Ultra wealthy and super powerful, the King family is like royalty in Texas. But who will keep the throne? New York Times bestselling author Katee Robert introduces a red-hot new series.

The Kings #1

Forever

THE MAN SHE HATES TO LOVE

Beckett King just inherited his father's fortune, his company-and all his enemies. If he's going to stay on top, he needs someone he can trust beside him. And though they've been rivals for years, there's no one he trusts more than Samara Mallick.

The rebel. That's how Samara has always thought of Beckett. And he's absolutely living up to his unpredictable ways when he strides into her office and asks for help. She can't help wondering if it's a legit request or just a ploy to get her into bed. Not that she'd mind either one. After all, she likes to live on the edge too.

But soon the threats to the King empire are mounting, and the two find family secrets darker than they ever imagined and dangerous enough to get them both killed.

In The Last King (The Kings #1) by Katee Robert, Beckett King should be able to trust his family, but for years there's been a family feud. So, when his father dies and Beckett inherits the family company, he knows he's going to have to watch his back. However, there may be someone he can trust, even though they've been rivals for years, and that's Samara Mallick. Will Samara be willing to help him or will they lose their chance at happy ever after because the King family secrets put them in more danger than they could have ever possibly imagined?

Ms. Robert never fails to impress me with her writing and this first book of her Kings series is absolutely brilliant and completely hot right from the prologue, as Beckett is full of charm and Samara is hopeless in resisting him. However, in saying that, she knows better than to trust him because their rivals. Will she begin to realize that her loyalty lies with a woman that will do anything to get what she wants, even if it means breaking the law?

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, especially that of the hero because of the family feud that puts him at odds with the rest of the King family. Luckily though, he has one person on his side, especially when Samara begins to realize how ruthless her boss is and how far the woman is willing to go to get what she wants. Will Samara go along with the woman's plans when it comes to the contract she wants the heroine to secure? Furthermore, both the main characters are compelling and I loved the interactions between them, as she doesn't want to end up like her mother in falling for a rich man and then things don't work out. Will things work out for Beckett and Samara?

With the main characters, I absolutely loved Beckett. He's confident, faces quite the challenge in winning over the heroine, and I liked that he didn't back down when things became more and more dangerous for him. I also liked how protective Beckett was of the heroine, as she may become a target someone can use against him because she's come important to him. While the heroine, she's strong, independent, smart and I liked that she gave the hero a chance, despite her fears of abandonment. I also liked that the heroine was just as protective of Beckett as he was of her, especially when she realizes how much she has to lose.

Overall, Ms. Robert has delivered a wonderful read in this book, which encompasses the perfect combination of steamy romance and intense suspense that had me on the edge-of-my-seat with every bit of danger this couple face, even though Beckett seems to be the target. Yet, what I liked most of all about the ending of this story is the way things worked out for the best for Beckett and Samara and that they were willing to fight for their future. I would recommend The Last King by Katee Robert, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Avery Flynn, Nina Croft, Kristen Proby and Tessa Bailey.

Heaven was Samara in a little green dress.

Beckett watched her walk across the lobby, her mile-long legs eating up the distance with ease. That glimpse of wildness she’d given him last night was in full effect today, her hair a mass of black waves that seemed to curl and snap around her shoulders with each step. Her dress fitted her like a second skin, sloping down over her breasts, her stomach, to her hips and thighs.

But it was her dark eyes that drew and held him. Anger and desire and something like guilt lingered there, and she held his gaze as she stopped in front of him. “Do I meet your expectation?”

“You’re beautiful.”

She arched a single eyebrow. “I know.”

That surprised a laugh out of him. Beckett turned to the elevator bank and offered his elbow. The gentlemanly move was over-the-top for their current circumstances, but he couldn’t be this close to her without touching her. Kissing her now, here, was a terrible damn idea, so he’d settle for the small touch. “No false modesty. I like that.”

“I think we’ve established that I don’t operate based on what you like.” Despite her words, amusement pulled at the edges of her lips, and she set her hand carefully on his forearm. “Every time I think I have your number down, you surprise me. Most guys get pissy pants if a woman doesn’t fall at their feet when they call her beautiful.”

“I’m not most guys.” He waited for the elevator door to open and led her onto it. “You can’t fit me into a box and write me off, Samara.”

“I’m beginning to see that.” She shook her head, her hair brushing against his shoulder. “My life would be a whole lot easier if I could.”

He couldn’t argue that, so he didn’t bother. Beckett took them up to the executive level. He noted the way she studied everything, obviously filing away every bit of information she could lay her eyes on. “What does Lydia pay you these days?”

She dropped her arm and stepped back. “Oh no. I don’t think so.” She pointed at him. “We went over this last night. I’m not for sale.”

“It’s an innocent question.”

“It is most definitely not an innocent question.” She looked like she wanted to take off her shoe and throw it at his head. “I don’t care what issue you and your aunt have. I’m not part of it. You don’t get to use me as leverage. I’m not a pawn for either of you to sacrifice in this pissing match you have going on.”

Shame tried to take hold, but he wouldn’t let it. Samara knew the game, no matter how much it apparently offended her. “I’m the bad guy for trying to offer you a job, but I’m sure you agreed to show up here solely out of the goodness of your heart.” He pretended to think about it. “Wait, no you didn’t—which you already admitted. You’re here because Lydia wants to do whatever it takes to sink Morningstar. Full stop.” He motioned at the offices behind him. “Wake up, Samara. I’m only playing the game she made the rules for.”

She took in the empty COO office on the other side of the glass wall. “She poached your employees.”

“Convenient timing, don’t you think?”

“You’re not still harping on that paranoid talk about Lydia meeting Nathaniel.” Samara hesitated and then moved to stand in front of him. She pressed her lips together and then very gently said, “Do you think maybe it’s a good idea for you to talk to someone?”

Beckett jerked back. “What?”

There was nothing but sympathy in her dark eyes. “I’m serious, Beckett. I’ve known you a long time, at least by reputation, and this delusion you have going isn’t like you. Is it possible that Nathaniel’s death is hitting you harder than you realize? That you’re fixating on Lydia instead of your own grief because it’s easier to deal with an enemy than face the fact you can never make things right with your father?”

Every word flayed him, cutting to the quick. Beckett gritted his teeth against the need to tell Samara that she was the one who wasn’t thinking clearly. To yell. To expel some of the ugliness that had been brewing in him for a very, very long time. “I didn’t call you here to offer you a job, and I sure as hell don’t need a shrink.”

She stood her ground as he advanced. Her heels put them at the same height and she still managed to look down her nose at him. “Then why did you call me here?”

Because I can’t spend another moment alone without going out of my mind.

He didn’t say it. To admit how long it had been since he’d felt a connection with another person was to hand Samara—Lydia—a loaded gun and invite her to point it directly at him. He didn’t answer her verbally at all. Beckett cupped her waist and slowly pulled her against him, giving her plenty of time to register his intentions.

“Beckett.” Despair colored her tone and she gave a desperate laugh. “What are we doing?”

“I don’t know.” Using a hand on the small of her back, he pressed her firmly against him. “I don’t want to stop.”

Samara hesitated, but finally placed her hands gingerly against his chest. He waited, letting her decide. Yes or no. Push or pull. Stay or go. She hitched a breath. “I don’t want to stop, either.”

REVIEW: DARK JUSTICE - HUNT by JENNA RYAN

Dark Justice: Hunt
Dark Justice #2
By Jenna Ryan
Releasing March 26th, 2018
Entangled Publishing

Dr. Melia Rose and ex-Marine Johnny Hunt had it all. Until one night in Atlantic City changed everything. She’s left shocked, confused, and alone, unable to come to terms with what happened.

Hell, she doesn’t even know what happened; she just knows her life has taken a one-eighty.

Now, Melia’s started over—again—in her secluded, boring life in the swamps of Florida. The people are great, she has a housekeeper who may or may not be Bette Davis reincarnated, and it’s quiet. But when her ex-husband shows up, dropping a bomb of epic proportions, her new life is a whole lot more dangerous than she could have ever imagined.

There’s nothing Johnny wants more than to undo the damage from the past. The secrets he’s been carrying have been eating away at him, but protecting Melia was more important than anything else. Even his own life. He managed to save her last time, but the danger is close—too close. In order to save her once more from his demons, Johnny will have to come clean…about everything.

In Dark Justice: Hunt (Dark Justice #2) by Jenna Ryan, ex-Marine Johnny Hunt did what he thought best to keep his wife safe, but now it seems his past is coming back to haunt him, and again he has to do everything in his power to protect her. However, keeping his secret is no longer an option and when Melia learns the truth, will she ever be able to trust Johnny again or will their second chance at happy ever after never happen?

What an enthralling, fast-paced, wild ride Ms. Ryan takes readers on in this second book of her Dark Justice series where the storyline was filled with suspenseful moments and had me worried for Johnny and Melia; the main characters had me loving their past history and their growing relationship on their way to hopefully getting a second chance at forever; and the dialogue was compelling, as it wasn't only told from the hero and heroine's points-of-view, but also the bad guys. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time after things went awry between them in the past and I could understand Melia's reaction, especially once she discovers what Johnny did to keep her safe. Will Melia allow Johnny back into her life?

Both the main characters are compelling and I loved their history and the fight Johnny has on his hands to keep Melia safe and win her back. Moreover, the heroine is resiient, courageous and I liked her friendship with her housekeeper, as the woman is protective of Melia and loves to tease. I also loved the challenge the heroine provided the hero because it's palpable she wants nothing to do with him, especially once she learns of what Johnny did in the past. And really, who could blame Melia if she ended up loathing the hero for what he did? Then again, she doesn't really have a choice but to have Johnny shadowing her every move. While the hero, he's confident in his skills to keep the heroine safe and I liked all the obstacles this pair had to overcome to be together including whether Melia can forgive Johnny and whether the hero can take down those responsible for coming after them. Will Johnny be able to eliminate the threats?

Overall, Ms. Ryan has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was strong, if not stronger than it was in the past; the romance was wonderful; and the ending had me on the edge-of-my-seat with worry for the main characters, but had me liking how everything worked out for the best for the pair. I would recommend Dark Justice: Hunt by Jenna Ryan, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the second chance romance trope, or books by authors Rya Stone, Claudia Shelton, Sheryl Nantus and Pamela Clare.

In The World's Worst Boyfriend (The Bad Boyfriend #1) by Erika Kelly, Fin Bowie is determined to win the love of his life back, but he knows that isn't going to be easy, especially after what he did to Calliope 'Callie' Bell. However, when he discovers he's got the whole summer to win her back before she returns to New York, Fin knows he's going to have to do everything in his power to earn Callie's forgiveness. Will Fin be able to convince Callie to give him a second chance, or will her fear of the past repeating itself keep them apart?

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Kelly and I've got to say that this story does not disappoint. It was filled with wonderful characters, compelling dialogue and was a book that had me hooked from the very beginning, as Fin is determined to get back home to a friend's wedding, but it seems nothing can go right for him. Will he manage to make it home? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time where things really get interesting, as the hero is willing to use everything in his arsenal, especially when it comes to reminding the heroine of their shared past.

As for the dialogue, it was highly enjoyable and had me loving the hero so much, as he does everything he can to earn the heroine's forgiveness, which is not easy. It's palpable how much he cares about his family and how he wishes he could earn their respect, but Callie always seems to be the one he disappoints by proving she's not as important to him as his brothers. Will Fin finally prove to Callie that she's his number one priority? Moreover, the hero is confident, driven to make his brothers see him as their equal instead of always feeling left out, and I liked how determined he was to win Callie back. However, I couldn't help but sympathize with him when it came to the whole World's Worst Boyfriend trend and how it was making things a tad difficult for him. While the heroine, she's smart; determined to fight for her career path when something happens that could alter her course; and I liked that she was willing to forgive the hero, even though it's hard for her because she's always felt like she comes second to him. I also liked how she begins to mend her relationship with her family, as she'd distanced herself from them and missed out on so much.

Overall, Ms. Kelly has delivered a delightful  read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was powerful; the romance delightful and made me glad that the hero didn't give up his pursuit of Callie, despite her being adamant they'll never again be more than friends; and the ending had me smiling, as both realize their relationship is meant to be and do everything they can to fight for their future together. However, it was the final chapter that wrapped this story up nicely and has me looking forward to the next book of this series, especially because I want to know the answer to the burning question right at the end. I would recommend The World's Worst Boyfriend by Erika Kelly, if you enjoy second chance romances or books by authors Melanie Harlow, R.S Grey, Samantha Towle and Sarina Bowen.

In Peggy Jaeger’s delectable series, delicious food is just an appetizer for life’s main course: the kind of love that feeds your soul.

With three successful TV series under her belt, including her cousin Kandy’s, executive producer Stacy Peters is ready to helm her own show. But to make that happen, she has to do her network boss one favor first—spend two months on a ranch in Montana wrangling the notoriously difficult director of Beef Battles. Apparently, he eats producers for breakfast. Yet all Stacy can think when she meets the lean, rugged man is how hungry he makes her . . .

Dominic Stamp—Nikko to his very few friends—has had enough interference from TV newbies. And when Stacy climbs out of the car in Montana, he’s not convinced she’s even old enough to drive, much less produce his show. But he can’t deny that the long-legged blonde with the stubborn will and the dazzling smile whets his appetite. And as Stacy proves her talent with the crew and the budget alike, Nikko vows to prove to her that love is on the menu for both of them . . .

In Can't Stand the Heat (Will Cook for Love #3) by Peggy Jaeger, executive producer Stacy Peters is a very determined woman. All she's ever wanted is to helm her own show and now she's finally going to get her chance. Yet, first she has to survive the favor her boss asks of her. Stacy knows she has her work cut out for her, especially when she'll be working alongside Dominic 'Nikko' Stamp -- the director a lot of people find difficult to work with -- for two months on Beef Battles. Will Stacy discover that working with Nikko is the best thing to happen to her, or will their shot at happy ever after never happen?

If you've never read a book by Ms. Jaeger before, then you're missing out on some of the best writing I've ever had the pleasure of reading, especially since her stories feature strong heroines that aren't afraid to challenge the hero and I've got to say that this third book of her Will Cook for Love series is highly entertaining, fast-paced and a read that had me hooked from the very beginning because of Stacy's words. Is her newest assignment really going to be a trip to hell? Is she going to be able to handle working with a notoriously difficult director? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine meet that had me smiling for the first time in this book, as Stacy isn't easy to get rid like the two previous producers. Will she win Nikko over sooner rather than later? Finding out the answer to that question had me reading quickly, determined to discover when Nikko will see that Stacy is an asset because she's good at what she does.

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, as both Nikko and Stacy have been through so much in their pasts. Nikko has struggled to help his daughter through her grief concerning her mother's death and I liked that he gave Stacy a chance to help his daughter Melora, which is proven by everything Stacy does for the teenage girl because the heroine has witnessed someone else in her life dealing with Melora's situation. Moreover, both the main characters are amazing and I loved every moment they conversed, as Stacy works her magic on Nikko time and time again and handles his explosive temper without losing her own, which is quite impressive since there are times where things he blames her for aren't her fault.

As for the heroine, she is resilient, exceptional at her job and I liked how she handled Nikko and didn't need him to come to her rescue with any of the problems she dealt with on set including an annoying and high-maintenance judge that wants everything her way. Will Stacy put the woman judge in her place? While the hero, he's hard-working, doesn't take kindly to people being unprofessional on the job, and I liked the close relationship he has with his daughter, even though Melora is a handful at times and full of attitude. I also liked how determined the hero was to win over the heroine once he realizes that he can't deny his feelings for her anymore.

Overall, Ms. Jaeger has delivered an absolutely captivating read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was off-the-charts; the romance was full of exquisite heat and passion that showed how good these two are together and for each other; and the ending had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after because they're meant to be no matter what happens to cause their relationship to go awry. Will Nikko be able to make things right? Furthermore, it was the final chapter of this book that wrapped this story up brilliantly, as Nikko and Stacy are very happy together and I liked how happy the hero's daughter is for them. Then again, Stacy is a good influence on Melora. I would recommend Can't Stand the Heat by Peggy Jaeger, if you enjoy workplace romances, boss-employee romances, or books by authors Lauren Layne, Miranda Liasson, Sarah Ballance and Jeannie Moon.

REVIEW: DESIRED by KELLY ELLIOTT

Desired
Wanted #6
By Kelly Elliott
Releasing March 27th, 2018
Self-Published

I thought all I wanted in my life was to succeed at football and one day take over my grandfather’s ranch. Nothing else mattered but those two things.

Why suddenly did she appear every single night in my dreams? The faceless woman who had me waking up each morning soaked in sweat with my heart nearly pounding right out of my chest.

Who was she?

Where was she?

And why was she the one thing I desired more than anything?

BUY LINK:  Amazon

In Desired (Wanted #6) by Kelly Elliott, all Gunner has ever wanted to do is take over his grandfather's ranch once he graduates from college, but it seems something else is becoming more important to him and that is the faceless woman he keeps dreaming about every night. Not knowing who she is has been keeping him up at night, but when he discovers who his mystery woman is, will he fight for his chance with her?

With this book being a prequel for Ms. Elliott's Wanted series, it's a fantastic introduction into some of the incredible characters that are in the series and I've got to say I found the pages really flew by and I was hooked from the very beginning. Since this story is not only told from Gunner's point of view, but also his two friends -- Josh and Jefferson, as each man finds it becoming harder and harder not to want to settle down with one. However, it's not as easy as it seems for Josh who it's palpable has commitment issues or Jefferson who is in love with his sister's best friend but fights his feelings. Will Jefferson ever say the right thing to win the girl? Will Gunner ever meet his Ms. Right, especially when he's been dreaming about her, but doesn't actually know who she is?

As for the dialogue, it was compelling and I loved the friendship between Josh, Jefferson and Gunner, as they aren't afraid to offer each other advice or tell each other when they've messed up. Moreover, it was easy to like each of the men, as Josh is the cocky and confident one that can charm any woman; while Jefferson is the hot-tempered, protective one that loves to rile his sister's best friend; whereas Gunner is the level-headed one that isn't afraid to tell it like it is, especially when something annoys him like say a best friend that continues to do wrong by the girl he likes. Yet, it wasn't just the three men I liked. There was also the women that come into their lives or are already in their lives and make things interesting.

Overall, Ms. Elliott has penned a really good read in this book, which is a good place to start if you haven't read the Wanted series yet, even though it's book six of the series. As for the way this story ended, it will have readers wanting to dive into this author's Wanted series to see if Gunner, Jefferson and Josh do each get their happy ever after. I would recommend Desired by Kelly Elliott, if you enjoy books by authors Sandi Lynn, Kaylee Ryan, Stacy Borel and Katy Evans.
