Panic #2

Releasing June 27th, 2017

In Make Me Stay (Panic #2) by Sidney Halston, falling in love was never part of April's plan, because as an undercover cop there's no room for attachments. So, to keep Matt Moreno safe and out of jail, she walked away. Now she's back in Miami and determined to make things right between them. Will she be able to convince Matt to forgive her, or will it take a terrifying attack to make him see reason?

Ms. Halston delivers a worthwhile read in this book, encompassing a fast-paced  plot with really good twists, a heroine that would do anything to make things right with the hero, a hero that doesn't know if he'll ever be able to get over how she betrayed him and a story that had me smiling because of how it ended. The way this story started drew me into this story immediately, as the hero is determined to win the heroine over. Will Matt succeed in his plan, especially when the heroine is so skittish and doesn't give him much of her time? What does she have to be nervous about?

As for the dialogue, it was powerful, emotional and it was hard not to be affected by the characters emotions, as Matt finds it hard to deal with all the heroine has done when he learns the truth of her betrayal. Certainly, he goes through a rough patch and it was hard not to sympathize with his situation as his world has been turned upside down, but I liked how he found a way to bounce back, especially when something happens to one of the main characters. It's a wake-up call to find it in his heart to forgive. However, the dialogue wasn't all intense. There was certainly some playful banter between the hero and heroine, as Matt does his best to woo April before everything goes wrong between them.

Both the main characters are fantastic and they go through so much within this story. Will April be able to make things right between her and Matt? Will the hero's talk with one of the secondary characters finally make him realize that a life without love isn't much of a life, especially when his twin has found his own happy ever after? Will the hero's twin be able to knock some sense into him when it seems the hero is on a downward spiral he might not be able to find his way out of before it's too late?

Moreover, the heroine is strong and brave with everything she has to deal with including her illness and I liked how determined she was to turn her life around, because undercover work no longer holds the appeal it once did, as it forces her to be someone she's not. I also liked that although she was hesitant to put her trust in the hero when things went wrong for her, I'm glad that she did, because she needed him. While the hero, I could understand why he acts the way he does when he discovers the heroine's betrayal and I could also sympathize with him. Did he ever get to know the real April or was everything a lie? I also liked how the secondary characters did their best to snap the hero out of his downward spiral, because he needs to either find a way to forgive April or forget about her and move on. However, what I liked most about the hero was his willingness to help April after what happened to her.

Overall, Ms. Halston has penned another wonderful read for this series where this couple's chemistry was intense and spilled over onto the pages in hot sex scenes that illustrated just how good these two are together and that they shouldn't let anything keep them apart. The way this story ended had me feeling sorry for the heroine after all she's been through and then how the hero treats her once she admits everything about the past and why she did what she did. Will he ever be able to forgive her? However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, because of how it sets things up for the next book of the series, which I'm really looking forward to. I would recommend Make Me Stay by Sidney Halston, if you enjoy second chance romances, the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Kristen Ashley, Kelly Elliott, Nikki Sloane or Stacey Lynn.

Secret identities, second chances, drama, desire: It’s all going down in Miami Beach in this tantalizing novel from the bestselling author of Pull Me Close, which was hailed by Aurora Rose Reynolds as “a heart-gripping story about . . . the power of love.”

April: Walking away from Matt Moreno was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Lying to him was a close second, but for his safety, I had no other choice. I was undercover, working to put some nasty people behind bars. But when Matt nearly recognizes me on Lincoln Road a year later, all those very real feelings come rushing back. Now that my assignment’s almost over, will he understand why I lied? Why I had to leave? Most important, can he ever forgive me?

Matt:
I was madly in love with June Simpson . . . or, at least, with the woman I thought was June. Then she just disappeared while my family’s nightclub went through hell. And after months of searching, when I think I’ve finally found that sexy, raspy voice and those exquisite blue eyes, she slips away once more. Turns out, “June” is actually Detective April White. She’s been playing me the whole time. And she’s about to rock my world all over again.

“Slide over, will ya? I need to order a drink.” He sounds as if he’s already had enough drinks and doesn’t need another one. I’m about to tell the guy where he can stick his drink when I see her reach into her purse and pull out her phone. I’m mesmerized. What is she doing? The jerk is staring at her, waiting for her to move, but she’s reading a text instead, completely ignoring him.

But then the man makes the wrong decision. He grabs her elbow and pulls her up from the stool.
“Hey! Get your hands off me!” she shrieks. Her eyes, a piercing light blue that’s almost translucent, glare at the man.
“Is everything okay?” I ask loudly, to be heard over the music.
“Miller Lite,” the guy has the fucking nerve to call out.
But she speaks over him. “No. Everything’s not okay. This guy grabbed me.”
“Calm down, honey. You’ve been sitting here all night. Some of us need room.”
“Well, you could say ‘excuse me.’”
“And you can move your fat ass,” he spits back. “It’s not like you need any more drinks.” At that, her mouth opens wide and she gasps. From what I can see there is nothing fat about this woman, but even if there was, the guy’s totally out of line. With both palms on the bar I lean forward and get in the man’s face. “Outta my bar—” But I don’t have a chance to finish before she lifts her glass, stands up, and slowly and deliberately pours the entire drink over the guy’s head, olives and all.
Swear to God—swear to fucking God—all the lights, the music, and the people dancing come to a screeching halt as she slams her empty glass on the table and calmly sits back down. “Another martini, please,” she says sweetly, batting her lashes.
Fucking spectacular.
I think I might be in love.

USA Today bestselling author, Sidney Halston lives her life with one simple rule: "Just Do It"--Nike. And that's exactly what she did.

After working hard as an attorney, Sidney picked up a pen for the first time at thirty years old to begin her dream of writing. That first pen stroke sealed the deal, and she fell in love with writing. Sidney lives in South Florida with her husband and children. She loves her family above all else, and reading follows a close second. When she's not writing, you can find her reading and reading and reading. She's a reader first and a writer second. When she's not writing or reading, her life is complete and utter chaos, trying to balance family life with work and writing (and reading). BLURB
Twelve years ago, Kaitlyn Russell had a dream: living happily ever after with Clay Morgan. Except her grandmother had bigger plans for her beloved granddaughter and they didn’t include life in the small town of McKenna Springs as the wife of a young, poor deputy. Kaitlyn’s heart was broken when Clay and her grandmother convinced her to pursue her second love, Broadway stardom.

Texas Ranger Clay Morgan is a widower with a young son to raise. A dozen years before, he had to make the most difficult decision of his life when he agreed to let go of the only woman he’d ever loved so that she could pursue her dreams.

Now, fate and an old woman’s guilty conscience conspire to bring Clay and Kaitlyn back together once more. Will they be able to lay the past to rest and rekindle their love from the ashes?

“Miss Russell,” he said as he handed back her license. “Can you step out of the car, please?”
“What is the problem, Deputy…Trooper, I mean?” Angie asked as she leaned across the center console to look up at the man who turned his officious smile in her direction.
“There’s someone on his way that will let you know what it’s all about. Miss Russell, if you would please…?” His hand went to the door handle.
Popping the door’s release, Kaitlyn opened it and stood. Her patience was beginning to grow thin.
Not one to leave her friend without support, Angie exited her own side and watched the scene from there, lending her friend her support.
“How long is this going to take? I really would like to know what this is about.” Kaitlyn fought to keep her voice controlled. She never liked guessing games.
“Well, ma’am, I think you’re about to get some answers.” As he spoke the words, he nodded over her shoulder.
They all turned to look. What the—? She was surprised to see a sleek, dark blue helicopter moving swiftly toward them. Kaitlyn raised her hand above her eyes to block the glare of the sun. She tried to make out the markings on the craft, but to no avail. What on earth was going on?
“This day is finally getting interesting again,” Angie spoke up. “Do you think they could give us a lift to New Mexico?”
“I’m glad you’re finding this amusing because I’m not.”
“That’s because you always like to be the one in control,” Angie responded with a slight toss of her head and a knowing grin.
“Yes, I do. I admit it. This person better have a quick explanation so we can be back on our way.”
The helicopter made a pass overhead then descended and swung back in a wide arc. In a few brief minutes, the pilot had easily set it down a few hundred yards distant on the side of roadway.
As the blades began to slow, the passenger side door opened. Another trooper stepped down from the craft. She moved toward them, the other trooper acknowledging her arrival with a slight nod of the head.
She nodded to both Kaitlyn and Angie before moving to stand beside her male counterpart. Obviously, this was not the person with the answers for them.
“Well, well…hellooo, handsome!
Angie’s comment, spoken in a low voice, made Kaitlyn swing her attention back to see what Angie was talking about or, more precisely, who had elicited such a breathless compliment from her friend.
In that moment, the world imploded. Everything she had trusted to not change was shattered. Time came to a screeching halt. She literally froze in place. It would be sometime later when she tried to remember if she even managed a breath of air. Everything waited…waited on the tall male figure who had stepped out of the pilot’s side door and was advancing slowly toward her.

Born and raised in the Lone Star state of Texas, Debra Holt grew up among horses, cowboys, wide open spaces, and real Texas Rangers. Pride in her state and ancestry knows no bounds and it is these heroes and heroines she loves to write about the most. She also draws upon a variety of life experiences including working with abused children, caring for baby animals at a major zoo, and planning high-end weddings (ah, romance!).

Debra's real pride and joys, however, are her son, an aspiring film actor, and a daughter with aspirations to join the Federal Bureau of Investigation. (more story ideas!) When she isn't busy writing about tall Texans and feisty heroines, she can be found cheering on her Texas Tech Red Raiders, or heading off on another cruise adventure. She read her first romance...Janet Dailey's Fiesta San Antonio, over thirty years ago and became hooked on the genre. Writing contemporary western romances, is both her passion and dream come true, and she hopes her books will bring smiles...and sighs... to all who believe in happily-ever-after's.

BLOG TOUR - REVIEW: THE LEGEND by DONNA GRANT

The Legend
Sons of Texas #3
By: Donna Grant
Releasing June 27th, 2017
St. Martins Press

In The Legend (Sons of Texas #3) by Donna Grant, Callie Reed and Wyatt Loughman were once very close until Wyatt decided he couldn't stay in Texas after what happened to his mother and the blame he directed at his father. But now he's back and determined to protect Callie from the three factions gunning for him or his family and to keep a biological weapon from landing into the wrong hands. Will he be able to keep Callie safe, or will they lose their second chance at love?

Romantic suspense is my go-to when it comes to reading, and Ms. Grant pens the best stories with this series which take readers on a wild ride, as the main and secondary characters do their best to fight back against those that are coming after them. The way this story started had me sympathizing with the heroine, as her family are nothing but trouble that she's done her best to stay away from. Will they find a way to bring her back into the family fold in order to do what they want her to do? However, what I liked most about the beginning is how protective Wyatt is of Callie and that he would do anything to keep her family from getting to her.

The dialogue was well-written and so intense that I could not put this book down. Certainly, the plot twists, the action and the main characters made this story a thrilling and intriguing read and had me determined to discover what would happen next, as Wyatt and his family have to decide whether to take the fight to the bad guys or whether to wait for the bad guys to come after them. Will they come out on top over the bad guys? Will they discover information that will make them closer as a family?

As for the main characters, both are absolutely riveting due to their back stories, the history between them and all that they go through on their journey to happy ever after. Wyatt isn't sure whether he can give a relationship between them another chance, not when he's so consumed by things that happened in the past that he needs answers to before he can even consider what his future holds. Moreover, the heroine is strong, brave and I liked how determined she was to prove her worth and show Wyatt that she can help him in the fight when the bad guys come after them. I also liked that she was just as protective of Wyatt as he was of her. Then there's the fact that the heroine is really good at getting any information they need, which is proven when the pair need to choose who they can trust.

While Wyatt, he's been through so much in his life and has always felt disconnected from his family, because of the blame he placed on his father after what happened to his mother. However, in saying that, he's beginning to find his way back to his family and he has some big decisions to make as this story progresses. Will he be able to forgive his dad? Will he give a relationship between him and Callie another chance? Yet, what I liked most about the hero was how protective he was of Callie, especially in the moment where trouble finds them; trouble that had me on the edge-of-my-seat because it seemed Wyatt and Callie were outnumbered.

Overall, Ms. Grant has penned another sensational read in this action-packed and suspenseful third book of her Sons of Texas series where the main characters chemistry was powerful, the romance totally hot and the ending had me concerned for Wyatt and Callie, as they fight for their survival and hopefully get the answers they need to something that has bothered the hero for years. However, what I liked most about the ending is how Wyatt convinces Callie of how much he wants her in his life and then how the Loughman family and their allies all decide what they're going to do when it comes to the threats they know are going to keep coming unless they find a way to end things once and for all and make sure that the biological weapon doesn't end up in the wrong hands. I would recommend The Legend by Donna Grant, if you enjoy romantic suspense, second chance romances, or books by authors Maya Banks, Alexandra Ivy, Katie Reus or Monica McCarty.

RELEASE BLAST & REVIEW: TROUBLE by AVERY FLYNN

Trouble eCover v300dpi

Trouble
Bad Boy Homecoming #2
By: Avery Flynn
Releasing June 27th, 2017
Self-Published

In Trouble (Bad Boy Homecoming #2) by Avery Flynn, Leah Camacho is determined to show her high school classmates how successful she's become in the ten years since she graduated. However, the moment she arrives in town she finds herself in trouble and having to try to stay out of the clutches of the bad guys that believe she has in her possession a 15-carat diamond. Luckily though, she has Drew Jackson willing to help keep her safe. Will his plan to take down the bad guys work, or will their second chance at happy ever after be ripped away?

Mixing contemporary romance with a dash of suspense is something I'd love reading more of by Ms. Flynn, because she pens a fantastic read in this book that kept me satisfied from start to finish. Leah and Drew are total opposites with him being a police officer who always does what's right even when he's out of uniform, which is proven by how he falls in line with what his family expects of him. While Leah, she owns a legal marijuana shop and is a total bad girl who always seems to find trouble wherever she goes. Will they be able to overcome their differences to get their second chance at love? Will Drew finally go after what he wants instead of falling in line with what his family wants?

The dialogue was well-written and completely enthralling due to the main characters back stories and the history between the hero and heroine, the trouble Leah finds herself in, the feisty attitude Leah has towards Drew that makes it palpable she doesn't back down from anything no matter how much he wants her to, and the ending that had me on the edge-of-my-seat due to what happens to the main characters. Will Drew be able to protect Leah? However, the dialogue wasn't all intense. There were also some really good light-hearted moments that had me smiling, because these two are nothing but playful when it comes to their intimate moments. Drew certainly knows how to spice things up in the bedroom and the heroine is one lucky woman to have his undivided attention.

As for the main characters, I really enjoyed both of them. The heroine is strong and brave because of all she's overcome in her past and faces throughout this story. I also like her feistiness and her determination to rattle the bad guys instead of waiting for them to come after her. Why shouldn't they take the fight and hopefully force the bad guys to make a mistake? While Drew, he's done right by his family for too long and it's about time he did something for himself. Will he finally pursue a future with Leah without caring about what his parents think, especially his mother with the way she treats Leah? He's also confident, cocky and I liked how protective he was of the heroine, even though she's very independent and believes she can take care of herself.

Overall, Ms. Flynn has delivered a steamy and very engaging read in this book where the chemistry and romance between Drew and Leah was sizzling and explosive. The way this story ended had me reading quickly determined to discover whether Drew would be able to convince Leah to take a chance on him. Will the wonderful words the hero says to Leah win her over? I would recommend Trouble by Avery Flynn, if you enjoy second chance romances, small town romances, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Carrie Ann Ryan, Katee Robert, Kennedy Layne or Stacey Kennedy.

Brains and a badass attitude. That’s all troublemaker Leah Camacho took with her when she left Catfish Creek. She’d promised herself she’d never go back, but when the invite to her tenth high school reunion arrived along with the chance to show everyone who doubted her what a success she’s made of herself, she couldn’t resist. Sheriff Drew Jackson knew a long time ago that Leah Camacho was nothing but trouble and has sworn to never get caught up in her again—no matter how damn sexy she is or how badly he’d failed to forget her.
