In Hearts Like Mine (Echo Lake #2) by Maggie McGinnis, Delaney Blair knows it's going to be tough to bring the budget of Echo Lake's Mercy hospital's pediatric unit into line, but someone's got to do it. Unfortunately, the hard task has landed in her hands. Her plan -- to strategize with the interim head of the department, Dr. Joshua MacKenzie and see what they can come up with. But when he challenges her to spend time on the ward, she's reluctant at first, yet knows that what he's asking may be necessary, if she's to meet the amount she's being forced to cut the budget down to.
The pediatric department of Mercy hospital is already struggling to stay afloat on the budget they have, but when Dr. Joshua Mackenzie learns that the hospital are looking to cut further into his budget, he decides that desperate times call for desperate measures. To prove that the pediatric department need all the money they can get, Joshua is going to show Delaney just what it takes for the unit to run and why everything in the budget is necessary.
From start to finish, this book was incredible and weaved a spell that drew me immediately into the story due to the two incredible main characters, some rather compelling dialogue and the challenges this couple had to face on their journey towards happy ever after. Working temporarily in pediatrics isn't something Delaney wants to do, because it'll bring back painful memories, yet she needs to see how the ward struggles while trying to make tough decisions.
As for the dialogue, I really enjoyed both characters and loved the moments between Joshua and Delaney. The heroine is strong, brave, and tenacious. Being in pediatrics is not easy for Delaney, but it gives her purpose. Gives her the inspiration to maybe change her career, to follow the dream she had long ago before she believed she couldn't be a doctor like her father. Yet, what I liked most about her was the interactions she had with the kids on the ward made me smile. Those interactions really made a difference, not just for the kids she helped but for her as well.
While Joshua, he's hard-working, confident and tenacious in his attempt to get the heroine to see things from his point-of-view. He loves his job and is good at it. His staff respect him, which is proven through the dialogue, as the staff -- at first -- are determined to push Delaney to her limits while she's on the ward. The kids he treats are important to him, and he doesn't want to lose any of them. A consequence that could happen, if he didn't have enough funding or staff to treat his patients.
From the moment Joshua and Delaney meet, the chemistry between them is intense and eventually explodes onto the pages in hot sex scenes. Neither of them want a relationship because Joshua is too busy with his work, and Delaney has her reasons. Such as knowing getting involved with him could jeopardize her job and she doesn't want to get involved with someone that puts their job before her. Yet, there's no denying their feelings for each other when they're working closely beside the other, especially when Delaney shows Joshua just how much she cares by befriending the kids on the ward.
Overall, Ms. McGinnis has penned an incredible novel in this one, and it has made me eager to read the first book of this series. The story ended really well with Joshua finally realizing that he wants Delaney, no matter the fact that she tried to push him away to save both their jobs. Plus, the way he proposed was impressive. What a tasty treat to find an engagement ring in. I would highly recommend Hearts Like Mine by Maggie McGinnis, if you enjoy small town romances, or a couple that are destined to be no matter how hard they fight the strong chemistry that exists between them.

BLURB:
Delaney Blair loves her job at Echo Lake's Mercy Hospital, where she's developed a reputation for being smart, fair, and driven. When she's assigned to cut funding, she has to temporarily relocate her office, put on borrowed scrubs, and go toe-to-toe with Dr. Joshua Mackenzie, the interim head of the pediatrics department. His killer smile and rock-star body are distractions Delaney could do without, but she's determined to stay focused while she brings his budget into line.

It's not working.

Beloved by his colleagues and patients alike, Josh is too busy caring for sick kids to talk numbers with the sexy, stiletto-clad Delaney. Every time they talk business, tensions run high…but so does a powerful attraction neither of them can ignore. When an emergency brings Mercy to its knees, Delaney and Josh must work together to save lives. But can they also find a way into each other's hearts?

“You’re just going to have to go down there, Delaney.” Megan propped a hip on Delaney’s desk two days later. Delaney envied her assistant’s long skirt, gypsy earrings, and long, loose cotton blouse. In college, she’d have topped it off with a head scarf and combat boots, but for the workplace, she’d gone with her standard-issue leather sandals.

Delaney looked down at her own outfit and wondered when she’d turned into a toned-down version of her country club mother. Her neatly ironed blouse was set off by a perfectly matched skirt and jacket, and as she fingered the pearls at her throat, she sighed. Then she let her eyes coast down her calves, down to the Jimmy Choos she’d bought just last month. It was her splurge, her bow to girliness and inappropriate spending, and damn, she loved these shoes.

She really did need to ditch the pearls, though.

“I can’t just go down there, Megan.” Delaney felt a tingle at the base of her neck, just thinking of walking onto the pediatric floor. No, she definitely couldn’t go down there.

“Well, he’s obviously not coming to you.”

“How can he just ignore my messages like this? It’s downright rude.”

“Or he’s downright busy. Have you seen the bed count on pediatrics this week?”

“No.” Delaney cringed. It wasn’t the kind of thing she kept track of on a daily basis.

“There is always the possibility that he’s not intentionally ignoring you. Just saying.”

“I’ll check.” Delaney clicked into the system that listed current inpatient numbers. When she got to the pediatric floor, her eyes widened. “Holy—”

“Exactly.” Megan raised her eyebrows.

“We don’t even have that many pediatric beds.”

“I know. They had to move a couple of the teenagers up to adult floors to make space.”

Delaney clicked back through the past month, and the patient counts went up and down a little bit, but not much.

“I’m just saying—this could be why Dr. Mackenzie hasn’t called back.” Megan leaned close to Delaney and plucked open her top button. “Which means you, third floor, this afternoon. He’s clearly isn’t coming to you.”

Delaney felt the chills creep down her spine. She had never actually been on Mercy’s pediatric floor—had never been on any pediatric floor—not since Parker had died.

“Delaney? You okay?” Megan’s brow creased as she studied Delaney’s face. “You are six shades of white, girl. Does talking to non-executive-suite people make you this scared?”

“No.” Delaney’s voice came out in a whisper.

“Oh.” Megan’s hand flew to her mouth. “Oh, God. I’m sorry.” She squeezed her eyes shut. “I’m so sorry. I wasn’t thinking.”

Delaney nodded slowly. “It’s okay. It’s been—a long time since he died. Not like you would think of it.”

“But I should have. I’m really sorry.” Megan tried to look into her eyes, but Delaney’s felt all shifty. “Do you want me to go with you?”

“No, Meg. I don’t want to go at all.”

“But—”

"I know. He’s not coming to me.” She took a deep breath, blowing it out slowly. Maybe it wouldn’t be horrible. Maybe she wouldn’t melt into a panic-puddle at the elevator doors. Maybe she wouldn’t see Parker everywhere she looked.

Maybe pigs flew.

Truly, Madly, Sweetly
Sweet Love #1
By: Kira Archer
Releasing April 4, 2016
Entangled Lovestruck

In Truly, Madly, Sweetly (Sweet Love #1) by Kira Archer, after being betrayed by her ex, Natalie Moran is determined to make her food truck a success. So, when she inherits a parking spot, she knows it's the perfect location to follow through on her dream. However, Eric Schneider is determined to make things difficult for her since inheriting the bakery where her perfect parking space resides. Can they come to an arrangement that suits them both?

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Archer, but I'll say with absolute certainty that it won't be my last. From start to finish, this book was engaging and fast-paced due to it encompassing the opposites attract trope, a heroine determined to get back on her feet after her ex-boyfriend betrayed her, and a hero determined to start his own bakery. I really liked how this story started, as Natalie totally embarrasses herself, and the intense chemistry this couple had made me eager to discover how their relationship would progress.

Every moment this couple interacts the sexual tension between them increases, which eventually spills over onto the pages in nicely-detailed sex scenes. There are some really nice light-hearted moments that made me smile, as Eric certainly knows how to make Natalie flustered. Yet, the dialogue is also intense due to the main characters back stories, and the fact that Eric's parents are determined to interfere with his plans. The hero's parents are a real piece of work, and I kept hoping he would stand up to them, because Natalie was worth fighting for.

I really liked both the main characters, however, there were moments where both Natalie and Eric's best friends annoyed me. Both best friends were so determined to make the hero and heroine think the worst of the other. And although, things might have started out that way, I was pleased that the pair threw caution to the wind. That -- at first -- Eric was willing to do anything to get what Natalie inherited. Yet, the more time he spent with Natalie, the more he began to see how good they were together, and that he would do anything to keep her in his life.

Natalie has been betrayed before, so it's not easy for her to trust Eric completely. Her ex-boyfriend was a real piece of work. Yet, she's hard-working, independent, and tenacious. She's willing to fight for what she's inherited, and if it means meeting Eric halfway by agreeing to his plan of obtaining her help for kitchen time to make her cupcake creations, then she'll do it.

While Eric, he's hard-working, confident, and tenacious. He's determined to succeed in getting out from under his parents rule and make his own path. The effort he puts in to helping make decisions for the bakery and the lessons Natalie gives him in baking made me smile or laugh, as he didn't make things easy for the heroine. Indeed, he had no idea what he was doing.

Overall, this story was a great read where it goes to show that dreams do come true. Ms. Archer ended this story really well with Eric finally standing up to his parents because a life with Natalie was worth whatever punishment they gave him for going against what they wanted for his life. I would recommend Truly, Madly, Sweetly, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope.

BLURB:
An inherited parking spot. That’s all it took to make Natalie Moran’s food truck dreams come true. But her dream space is attached to a bakery inherited by someone else—drop dead gorgeous Eric Schneider, a financial consultant who wouldn’t know a cupcake from a cannoli. And he wants to buy Nat out, no matter what she has to say about it.

Eric’s determined to build his own business, but he needs the super cute klutz with the cupcake truck to help. If Nat will teach him the basics of running a bakery, he’ll give her free kitchen time. Except…neither expects the heat burning between them or the possibility that their arrangement might become permanent.

When it all blows up, Nat is convinced his actions mean betrayal. It’s up to Eric to regain her trust and show her he’s a man who is truly, madly in love with her, before she disappears from his life forever.

The walk home was a blur of hands and lips and a vague sense of embarrassment whenever someone had to clear their throats to get around them on the sidewalk. Nat nearly sobbed in relief once they reached Eric’s brownstone. They jogged up the stairs to the front door and Eric pulled her against him, claiming her lips again while he fumbled for the keys in his pocket. Nat vaguely realized there were still people wandering about the streets, but nothing much registered on her radar but Eric.

He dropped the keys on the stoop but neither took much notice. Eric pushed her up against his front door, his hands tangling in her hair as he angled her mouth to fit to his. She yanked his T-shirt out of his jeans, desperate to get her hands on his bare chest. He pulled the shoulder of her dress to the side, kissing across her collarbone.

Someone coughed. Eric and Nat glanced up, disoriented, and froze when they met the shocked gaze of someone’s little old night-owl grandma, apparently setting out to walk her dog. Eric nodded at her, his hand still entangled in Nat’s dress, his body pressed to hers. Moving, however, would definitely be worse, seeing as how it would give the poor old woman an eyeful of the rock solid length currently straining the seams in Eric’s pants.

“Good evening, Mrs. Jankowski. Going for a walk?” he asked.

Nat smiled and felt around on the ground for the keys with her foot.

Mrs. Jankowski nodded, her mouth hanging slightly open. “Just taking Peanut out.”

“Got them,” Nat whispered, kicking her foot out of her stiletto long enough to snake the keys with her toes. She brought her foot up behind her, grabbed the keys and shoved them into Eric’s hands.

“Ah. Lovely night for it,” he said, jamming his key into the lock. Nat sagged against him in relief when she heard the lock click.

“We’re just on our way in. Have a good night then.” Eric opened the door and they stumbled inside and slammed the door, shutting out the sight of his thoroughly shocked and mildly amused neighbor.

The moment the door closed, Eric and Natalie burst out laughing.

“Oh my God, your poor neighbor.”

“Yeah, I’m going to have to move for sure.”

They laughed again. The movement brought Eric and his poor pants back into contact with the sensitive skin of Nat’s bare thighs and her laughter choked off in a gasp. Eric’s eyes locked with hers and their smiles faded.

Then his lips were on hers again, his hands roaming over every inch he could touch. Eric spun Nat into the hallway and up a flight of stairs before she could catch her breath.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Kim Archer resides in Pennsylvania with her husband, two kiddos, and far too many animals in the house. She tends to laugh at inappropriate moments, break all the rules she gives her kids (but only when they aren't looking), and would rather be reading a book than doing almost anything else. She has odd, eclectic tastes in just about everything and often lets her imagination run away with her. She loves her romances a little playful, a lot sexy, and always with a happily ever after.

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: GOING ALL THE WAY by MEGAN RYDER

Going All The Way
Knights of Passion #1
By: Megan Ryder
Releasing April 6, 2016
Tule Publishing
In Going All the Way (Knights of Passion #1) by Megan Ryder, Jason Friar doesn't have many options when it comes to returning to the game he loves, but he's desperate enough that he'll accept the offer from the Georgia Knights  baseball team. However, certain conditions come with him signing on the dotted line, which is having an image consultant to help with his tarnished reputation.
After failing her latest client in keeping his image clean, Stacia Kendall has nothing to lose. Having a one-night stand might be a bad idea, but she doesn't care, it's not as if she'll see the guy again. However, when she's offered a new position helping to clean up a baseball player's image, she can't believe the player is the man she can't get off her mind.
Right from the beginning, I was captivated by this story, as Stacia has finally decided to stop being a good girl. She needs to let her hair after everything that has happened due to her failing to keep her client's image clean, which has left her father disappointed in her.
The dialogue really drew me into this story, and made me enjoy both the main and secondary characters. Stacia's best friend is protective and I enjoyed her interactions with Jason. Her threat if he hurts her friend amused me. The heroine is strong, brave, tenacious, and stubborn. I liked how she stood up to Jason when he was against anything she wanted him to do, and that she wasn't afraid to blackmail someone to help Jason out. Yet, what I liked most about her was how she finally stood up to her dad; a man that finally needed to realize that his daughter would no longer obey the things he expected of her.
While Jason, he was a fantastic hero and I enjoyed the moments when he teased Stacia to get a reaction out of her. The way he attempted to get her to succumb to the intense chemistry that existed between them until he finally wore her down. He's confident, tenacious and I liked how well Stacia did her job. She improves his image so much so that he becomes a little less hot-tempered, and works hard to help his team-mates. He wants them to take the game more seriously, appreciate baseball the way he does, and encourage them to try harder, to win so they can make the championships.
Overall, Ms. Ryder has written a fun, sexy, engaging read that has left me wanting to read more of this series in the future. The ending wrapped this story up nicely, and illustrated the strong chemistry that existed between this couple right from the start, which exploded onto the pages in hot sex scenes. What happens to Jason made me feel sorry for him, yet Stacia accepting a new job, and giving Jason another chance had me cheering. It was a way for her to finally be happy, and get out from under her father's you-should-do-what-you're-told ruling. I would recommend Going all the Way, if you enjoy sports romance, or strong heroines that finally stand up for what they believe in.

Stacia propped herself up on one arm and feasted on his flesh laid out for her. She ran her finger down the chest she had explored so thoroughly but had not seen. He lay still, muscles quivering under her light then deeper touch as she learned him, how and where he liked to be handled. A sense of power filled her, heightening her desire. She slid her hand lower, to the jeans sporting an impressive bulge. "That has to be uncomfortable."

His face contorted, muscles clenched. "Baby, you have no idea. Care to help me out of them?"

She hesitated. This was her last chance to turn back, to stop this madness. But he was a drug in her blood, singing and pulling her along to the dark side. And God help her, she wanted him. For once, she wanted to do what she wanted and be damned the consequences. She tugged at the button and opened it, releasing his erection. It sprang free, above the undone clasp.

She cocked an eyebrow at him. "Commando? Doesn't that hurt?"

He grinned and shrugged. "Underwear is too constricting."

"Thank God for that." She returned her attention to his cock, tentatively stroking him lightly. He groaned in response as it jerked. She laughed and renewed her attentions, running her fingers lightly up and down, then harder, rubbing the drop of pre-come at the tip over the wide, dark head.

After a few seconds, Jason grabbed her hand and slid out from under her, shucking his jeans in a smooth, practiced motion. He returned to the bed, pinning her, kissing her with a stronger urgency, more insistent. Her passion rose to a fever pitch.
