Don't Touch My Petunia
The Holloway Girls #2
By Tara Sheets
Releasing September 25th, 2018
Zebra Shout

Pine Cove Island is the kind of enchanting place where anything is possible . . .

The Holloway women each have a special gift, passed down through generations, each one a little different. Juliette possesses a magical green thumb, which makes her job managing the local florist shop a dream. She may be a bit wild, but she knows what she wants: to save enough money to buy the shop from her boss. Then in marches Logan O'Connor, more annoyingly handsome than ever, turning all her plans upside down.

Logan hasn't been back on Pine Cove Island since he was eighteen and broke Juliette's teenage heart. Now it turns out he's her boss's nephew--and will be spending his days remodeling the shop and barking orders. At her.

For the sake of the business, Juliette will have to ignore their simmering attraction and work with Logan. But that doesn't mean she has to make things easy for him. Because no one knows better than she that one tiny, perfectly planted bit of garden magic could uproot Logan's own plans and keep him out of her way. And nothing would make her happier. At least that's what she thinks . . .

Review Posted at HarlequinJunkie.com

In Don't Touch My Petunia (The Holloway Girls #2) by Tara Sheets, Juliette Holloway works hard to save enough money in hopes of buying the shop where she works from her boss when he finally retires. However, it seems Juliette isn’t going to have things as easy as she thought when she learns that her old crush, Logan O’Connor — who just happens to be her boss’s nephew — will be doing the renovations for the store, especially after she begged him to stay years ago. Will Logan be able to convince Juliette to take a chance on him or is Juliette’s cynicism for love and happy ever after too high for her to give Logan a shot? Read More

It was ten o’clock in the morning by the time Logan strolled in to work. Juliette tried to tell herself it didn’t matter; his job was his business. But that wasn’t entirely true. As the standing manager of Romeo’s Florist Shop, it was her responsibility to oversee everything that went on, which included the business of Romeo’s slow-moving, swaggering nephew.
“Nice of you to finally make it in,” she said when he came through the back door. She’d spent the morning swamped with customers and orders, and in the middle of it she’d had to deal with Logan’s lumberyard delivery all by herself.
He walked over to the coffeepot and poured himself a cup from the new machine. His face looked drawn, and there were dark shadows under his eyes.
Juliette crossed her arms and opened her mouth to speak, but Logan held up a hand.
“Before you start,” he said, “you should know that my answer to everything for the next five minutes is going to be ‘coffee.’”
“You should know that you’re late,” she tossed back. “We open at eight o’clock here.”
He raised his mug in salute and took a sip.
“The lumber company stopped by this morning at eight-thirty,” she continued, “and since you weren’t here, they started dumping all the supplies by the front walkway. And this time, the store was filled with customers.”
Logan leaned against the counter and regarded her with bloodshot eyes. He took another slow sip.
“What is wrong with you this morning?” she blurted. “You look like you drank one too many shots of tequila last night and had to crawl home on your lips.”
His mouth lifted at one corner as if he found her amusing.
“It’s not funny,” she said with growing annoyance. “You’re supposed to be here on time so you can handle all the remodel stuff.”
He closed his eyes and rubbed his face with one hand. “A friend kept me up all night.”
An image of the pretty blonde from the bonfire flashed across Juliette’s mind. She’d been wrapped around him like a human pretzel, and it hadn’t seemed to bother him.
Juliette bristled. “Look, if you want to party all night long with Suzy Sunshine, go right ahead. But you’re still expected to show up on time and get some actual work done here. The rest of us have to do our jobs. I’m sure Romeo wouldn’t be thrilled to know you were dragging in two hours late on your second day of work.”
Logan stopped with his cup halfway to his mouth. “Suzy Sunshine?”
“That girl from the barbeque.”
He frowned. “You mean Bella?”
“Whatever.”  She wouldn’t know. Because she didn’t care.
“We weren’t partying,” he said casually. “Not all night, anyway. I wasn’t up for it.”
She had the sudden urge to throw something at him. Instead, she smiled sweetly. “Stamina problems, huh? Not a shocker. It’s your second day on the job and you can’t even keep up.”
Logan set his cup on the counter with a thud, an unspoken challenge in his eyes.
All Juliette’s nerve endings went on high alert. She suddenly felt like a rabbit in plain sight of a wolf.
His gaze slid lazily down her body in a sensual caress, then back up to linger on her mouth before meeting her eyes. “I have no problems keeping up, Juliette.”  He drew her name out on his tongue like he could taste it. “I’d be happy to prove it to you, if you don’t believe me.”

Ten Steps to Surviving a New Job:

1. Don’t sleep with the client. It’ll get you fired. (Sounds easy enough.)

2. Don’t blink when new client turns out to be former one-night stand.

3. Don’t call same client a jerk for never texting you back.

4. Don’t believe client when he says he really, really wanted to call.

5. Remember, the client is always right—so you can’t junk punch him when he demands new design after new design.

6. Ignore accelerated heartbeat every time sexy client walks into room.

7. Definitely ignore client’s large hands. They just mean he wears big gloves.

8. Don’t let client’s charm wear you down. Be strong.

9. Whatever you do, don’t fall for the client. You’ll lose more than your job—maybe even your heart.

10. If all else fails, see rule number one again.

He scrubbed his palms over his face and rested his elbows on his knees. “This was not how I saw this night going.”

“Big Valentine’s Day plans?”
He lowered his hands and looked at me like I’d just claimed I single-handedly caused the storm raging outside. “I didn’t even know that was today. Does this mean we’re each other’s valentines by default?”
I scoffed. “Not a chance.”
He chuckled. “Always so blunt. I like that about you.” He quickly cleared his throat as if he hadn’t meant to say that. “Well, non-valentine, looks like we’re going to be stuck here a while. Have anything in mind?” he said.
I decided against packing on another insult. He was being nice, and this sure as heck beat staring at the wall the rest of the night. “My form of entertainment is at 6 percent battery, so I’m open to suggestions.”
“Mine is fully charged. Want to watch something?”
“Sure.” What else did I have to do? Before I knew it, I was sitting on the bed next to him, leaning against the ornately carved headboard. Snow gusting against the window was the only sound in the room as he searched for a show for us to watch.
So quiet.
Way too quiet.
I fidgeted with my necklace, moving the small diamond back and forth on the chain. The last time I was in bed with Ryder… I didn’t even want to finish that thought, because it’d do nothing but make this situation worse. I chanced a peek in his direction.
He chewed the inside of his cheek, swiping through our options. “This is awkward, huh?” he said.
“We’ve achieved Urkel status.”
He chuckled and scrolled through the show queue. “Would you rather watch Law and Order: SVU or Criminal Minds?
“That is quite possibly the worst Would You Rather question ever asked.”
His eyes cut to mine. “I didn’t know I was playing a game.”
“You’ve never played it?”
He shook his head.
Lainey and I played this game all the time in college, and when we’d take road trips together. She always came up with the grossest ones. “It’s simple. All you have to do is ask the person which horrible thing they’d rather do. The harder the question, the better. Like would you rather lay in a pit of snakes, or eat questionably dead roadkill?” I pointed to his phone. “Oh, John Tucker Must Die. I like that one.
“Negative, ghost rider.” He scrolled past my suggestion. “And what the hell does questionably dead mean? Is it still twitching, or are we talking suspicious cause of death?”
I shrugged. “The interpretation’s up to you.”
“You’re absolutely no help.” He swiped his thumb across his beard and contemplated. “I guess I’d go with the snakes.”
“Okay, now it’s your turn,” I said.
“Do I really have to play? I thought we were picking a show.”
I shot him a look.
“Fine. Would you rather have me or Chewbacca as your valentine?”
“Too easy. The spider.”
He put his hand to his heart. “You wound me.”
“Stop being such a baby.” I swatted at his chest and immediately pulled my hand back. Nope. Would not go there. “Okay, would you rather not be able to see or talk for a month?”
He answered instantly. “See.”
“Right. You’d probably go nuts if you couldn’t open that big mouth of yours.”
His lips twitched. “You’re one to talk.”
“Excuse me?” Okay, I did have a tough time keeping my thoughts on lockdown outside the office, but that was my own cross to bear.
“Don’t even try to play it off like you’re innocent.”
I’d dated a lot of losers in the past, most who hadn’t even bothered to get to know me, but even after only hanging out a few times, Ryder had me pegged. He was perceptive. I saw the look in his eyes whenever I dealt with Jason. His attention focused solely on me was unnerving. “Jerk,” I sputtered.
“Now I know you’re holding back. You can do way better than that.” He scrolled through his phone again. “How about Die Hard?”
“Are all your show selections about death? I’m starting to worry I made a mistake coming over here.” My lips pulled into a smile and I quickly extinguished it. God, I wanted to hate him.
“Fine.” He continued looking at the Netflix queue. “Would you rather eat sushi from a taco stand, or lick an airplane armrest?”
“Good one. Sushi.” I pointed to his screen. “How about 10 Things I Hate About You?”
He shook his head and chuckled. “Are all of your suggestions going to not-so-subtly tell me you hate me?”
I smiled sweetly. “Maybe.”
“Just think, most people would find this to be a romantic escape. Two people, stuck in the mountains on Valentine’s Day,” he said.
“We’re Hallmark movie material, all right,” I deadpanned.
Okay, fine. How about The Walking Dead?”
“Your show picking powers have been officially revoked.” I grabbed the phone from his hand.
“Hey!” He grabbed for the phone, and I held it out of reach. “You’re going to regret that.” Within seconds he was on top of me, playfully pinning me to the bed, his strong hands circling my wrists. Air evaporated from my lungs as our gazes connected.
I was immediately transported back to that night.
Tell me what you want, Zoey. Tell me what you need from me.
I swallowed hard. That was months ago, and those words still haunted me from time to time. Because he did exactly that, gave me what I wanted and needed. Repeatedly.

Chicago City Girl Tackles Colorado Mountains with Sexy, Reclusive Guide

Avery Oliver can see the byline now. What better way to jumpstart her journalism career than to head out into the woods with a sexy guide? It’s all very Bear Grylls, but she’ll take it, even if it means ditching her beloved designer suits and handbags.
All Sullivan Reed needs in life is a fly rod and the roar of a river. Playing guide to a hot little reporter can’t end well…until they strike a deal that’s mutually beneficial. She’ll pretend to be his girlfriend to deflect an overly flirtatious neighbor, and he’ll help her with the article. It’s a win-win.
Until it isn’t. By the time a storm strands them in his cabin, Sully’s done pretending. He wants Avery—badly—but she’s a big-city girl looking for adventure, not his simple life. So why does releasing her feel like he’s lost the perfect catch?

The distraction of her gorgeous legs almost did him in. Literally.
Sullivan Reed hit the brakes just in time to avoid a collision in front of the general store.
The curvy blonde in the red jacket didn’t even notice, her focus intent, trying to wrench her purse from the passenger seat of her car—a little foreign number with rental tags.
She was wearing some kind of short pants, not quite shorts but not really a skirt. Must be the new fashion—not that he paid attention to fashion. According to his ex, he never noticed anything.
But he noticed this woman—noticed her long legs, her too-high heels, and what the hell was up with that purse? It was practically the size of Wyoming. What could she possibly be carrying in there? He could pack for a three day trip in a grocery sack.
Not that he cared. He didn’t have time to be thinking about how high her heels were or the enormity of her handbag when he had other things to worry about. Bigger fish to fry. So to speak.
He needed to get in, grab his supplies, and get back to the shop. He’d stayed up late last night tying some new flies and wanted to get the new stock put up this afternoon so he could be out on the creek by dusk.
Early summer in the Colorado mountains was like paradise to a fly-fisherman. Plus he needed the time spent fishing tonight to mentally prepare himself for the visitor who was supposed to arrive tomorrow.
Besides, with that long blond hair and tall curvy figure, the woman in the red jacket was totally out of his league.
Not that he had a league, or even wanted to be in a league. He wasn’t even particularly interested in the game right now. He just wanted to be left alone.
Present company excluded. He reached across the seat and patted the neck of his golden retriever, Sadie.
Sadie was the only female in his life now, the only female he trusted, and that was fine with him. She hadn’t left him, didn’t yell at him to make more money, never nagged him to pick up his wet towels off the bathroom floor, and she hardly ever snored. All attributes that he valued.
The dog whined, sitting upright in the seat of his old truck, her gaze intent on the blond woman.
She stood on the sidewalk, oblivious to him and the fact he’d almost run her down, her large round sunglasses perched low on her nose as she looked over them to read the parking meter.
Sully watched her dig into her cavernous bag for change. He was no lip reader, but he was fairly certain she dropped a pretty clear F-bomb before pulling her hands out and throwing them up in disgust, apparently giving up on the effort.
He stepped out of his truck, his gaze captivated by the way her hips swayed and the swish of the breezy fabric of her shorts against her legs as she hurried into Miller’s Mercantile. He slammed the door and stepped up to the curb, stuffing his hands in the pockets of his shorts and jingling his loose change.
After dropping a quarter into his own meter, he paused in front of hers.
It would serve her right to get a ticket. “Just because this town is small doesn’t mean you can just ignore the law,” he grumbled, half to himself, half to the dog who watched him intently, and then he dropped a quarter into her meter.
Pausing, he thought about the size of her purse—she was probably pretty high maintenance and would be in there for a while.
He dropped in a second quarter.

Thanks so much for helping me to celebrate the release of HOOKED ON LOVE—the second book in the Cotton Creek Romance series. It’s a fish out of water story that finds a city girl in the mountains of Colorado falling for a surly loner fly fishing guide. It’s funny and cute and a little heartbreaking as Sully has to open his broken heart and take a chance on love again.
Avery Oliver can see the byline now. What better way to jumpstart her journalism career than to head out into the woods with a sexy guide? It’s all very Bear Grylls, but she’ll take it, even if it means ditching her beloved designer suits and handbags.

This book is so much fun. Here are a few of my favorite scenes:
**It’s easy to fall for Sully in the opening scene as he meets this city girl who’s just arrived in town.
The distraction of her gorgeous legs almost did him in. Literally.

**Avery’s just arrived in town and is in the general store stocking up on supplies and some outdoor fashion essentials. After trying on a few outfits and still in her bra and undies, she pulls on a pair of fishing waders then has the great misfortune of having a snake fall into the waders.
Sully heard the shriek of panic and dropped the pack of batteries as he raced for the dressing room.
He didn’t hesitate. Sensing she was in trouble, he shoved a rack of clothes out of his way as he sprinted toward her.
He’d barely reached the fitting room when the curtain pushed out, and the woman inside flung herself through it and into his arms.
Hopping back, she continued to shriek as she peeled down the suspenders of the waders, exposing her bare stomach and ample breasts that practically popped out of a black lace bra.
Scarcely able to register that she was in her underwear and waders, he could only stare as she performed what appeared to be a panicked striptease.
“Get them off,” she screamed at him, falling to the floor and kicking her legs. “There’s a snake in my pants!”
He finally grasped what she was saying—not that a snake in her pants made any kind of sense—but he reckoned she wanted out of the pants and grabbed the heel of the waders. Giving a hard tug, he tried to free her, but the rubber stuck to her bare legs.
Between that, the way she was kicking her legs, and the distraction of the black lace thong she revealed as he pulled on the waders, it was a miracle he could focus enough to do anything.
He gave a final yank, and her foot popped free. She wriggled backward, drawing her knees up to her chest as a small garter snake slithered out of the top of the waders.
“Get it! There it is!” she screamed, pointing at the snake.
He reached down and picked the snake up by the tail, holding it in the air as it tried to coil up to his hand. “This little guy?”
“Little? He didn’t seem little when he was slithering down my chest,” she shrieked, her breath coming out in hard gasps. “I’d like to see how you’d react if you had a snake in your pants.”
He blinked—completely at a loss for how to respond to that.
He was saved by Madge hurrying in from the back room, a package of AA batteries in her hand. “What’s going on? I heard someone screaming.”
She looked down at the woman in her underwear on the floor, and her eyes widened.
Sully glanced around, looking for something, anything, to give the blond to cover up with. He grabbed a compact umbrella from the rack next to him and tossed it to her. It was the closest thing to him, and it was better than nothing.
She caught the umbrella and, turning it over in her hands, she gave him an incredulous look. “What the hell am I supposed to do with this?”
“Open it,” he sputtered, gesturing to her body. “To cover yourself.”
“I’m not opening an umbrella inside. It’s bad luck.” She tossed it to the floor.
He couldn’t believe it. The woman who just had a snake fall in her pants was now worried about her luck.

**One of my favorite scenes happens at a mountain cabin during a torrential rainstorm. Avery surprises Sully by her willingness to get dirty and help, and Sully surprises her by how hot he looks wielding a chainsaw. #lumberjackporn
Her breath tickled his ear as she said, “I love that you don’t even realize how hot you are. When you were standing on that tree earlier, and you ripped your shirt off and started that chainsaw, I almost came undone. With your hard, tanned chest and the muscles in your arms and that black-as-sin beard, you looked like lumberjack porn.”
Her words sent a flurry of butterflies through his gut and a secret thrill racing up his back. She thought he was hot.
And she’d just called his beard sexy. The corner of his lip tugged up in another grin.  “Lumberjack porn?”
She nodded, biting her lower lip and letting out a small sigh of ecstasy that changed the butterflies swirling in his belly to licks of flame. “Oh yeah. Or maybe rugged mountain man porn. I’m serious—the way you looked standing on top of that tree, with the rain pouring down and you shirtless and brandishing a chainsaw—it was sexy as hell. You took my breath away.”
He didn’t know what to say—couldn’t speak. He wished she would quit saying “porn.” The tips of his ears were burning, again, dammit.

I fell in love with Sully and Avery as I wrote their story, and I hope you do too. This book is full of small town charm, sassy dialogue, and plenty of sizzle. And if you’re already a fan of the Cotton Creek series, you’ll be happy to know that one of your favorite characters from the first book makes a few appearances as well.
