In The Careless Boyfriend (The Bad Boyfriend #3) by Erika Kelly, preparing for the biggest moment in her career as a couture wedding dress designer should be the happiest moment of her life. However, when a freak accident ends up ruining the dresses she'd planned to show for her collection, Knox Holliday can't believe it. Even worse, her ex-boyfriend's best friend is the one at fault. But when Gray Bowie offers to help to get her career back on track, she reluctantly accepts. Can Knox trust Gray, especially since he's left her once before when she needed him most?

What a fun and very engaging read Ms. Kelly has delivered in this third book of her Bad Boyfriend series that kept me entertained from start to finish due to the compelling dialogue that had me loving the tough obstacles these two had to overcome; and wonderful main characters with interesting back stories that had me wondering whether the hero and heroine would achieve their happy ever after. Since it isn't easy for the heroine to trust and the hero has so much going on in his life that he shouldn't even be contemplating a relationship if he wants to achieve his goals.

The way this story started had me sympathizing with the heroine because how could such a happy moment turn to desolation in the space of a short period of time. However, I loved how things began to look up, especially because the hero proved time and again that he's so willing to help and not going to let the heroine down like he did in the past? Can Knox put her trust in Gray?

With the main characters, I absolutely loved the hero. He's been in love with the heroine for many years and I couldn't help but sympathize with him because he was caught between a rock and a hard place. Since he was unwilling to break the bro code and instead the best thing for him to do was walk away before he hurt those he cared about. Not that his best friend deserved the kind of loyalty the hero believed his friend deserved. Furthermore, the hero is charming, confident and I enjoyed how he proved again and again that he isn't going anywhere and that he wants so much for the heroine to succeed. Will Knox be able to get her career back on track? Will she be able to handle the obstacles she faces to help further her career?

While Knox, she's been through so much and didn't have the easiest of times growing up, but she's managed to rise above her childhood and teenage years of people insulting her to be the resilient and courageous woman she is. Really, taking Gray's help is a huge step for Knox because she's been independent for so long and doesn't find it easy to trust. Not after things that have happened in the past that make it hard to trust with people letting her down when she lets them in. Will Gray be another person that lets Knox down?

Overall, Ms. Kelly has delivered a really good read in this book where the secondary characters entertained me as much as the main ones as the hero has an interesting relationship with his brothers; the chemistry between this couple was strong; the romance was delightful and well worth the wait because Gray is good for Knox after the toxic relationship she'd managed to escape in the past; and the ending had me worried for this couple's happy ever after because of what happens but had me crying happy tears due to how this couple make things right between them. Certainly, the heroine is very creative and full of surprises in her pursuit of happiness with Gray. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, as these two deserve every bit of happiness they found after overcoming the tough obstacles they faced to be together. I would recommend The Careless Boyfriend by Erika Kelly, if you enjoy the friends to lovers trope, the forbidden romance trope, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Pippa Grant, Lili Valente, Kendall Ryan and Kylie Scott.

Gray knew her. He just did. And that made it easier to believe the bomb he’d detonated at her feet. Finally, after blocking out his confession for the past hour, she let it come flooding in. I was in love with my best friend’s girlfriend

Shock waves rolled through her, slamming into every cell in her body. In love with me? Her brain sorted through snapshots from their time together, trying to catch a glimpse of his expressions. But what could she make of them? She could mold a memory into anything she wanted. Gray didn’t lie. He didn’t have to—he had enough confidence and self-possession to own everything he said and did.

Which meant…he’d loved her. That’s why he hung around me

All her life she’d felt less than Gray Bowie. He was handsome and powerful, confident and competent. In high school, he’d walk down the hallways, and people would look up from their conversations, pause in reaching into their lockers, just to watch his easy gait, his infectious smile. He radiated authority. He was that unicorn who seemed to fit perfectly in his own skin, while the rest of them were gangly and awkward and unsure. Gray’s bombshell opened up a whole new perspective. It made her see just how deeply she’d let the bullies shape her perceptions about herself.

Tonight, Gray had removed that lens. Not that anything could’ve happened between them. Robert would never have let go of her. She’d had to move to New York with no forwarding address in order to free herself. She kept skimming the edge of the bomb site. It was too bright, too scary to look in. He’d loved her? He’d loved her. Gray Bowie had loved her.

Now, it almost seemed ridiculous to think of all that time he’d spent with her as anything else. No one spent that much time with a pity project. You invited her to party here and there, you heard of an opportunity and tossed it her way. But you didn’t spend every free moment with your project.

He’d dropped the bomb, and she’d slammed the door in his face. She’d let him tell her a truth so big and horrible—he’d been in love with his best friend’s girlfriend—and then walked away. Was he still on the couch, watching mindless TV? She needed to find the guts to go out there and respond. Because what kind of person just closed her eyes and went to sleep with a confession like that hanging in the air?

Not having a clue what to say to him, she threw back the covers. She hadn’t been in love with him. That had been so far out of the realm of possibility, she hadn’t even contemplated it. But she’d liked him better than anybody. Tell him that. She flung open the door, ready to talk to him…only to find the suite dark, the couch empty. Why did she feel like she’d missed an opportunity? Should she knock on his door? Wake him up? Of course. He deserved a response, even if it had taken her an hour to find the courage.

She pressed her ear to his bedroom door but didn’t hear a sound. Lightly, she knocked. “Gray? You up?”

“Yeah. Yep.” His voice sounded gravelly. When she opened the door, she saw a flash of white, as he flipped the covers back and swung his legs off the bed. He snatched his boxers off the floor, jamming his legs into them and yanking them up. Scrubbing his face, he stalked towards her. “You all right? What’s going on?”

“I believe you.”

“Sorry?” He looked so adorable, this big mountain of a man, wearing nothing but bright red boxers with a green grinch printed all over them. His broad, hairy chest, so toned, so fit, those bulging biceps, and rock-hard thighs—my God. This man had loved her.

“I believe you.” This time she smiled because those were the three most powerful words she’d ever said.

“Still not getting it.”

“I’ve been working through it subconsciously. I started with total dismissal. No way did Gray Bowie have feelings for me. Then I moved to, okay, yeah, you don’t spend all that time with a pity project. You put on latex gloves and serve her a nice dinner once a year. You don’t lie on her bed, feet against the wall, and talk about her dreams of being a fashion designer.” He watched her, like the glitter was settling and the image inside the snow globe was becoming delightfully clear. “But then, the truth started to sink in. You had a busy life. Not just your competitions, but your brothers, your dad, and uncle. And then—bam—it rose right up out of my subconscious and smacked me across the face.”

She came closer to him. “Gray, you chose me over time with your brothers. Well, over a lot of things. And I didn’t see it because of them. Of what bullies like Cady and Melissa trained me to believe. That I was trash. I thought flipping them the bird made me rise above it. I thought my little revenge plots made me invincible. But I didn’t see how my impressions about myself and the world came from them. Gray, the idea that you loved me? It just didn’t compute. A guy like you?”

His eyes softened, and he cracked a shy grin. Oh, Gray Bowie all vulnerable like that? That was hotter than anything she’d ever seen. “I don’t know how it would’ve changed my life if I’d seen the truth,” she said. “But I can tell you it changes me now.”

He didn’t say anything, and awareness broke over her like a cracked egg. Don’t forget that he walked away, stayed away for seven years. He’d had no intention of ever seeing you again. Oh, God. He was talking about a childhood crush, and she was standing here gushing at him. “I mean, I know you don’t love me anymore. Of course. Obviously. I’m just saying that you’ve given me a whole new perspective on my childhood, and it’s pretty damn amazing. We’re good, though. We can work together without you thinking that I’m, like…that I expect…you know, that I think you’re still in love with me.” She laughed, but it sounded as phony as it felt. “Anyhow. I just wanted to say I believe you. That’s a big moment for me, not you, so I obviously shouldn’t have woken you up to tell you. I could’ve kept that one to myself. So, anyhow. I’m a weirdo. Goodnight.”

She gave him a smile she was pretty sure could only be found in a Fun House hall of mirrors and turned to go. But his years of training served him well, because his arm shot out, wrapped around her waist, and jerked her against his hot, hard chest.

“Never keep anything to yourself.” He leaned in until she could smell the toothpaste on his breath and the clean-linen scent on his skin. “I love every damn thing that comes out of your mouth.” And then he pressed those beautiful lips to hers, and her heart exploded. Desire, sharp and fierce, burst in her core, the current so strong it flooded every fiber and tissue in her body.

Immediately, she lost herself in the feel of his smooth, warm skin and the command of his tongue as it took possession of hers. Gray’s kiss started with supreme confidence, making it feel like he was in charge, that she was along for the ride—a thrilling but controlled ride. One you knew couldn’t go off the rails. And then it faltered.

He let out a sign that sounded utterly desperate. The power of his touch gave way to a tremble in his arms, and his body heated up to blistering. His control snapped, and he turned reckless, wild. She’d never been kissed like this—like he needed to gobble her up but couldn’t get all of her in at once. Like he needed to consume her, get his fill before she was snatched away. Everything about Gray—his scent, the way his strong hands roamed her back as though he couldn’t believe he got to touch her—the passion in his embrace—lit her up, flipped on all the lights—and she wanted it. She wanted this torrent of yearning and desire and need. Until those strong hands slid down and cupped her ass and gave her a lusty squeeze. The press of his arousal against her stomach sent up warning flares—sex—and, God, sex with Gray Bowie? Panic had her hands pushing him away.

“I…” Her fingertips brushed across her sensitive lips. Those blue eyes worked hard to read her, his chest pumping, arms still out so that if she took one step forward her bottom would fit snugly back in his hands. And it struck her—like really hit her hard—how much she wanted that. “I’m sorry. I…goodnight.”

RELEASE DAY BLITZ - REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: THE THING ABOUT LOVE by KIM KARR

The Thing About Love
By Kim Karr
Releasing January 3rd, 2018
Self-Published

In The Thing About Love by Kim Karr, when Juliette 'Jules' Easton is hired to plan a wedding in just five weeks, she doesn't expect the bride to make her team up with the woman's brother. Yet, seeing as she's stuck with him, Jules is determined to make the most of the situation. However, she never imagined she'd fall for the arrogant and cocky doctor. Will Jules be able to convince Jake Kissinger that they deserve a shot at happy ever after, or are his plans for his future too important for him to stick around and find happiness with Jules?

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Karr, and what a book it was. Really, it was incredibly well-crafted, compelling and a wonderful combination of intense moments and playful banter that made this story an absolute page turner right from the beginning to the end. The way this story started had me hoping for the best for the heroine, because she needs things to go her way due to what's happening with the family business. Will she be able to turn things around? Will she be able to handle planning a wedding with Jake? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine met where this story got very interesting, as the heroine doesn't make the best first impression when she meets Jake. Will he give her another chance to prove herself, especially after her case of mistaken identity?

As for the main characters, both are relatable, incredibly likeable and I loved every moment they conversed, especially in the beginning because there's a bit of discord between them because of what happened when they first meet. Moreover, the heroine is resilient when it comes to her job and being able to go on after the loss she suffered in her past.  I also liked how determined she was to create the perfect day for the bride, because if she doesn't, she could lose everything important to her; and I also enjoyed the challenge she and Jake provided each other, as it creates wonderful sexual tension between them that eventually spills over onto the pages in fan-your-face sex scenes that spice up the story. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine was that she would do anything for those she loves, which is proven by what she does for one of her family members.

While the hero, he's been through so much in his life and the guilt he's felt over what happened to his father has him determined to follow in the man's footsteps. Will Jake be happy with the choice he makes? Moreover, the hero is also confident, cocky and I loved how he would do anything for family, because his gran and sister are important to him. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is that he opened up to the heroine about his past and how readers learn how connected their past is because they both lost people to one of the most terrible tragedies.

Overall, Ms. Karr has delivered a must read in this book where the ending left me completely satisfied, as the hero realizes he can't live without Jules in his life. I also liked how the ending of this story helps the pair to heal from the hurts of their pasts because of what the hero discovers. I would recommend The Thing About Love by Kim Karr, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Vi Keeland, Penelope Ward, Lauren Blakely and Meghan March.

Blurb

The whole stethoscope-and-white coat thing isn’t my cup of tea.
I prefer a man with an artistic vein in his body. 9 - 5 hours. And I can definitely do without the half-lidded, sleepy bedroom eyes. (Okay, so those are kind of sexy.)

Tall, dark, and handsome doesn’t change the fact that he’s arrogant, cocky, and rude. Not that I care, but he’s made it clear he wants nothing to do with a quirky girl like me, which is why he said no.

Turns out no isn’t an option.

I have a quickie wedding to plan, and Dr. Jake Kissinger doesn’t have a choice. He looks at our situation like he’s stuck with me, but in reality, I’m stuck with him. Stuck with his pouty mouth. His long, lean body. And stuck with those loose, low riding scrub pants. (Okay, so the doctor thing is growing on me.)

When spending time together turns into more than it should, I know I’m in trouble.

He isn’t supposed to make my heart pound.

I’m not supposed to make him look twice.

And we aren’t supposed to spend the night together. (Okay, so he has more than one artistic vein in his body, and other places.)

Falling for him is definitely a mistake.

Here’s the thing…

Jake is unavailable, and I know it.
Just not in the way you might think.

I guess you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

RELEASE DAY BLITZ - REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: MIRACLE AT CHRISTMAS by DEBBIE MASON

Miracle at Christmas
Christmas, Colorado #7.5
By Debbie Mason
Releasing December 19th, 2017
Forever

In Miracle at Christmas (Christmas, Colorado #7.5) by Debbie Mason, Charlotte Bailey has been a blessing for the local hospital in the sleepy little Cororado town of Christmas, but now her boss is demanding for the hospital to close. Needing to find a miracle, Charlotte finds herself working alongside Dr. Matt Trainer to save the hospital before Christmas. Will a Christmas miracle happen for the small town of Christmas, or will Charlotte and Matt lose their chance at happy ever after?

I've read a few books of this series, and really enjoy being able to revisit the characters of Christmas, Colorado; and I've got to say that this story was an absolute delight to read. Really, the pages flew by because of the fantastic main and secondary characters; compelling dialogue that had me cheering for the heroine to find a way to keep the hospital open as well as get a second chance at love for the heroine with a man that she can trust unlike her ex-husband; and a fast-paced plot that had me liking everything the hero and heroine go through including the medical emergencies. Such as Charlotte needing every ounce of strength she has to protect a patient. Will she win the battle?

The way this story started had me sympathizing with the heroine, as her ex-husband is an absolute jerk that deserves her wrath, both for what he did in the past and what he's doing now that makes it seem like the heroine doesn't have much of a chance of coming out on top against him. However, in saying that, I liked that the heroine was resilient, brave and determined to find a way to keep the hospital open. I also liked that she didn't quit when the going got tough, especially since her ex-husband deserves everything that happens to him in the end after what he did to Charlotte. While the hero, he's kind, caring, a very good doctor and I loved how supportive he was of the heroine when it came to the choices Charlotte made when it came to going head-to-head with a very powerful and rich man in order to protect her patient. I also liked how he challenged the heroine when it came to a certain decision she made, because getting his way was good for the hospital.

Overall, Ms. Mason has delivered a really good read where the chemistry between this couple was fantastic; the matchmaking of the secondary characters had me hoping the heroine would make the right choice when it came to her future with Matt; and the ending had me smiling because of how things turn out for the hero and heroine. What a way for the heroine to surprise the hero and I loved Charlotte's nickname for Matt. I would recommend Miracle at Christmas by Debbie Mason, if you enjoy second chance romances, small town romances, the matchmaking trope, or books by authors Susan Mallery, Raeanne Thayne, Lori Wilde and Robyn Carr.

I make everything complicated. Instead of being content owning a bar, I accept a job with the Rescue Ops team at Night Eagle Security. Not only is she one of my new co-workers, she's also just become my first assignment. Like I said, complicated.

When Sayward's father dies and his secret ties to the Columbia cartel put her in danger, it's my job to keep her safe at all costs. For a woman who's more comfortable with computers than humans, she's not exactly thrilled to have me as her bodyguard--or by our undeniable spark. And with threats coming at us from all sides, I can't let our attraction compromise her safety. Because if I do, my first mission might be my last...
