In Coming Home to Crimson (Crimson, Colorado #10) by Michelle Major, Sienna Pierce has nowhere else to turn except to her estranged family after she finds her boyfriend in bed with another woman. Heading to Crimson is a good idea in theory, but actually having to talk to her brother and father; two people she hasn't seen in years isn't easy. However, the longer she stays in Crimson, the more she finds herself wanting to stay, as she and the town sheriff grow closer and closer. Will Sienna finally get her chance at happy ever after with her Mr. Right or will she get her heart broken for a second time?

What a delightful and captivating read Ms. Major has delivered in this book, which took me on an emotional rollercoaster because of the hard time the heroine has in being around her brother and father at first; two people that she hasn't had anything to do with in years. Will she get along with them? As for the way this story started, it had me sympathizing with the heroine, as she was hoping things with her boyfriend would have turned out a lot different than they did. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time where things really get interesting, as the heroine doesn't need anything more going wrong in her life than it already has, and yet, it seems nothing can go right. At least not for her first day back in Crimson.

With the heroine, she's resilient, courageous and I liked how she handled everything she goes through, even though it isn't easy for her because family secrets could destroy the relationship she has with any one of them. I also liked the tight friendship she forms with Paige, which is proven by what Paige does when it comes to the hero causing their relationship to go awry and making sure he's going to fix things. However, what I liked most of all about the heroine was the challenge she provided the hero. While the hero, he's confident, charming, a good cop and I liked how determined he was to prove to the heroine that he's on her side. Will the heroine be able to put her trust in the hero? I also liked how he handles everything he goes through, especially when it comes to how things stand between he and his twin. Will the hero be able to let go of the past in order to have a good relationship with his brother again?

Overall, Ms. Major has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was powerful; the romance delightful, as the heroine needs someone like the hero in her life; and the ending had me loving what's happening to the hero before he makes thing right with Sienna. The moment had me laughing, especially since Sienna has made such a good friend in Paige. Moreover, I loved how things worked out for the best for this pair, as these two are so good together. I would recommend Coming Home to Crimson by Michelle Major, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope, the brother's best friend trope or books by authors Teri Wilson, Rochelle Alers, Lynne Marshall and Nancy Robards Thompson.

“I’m sorry, officer,” she said automatically, fanning her hand in front of her face. “I was having a bit of trouble taking off my jacket around the seatbelt. I’ll be more careful.”

“License and registration, ma’am.”

The rumbly voice gave her pause and she sat back, glancing up into the face of a man who could have been the direct descendent of some Wild West lawman. The firm set of his jaw and rugged good looks seemed like a throw back to the era of John Wayne, although he wore a modern law enforcement uniform of a beige button down and black tie, khaki pants and a gun clearly tucked into the holster at his waist.

The button clipped above his shirt pocket read ‘sheriff’. Okay then, the real deal.
And not feeling all that friendly if the tight line of his mouth was any indication. She couldn’t see his eyes behind the mirrored aviator sunglasses but imagined he was glaring at her.

“Of course,” she said and pulled her wallet out of the Louis Vuitton purse on the passenger seat.

“You know texting and driving is against the law,” he said as she handed him her driver’s license.

“I was having some sort of bizarre hot flash,” she blurted. “Not texting.” Even now she could feel the silk tank top clinging to her skin. “Anger induced, not hormonal,” she felt compelled to add, her cheeks flaming.

One thick brow lifted above the frame of his sunglasses, and Sienna resisted the urge to fidget.

“You were also driving twenty miles above the speed limit.”

“I certainly was not.” Sienna rolled her eyes. “I’d never drive that fast.”

“Ma’am—”

She pointed a finger at him. “I don’t like your tone when you call me ma’am.”

“I clocked you at eighty-five and it’s a sixty-five mile an hour zone that drops to forty-five as you come into town.” He paused then added, “Ma’am.”

Sparks raced across Sienna’s skin. Somehow his tone had gone from patronizing to sexy-as-hell in one word. She had no idea what had possessed her to try to goad this small-town sheriff into a reaction, but her body’s response to him was totally unexpected.

And bothersome.

“I’m sorry,” she repeated. “This isn’t my car so I’m not used to how it drives.” The truth was she’d been too preoccupied with mentally trash talking her cheating ex-boyfriend to realize she was driving recklessly. Kevin’s fault as well.

“Who does the car belong to?”

“I don’t know.” She flipped open the glove compartment. “I assume it’s a rental. I took it from my ex-boyfriend.”

The sheriff leaned forward, his hands resting above the driver’s side window. The fabric of his shirt pulled tight across his arms, revealing the outline of corded muscles. “As in you stole it?”

“No,” she answered immediately. “I…it wasn’t quite like that.” She closed her eyes and drew in a breath. In fact, it was exactly like that.

She’d taken a private shuttle from the Aspen airport to the upscale hotel where Kevin had made a reservation. She’d originally been scheduled to come on this trip with him, three days in the mountains of Colorado with a few meetings thrown in to make it a legitimate business expense. Sienna hadn’t been back to Colorado in almost two decades, and to make a trip so soon after her estranged brother’s visit to Chicago last year…well, it had been too much to even consider.

Yet in the end she couldn’t stay away. Kevin had acted so disappointed she wasn’t coming, dropping subtle hints that he’d planned to pop the question in Aspen. So she’d taken a red-eye into Denver then a commuter plane to Aspen, thinking how fun it would be to surprise him.

She’d surprised him all right, in bed with another woman.

Could it get more cliche than that? Her life had been reduced to a cliche.

“How about we start with the registration?” the sheriff asked, his voice gentling as if somehow he could sense what a mess she was on the inside.

That infuriated her even more. Sienna didn’t do vulnerable. People around her saw what she wanted them to see, and the thought that this mountain-town Mayberry lawman could see beyond her mask made her want to lash out at someone. Anyone. Sheriff Hot Pants, for one.

She dipped her chin and looked up at him through her lashes, flashing a small, knowing smile. “How about I write a healthy size check to the police foundation or your favorite charity…” She winked. “Or you for that matter and we both go on our merry way?”

“Are you offering me a bribe?”

She widened her smile. “Call it an incentive.”

The sheriff took off his sunglasses, shoving them into his front shirt pocket. His eyes were brown, the color of warm honey, but his gaze was frigid. “How’s the thought of being arrested as an incentive for you to hand me the registration?”
He smiled as he asked the question. His full lips revealed a set of perfectly straight teeth in a way that made him look like some sort of predator. “Or perhaps you’d like to step out of the car and I’ll handcuff you? Another viable option, ma’am.”

Self-Published

What happens when a fake relationship turns into a real kind of love?

As an audiobook narrator, Clementine Cox has no trouble mastering the voices of space aliens, elven warriors, or even demon-possessed cats. But the moment she tries her hand at an erotic romance, she’s stumped. With her deadline looming, she books a week at a secluded cabin to restore her inner muse, telling her loving-but-overbearing family it’s a romantic getaway with her not-so-existent new boyfriend to keep them from worrying. She never expects them to invite themselves along to meet the new guy. Now, she has less than twenty-four hours to find a pretend boyfriend in order to save her job and, potentially, her sanity.

Workaholic Jake Donovan isn’t interested in a real relationship. After a broken engagement, all he wants to do is focus on keeping his brewpub, the Holy Grale, afloat. But when he finds out his favorite customer is in need of a fake boyfriend, and his business partners insist he take a much overdue vacation, he has no choice but to help Clem out. All he has to do is enjoy the sunshine, play nice with her family, and keep his hands to himself for the week.

But Jake’s not prepared to like waking up next to Clem every morning as much as he does. Or to feel so welcome by her quirky family. And as the line between real and fake starts to blur, he realizes one week might never be enough.

In Real Love of Love (Books & Brews #1) by Sara Rider, Clementine Cox has a rather overbearing family. Still, she loves them, but when they're constantly trying to set her up with guys, she decides to share that she already has a boyfriend and that they're going on a romantic getaway. But when her family invite themselves along on the trip where she was hoping to relax and take a break from them, she knows she's in trouble unless she can find a man willing to be her fake boyfriend. Luckily, Jake Donovan comes to her rescue. Will she and Jake be able to pull off that they're happy and in love or will her family discover the truth before they have a chance to turn a relationship that starts out fake into something real?

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Rider, but it won't be my last. Everything about this book -- the incredible main characters, the fast-paced and entertaining plot and the riveting dialogue -- made this story an absolute page turner and before I knew it I was at the end of the book. The way this story started drew me in immediately, as the heroine hasn't had the easiest of times with what happened to her. However, she's coping the best she knows how and being around Jake makes her feel safe after what she's been through.

As for the dialogue, it was a wonderful combination of intense moments due to the main characters back stories and playful banter that had me loving the growing relationship between Jake and Clementine. She's shy and loves her privacy, but when she's around Jake she's different. He's someone she can talk to easily because he's not overbearing and knows how to respect her personal boundaries unlike her family who are constantly all up in her business and love to interfere. Still, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how determined she was to show her family that they don't need to worry about her. I also liked the moments when she stands up for herself, which is proven in the moments where her family need to remember that her life is for her to decide what she wants out of it and not what they want for her. Why do they think she needs a man in her life? Why are they concerned that she quite her career to do something that sounds interesting and is something she loves?

While the hero, he's had it tough with how things are between him and his parents. How could they take his ex-fiancé's side over their own son when the pair decided to go their separate ways? Luckily though, Clementine's family show him what it's like to be a part of a family, even though they can be a bit much at times with always wanting to do things as a family instead of having some time to themselves. However, in saying that, I liked that Jake took everything they throw at him well and with plenty of confidence and courage, especially since with Clementine being the daughter of a military man Jake has to prove that he's good enough for her and can take care of her.

Overall, Ms. Rider has delivered a fantastic and captivating read in this first book of her Books and Brews series where the chemistry between this couple was off-the-charts; the sizzling romance shows how right these two are for each other; the secondary characters were fun, especially the heroine's grandmother with some of the things she says to Jake; and the ending had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after, especially with the way Jake makes things right with the heroine after their relationship goes awry. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly, as both Jake and Clementine are good at keeping secrets. But Jake's secret is the best of all because Clementine is the best thing that's ever happened to him and he's not afraid to tell and show her how he feels. I would recommend Real Kind of Love by Sara Rider, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope, the fake relationship trope or books by authors Talia Hibbert, Jackie Lau, Tamsen Parker and Penny Reid.

With a deep breath, she opened her eyes to see Jake standing in front of her with his arms crossed. She swallowed the bile rising in her throat, reminding herself that if mortification could actually kill, she’d have been a pile of ashes by now.

“Tomorrow?”

“Thanks for playing along. For the record, you die of Ebola tonight. Or dysentery. Whichever one works faster.”

“Clem.” He tilted his head toward her, voice deepening to a low growl. “Why do your sisters think we’re dating?”

“I kind of told them I was going on a romantic getaway this week so they wouldn’t tag along on my vacation. Except instead of giving me space, they booked the cabin right next door and now I need you to use that hammer to build me a tiny little coffin while I curl up and die.”

“Wait a second,” Julia said from the dining room doorway with Eli standing next to her, grinning. “You lied to your family about having a boyfriend and now they think Jake is coming with you on vacation tomorrow?”

“Of course you and Eli overheard,” she mumbled. “I know it was a terrible idea but—”

“It’s a great idea!”

Clem wiped her clammy palms against the ugly pair of basketball shorts she was still wearing and tried to fathom the reason for Julia’s wide grin. “Sure, if you think watching me dig myself into a deep hole with no escape is fun.”

“You don’t need an escape. You need Jake.”

“What?” Her and Jake’s gazes met like a head-on collision.

Eli rubbed his palms together. “I don’t know what devious idea is churning in your brain, Sis, but I have a feeling it’s going to be good.”

“It’s simple. I need Jake to get out of my hair for the next week before he micromanages the wedding I’ve been planning to death, and you need a fake boyfriend. It’s perfect.”

It would be perfect, the devil on Clem’s shoulder whispered. Her family was so desperate to see her in a relationship, they’d probably actually give her some space this week. Maybe even enough that she could focus on the recording she needed to turn over to the publisher two weeks from now.

But it was a ridiculous idea. There was no way Jake would go for it. He had a business. A life. A fiancée. Crap. “You can’t be serious?”

“Sorry, man,” Eli said, raising his palms. “My vote’s with Julia. We outnumber you.”

Jake’s jaw clenched so hard, Clem could see the pulse point ticking in his neck. Her heart thumped against her chest as she waited for him to laugh at her. Or shake his head in disgust. Because there was no way he would actually go through with this.

She braced herself for rejection as he turned toward her, expression grim. “I’m game if you are.”

Holy shit.

She peeked a glance up at him, catching mostly only a broad shoulder because of his height. His long arms swung at his sides and his posture stern as he stared at the romantic beach scene in front of them.

They were about thirty feet from the other guests when Wes slipped his hand into hers.

She stiffened on contact and her brain shut down.

Low, so only she could hear, he said, "We have to sell it, remember?"

She nodded, not trusting herself to say anything while her heart did backhand springs in her rib cage. Holy crap. She was totally holding Wes Stevenson’s hand.

And she totally sounded like a teenybopper thinking that.
Be cool, Tee. Be cool.

It was going to be tough though since her version of cool had never been anything close to his. Or anyone else's for that matter.

Standing up straighter, she closed her hand around his, taking in the feel of skin against skin. The closer they got to the already filled area, the more erratic her heartbeat became. She was going to face Juliet, her family, and friends. And they were all going to chastise Teegan for bringing Wes.

Damn. She wished she'd thought about that before this moment. She could've feigned sickness for the entire weekend. What was going around right now? Yellow fever? Malaria? She'd even take a good case of salmonella. Anything to get her out of seeing the judgment in everyone's eyes. The same judgment she saw at every other Delta Gam wedding she'd attended.

With a date, without a date...it didn't matter. It followed Teegan anyway.

The man in question didn't seem bothered by their impending fate. He stood tall and wore a confident smile. Zero nerves radiated off him.

The Ice Box, they'd called him on the football field. Because he was always cool under pressure. Man, what she wouldn't give to have some of that superpower right now.

He squeezed her hand, which made her look up at him. He lifted his chin, gesturing in front of them. She looked toward a receiving line that included the bride and groom.

Juliet and the man she'd left Wes for.

Excellent. Teegan couldn't wait to greet them both on this glorious, fantastic evening.

Why, oh why, had she agreed to this? It would’ve been better not to attend at all, rather than bring Juliet’s ex to Juliet’s wedding.

Oh, God. Her heart was beating at an unhealthy rate. She might faint.

Hey, that wasn’t a bad idea. If she fainted—

The hand attached to hers tightened.

Wes. She was doing this for Wes. Just think about that. This had to be a million times worse for him.

In His Outback Temptation (Prickle Creek #4) by Annie Seaton, Sebastian Richards has traveled the world in his career as a freelance photographer. However, now he's returning home to Prickle Creek as promised to help out on the family farm. Luckily, he runs into Isabella Romano who needs his help to escape an uncomfortable situation. Yet, she's only in town for six weeks and Sebastian is planning to stay. Will Sebastian be able to convince Isabella that they're good together or will they let their chance at happy ever after slip away?

I have really enjoyed the other books of this series and have been looking forward to Sebastian's story and I've got to say that Ms. Seaton does not disappoint. Really, right from the beginning, I was hooked because I couldn't help but sympathize with the hero, as his career is important to him and going home is something he isn't looking forward to because he's never felt like he fits in at the farm, even though he has a really close relationship with his cousins. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine meet that had me smiling, as the heroine desperately needs him. Why can't some men take a hint?

With the dialogue, it was riveting and had me loving the growing relationship between this couple, as they have so many obstacles to overcome to be together. Will the heroine give up her dreams to be with Sebastian? Will Sebastian go back on his promise to stay at Prickle Creek? Moreover, I really liked both the main characters, as the heroine has done everything she can to achieve her dreams, which is proven by what she's accomplished. I also liked her independence and how resilient she is when it comes to getting her dad to stop being so stubborn. Will she convince her dad to do the right thing when it comes to his relationship with her mom? Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine was that she didn't allow anyone to influence her decisions, no matter how much the secondary characters pushed her to decide to stay. No way could she give up everything she's worked so hard for.

While the hero, he's accomplished so much and it made me feel sorry for him that he had to come back to Prickle Creek because of the promise he made to his family. However, in saying that, I liked that being in Prickle Creek opened up some brilliant possibilities when it came to his career as a photographer because there's no way he could give up on taking pictures. It's in his blood and he's so good at it. I also liked the hero's confidence, how determined he is to do what's right by his family and how determined he was to win the heroine over. Will he be able to do right by everyone, especially when he wants a future with Isabella?

Overall, Ms. Seaton has delivered a splendid read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was heady and intense from the moment they meet; the romance was on the sweet side, but had me loving this couple together; and the ending was heartwarming, as the hero can't let the heroine get away. She means too much to him to let her go. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, as these two are living the dream and I was so glad that Sebastian's family approved. I would recommend His Outback Temptation by Annie Seaton, if you enjoy the friends to lovers trope or books by authors Margaret Way, Fiona McArthur, Fleur McDonald and Nicki Edwards.
