigated. Will Macki get her way? Furthermore, I liked how the heroine handled every new bit of information she receives about OPAQUE and how it's had a big impact on her life because of her family's association with the organisation. Can she handle the truth about OPAQUE, Coercion Ten and why she's become a target? Can she handle the news about her parents and why what happened to them did happen?

While the hero, he's very good at his job, which is proven by what he did on his last mission and how far he's willing to go in order to protect Macki. I also liked how confident he is when it comes to his skills as an agent and how protective he is of Macki, even though he knows he can't protect her forever from what he's hiding. Really, the truth must come out, even if she ends up hating him in the end. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is the way he opened up to the heroine because all their cards need to be put on the table and finally exposed if they're to get their happy ever after.

Overall, Ms. Shelton has delivered an incredible read in this book where the chemistry between Josh and Macki is heady and convincing; the romance shows how compatible and right these two are for each other exceptionally; and the ending had me on the edge-of-my-seat and a little in shock, as the bad guys are finally exposed and Macki and Josh finally face off against them. Will Josh be able to to keep Macki safe? Yet, what I liked most of all about the ending is how things work out for the hero and heroine, as they're meant to be together and this time they shouldn't let anything keep them apart, especially not once the real truth is exposed and absolves Josh of his guilt. I would recommend Slater's Revenge by Claudia Shelton, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the sexy protector trope, the enemy to lovers trope, or books by authors Rya Stone, Jenna Ryan, Laura Griffin and Kendra Elliott.

Another lull in the conversation. Silence that played in sharp contrast to the sharp beat on the street. (His boss) Drake was usually on and off the phone in a flash. Why was he dragging out the call? Macki…that's why. Drake had been responsible for her welfare for so long, he didn't know how to stop.

              "Anything else?" Josh asked.
"No, just… Keep your eyes out for her."

"Don't worry, I got this. No sign of her yet."

Drake sighed heavily. "Stay sharp. You may not recognize her in that lady-of-the-evening outfit and spikey white wig." The call ended.

Josh stopped cold in his steps. Stared at the crowd gathered at the far side of the intersection. The crowd parted just enough that he glimpsed what looked like yellow crime scene tape. EMTs. Cops. Detectives. Pink? Pink? He searched for any signs of pink, but the gawkers were packed so close together, he couldn't see past the perimeter.

Cold fear flashed through his body as the scene shot to his brain. Accident? Crime? Macki? Damn-it-to-hell, please don't let it be Macki. Not my Macki.

His insides pulsed with adrenalin as he slammed the phone in his pocket and headed toward the crowd. He wanted to run, to yell her name, but he had to keep his cover. His only sure ally in Riverfalls was his cover.

She'd promised to stay in the car. To wait for him. He'd trusted her word. Should have known she wouldn't follow his instructions.

"Get out of my way." Pushing through the congregating people, he struggled to get to the front of the line. People stepped aside and when they didn't, he elbowed them out of his path. All he cared about was getting to the edge of the crime scene tape.

A whisper of jasmine and vanilla triggered his senses, pulling him to another time and place.

Macki? He stopped. Turned to his left, scanning the people close by. She wasn't there.  Had he only imagined the fragrance from years ago? Completely lost his mind before he even laid eyes on her? Not likely. He was a stronger man than that. Inhaling through his nose, he homed in on the scent's origin.
Close…she was close…closer than—

"Excuse me." A woman in pink, with spiky blond hair, seemed to deliberately shoulder bump his arm as she brushed past and kept on walking.

His gaze gave her a quick up and down as recognition shot to his gut and grabbed hold like a vise, twisting and turning 'til his brain caught up with his body. His head zeroed in on the tight little skirt being worked with a boatload of finesse.

He'd found Macki. And, from the view of her backside as she pushed through the crowd, his Macki had grown up, and then some. He silently groaned. All signs pointed to the fact, his assignment had just got harder. Harder than hell.

Bracing against the side of the tub, he eased his gun from the back of his jeans and laid it on the floor beside him as he sat down. Something about the ease with which he did it seemed as natural to him as breathing.

He leaned back against the towel cabinet and closed his eyes, sighing long and easy as if he were a man home from a long day at work. "This is nice."
