Two months, she repeated to herself. Sixty days.
A lot could happen in sixty days. On The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, entire relationships were formed and proposals handed out in that amount of time. Surely Hannah could rewrite history and change how Deacon saw her, right?
Yes, she’d royally botched things up in her bedroom, flaunting panties and talking about sex like some sort of nutcase. She’d been flustered and unprepared, and as a result, she’d probably come on too strong—but next time she’d think quicker on her feet.
Even better, despite yesterday’s crash and burn, there had been a moment…a brief handful of seconds when they’d both been sitting on the bed…where she could’ve sworn the air between them had shifted.
True, she’d thought that once before—the night that had sent her fleeing to Paris in embarrassment—and she’d been wrong. But that was before she’d truly put herself out there. She’d barely attempted to flirt (and those attempts had sucked), then skipped town at the first sign of failure, without even telling Deacon how she felt.
In hindsight, she wouldn’t have been surprised if she’d smelled like spit-up. Back then she’d spent half her time covered in formula or baby food from her daycare job, and never once had she worn makeup or even tried to look feminine. Could she blame him for not seeing her as a woman ready and worthy of his love?
Now things were different. Thanks to a suitcase filled with silken bravery and a year’s worth of Cosmo inspiration, Hannah felt confident and courageous. Or as close as she’d ever get, anyway. Armed with her new life’s mission, she was ready to tackle whatever setbacks came her way, and this time, she wasn’t conceding defeat until Deacon saw her as the woman she was and asked her to the dance.
Two months to make Deacon fall madly in love with her?
Hannah blew out a shaky breath. “Piece of cake.”

BLURB
Proud Scot and Fallen co-owner, Lord Iain ‘Vice’ Vissen is dedicated to performing in and producing the pleasure club’s hedonistic shows. Until the night he apprehends a rogue footman in their midst and discovers the spy is Lady Mairi MacNair—the woman who long ago broke his heart.

Born an earl’s daughter but now a seamstress, Mairi has returned to London to help open a superior pleasure club to Fallen, and finally realize her dream of being the seductive leading lady. But when she discovers her main rival is Iain, the man she loved beyond reason and was forced to abandon, she is soon caught in a web of lies, secrets, and raw, scorching passion that time hasn’t dimmed…

In one swift movement, Vice had Mairi against the wall, his fingers tangling in her sweetly fragrant hair as he straightened the combs. “What are you doing here? Really?”

Her breathing quickened, her lips glistening as she ran her tongue over them. “I was invited.”

No. Something compelled you.”

“Indeed. Decent food. Ramsey also mentioned you might still be at least part Scot and have proper whisky.”

As punishment for the impudence, he slid two fingers under her bodice and pinched one already hardening nipple. Mairi moaned, the soft sound primitive and needy, but rather than continuing, he withdrew his fingers and smiled. “Try again, my lady.”

“A poor attempt to seduce me. I know you actually prefer blondes now.”

“Beg pardon?”

“The beauty at the Castlereaghs.”

Vice choked. “That was Helena!”

“What? I mean, ah, of course. I was only teasing. My, aren’t we on edge.”

“You would be, too, if people were referring to your unmanageable baby sister as a beauty. Christ. For the safety of the world and my own sanity, she should probably go and live in a nunnery atop the Pyrenees until she is at least in her dotage.”

“Bah,” said Mairi, shaking her head. “What a hypocrite you are. Hellion was a high-spirited girl, but never silly. I doubt she has become a henwit who would surrender her virginity to a penniless rake just because he smiled at her.”

“And what a master you are at attempting to change the topic of conversation. Again, I ask, what are you really doing here?”

She glared at him, her eyes blue infernos. “What woman would turn down an invitation to see the most handsome man she’s ever known in his own luxurious home, to forget for a few hours that she is naught but a worthless servant with so many dreams unmet?”

Shocked, Vice searched her face for signs of guile. But for once, she held his gaze unflinchingly. “No,” he said softly. “No. Not a worthless servant. Never, ever that. In fact, a brave and beautiful Highland warrior.”

Mairi’s eyes glistened, and without thinking, he cupped her face. She tensed, then with a shaky exhale, she turned into his touch and rubbed her cheek against his palm. The moment stretched to infinity, all the betrayals and mistakes and lost time raging a silent battle against a hope and a love that had never quite died. Dare he believe? Fuck, he wanted to. So badly. To forget Scotland, to forget the last decade, and publicly claim this woman for his own.

To save her, he must ruin her.

Lord Sebastian St. John, dedicated bachelor and a co-owner of Fallen, the most scandalous pleasure club in London, is known as Sin for good reason. Orphaned by a shocking accident, Sin long ago vowed a life of solitude and decadence. Yet when Lady Grace Carrington begs for his help destroying her reputation, Sin can't turn the ton's most proper lady away.

Obedient daughter, wife, and young widow, Grace has had enough of being controlled. After her father arranges a second loveless marriage to an eminently respectable ancient, Grace plans a fortnight of defiance and self-ruination to stop the wedding. But as Grace enters the heady, risky world of an affair with Sin, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to him—and she soon realizes two weeks won't be nearly enough.

Disinherited by his parents and estranged from his wife, Fallen pleasure club co-owner Lord Grayson ‘Devil’ Deveraux long ago learned to place his trust in ledgers rather than people. But his ice-cold reserve hides the scandalous truth: he’s a man who craves pain with his pleasure, and a loving lady to instruct him.

Banished to the country when her whirlwind marriage collapsed, Lady Eliza Deveraux never knew why Grayson fell out of love with her: she’d tried so damned hard to quell her fiery self and be a proper, obedient wife. But when Eliza is forced to return to London and back into Grayson’s intoxicating world, banked passions reignite. Can a marriage built on secrets and pretense truly get a second chance?

REVIEW: FALLING FOR THE HOMETOWN GIRL by SHELLI STEVENS

Falling for the Hometown Girl
Marshall Ranch #2
By: Shelli Stevens
Releasing May 2nd, 2017
Tule Publishing

In Falling for the Hometown Girl (Marshall Ranch #2) by Shelli Stevens, Hunter Richardson hasn't been back to Marietta in a while, but now he's staying at Marshall Ranch for a week where he's booked a bachelor party for a friend. But the moment he comes face-to-face with Katie Marshall; the one person that has never been far from his thoughts, he knows his week will be a lot more interesting than what he imagined. However, no matter how much time they spend together, both know there can never be anything more between them than a week-long fling. Except once they part ways, will they both realize that they can't live without the other, or will all hope of happy ever after be lost?

Every book I've read by Ms. Stevens, I have immensely enjoyed. Yet, having not read the first book of this series, I dived into this one hoping that it could be read as a stand-alone, and I can say that it definitely can. From start to finish, this book kept me entertained, despite there being a jerk in one of the secondary characters. Katie is the good girl type and never one to do anything reckless, and yet, she throws caution to the wind by getting involved with Hunter. Will he stay in Marietta and finally be able to put the past behind him? The way this story started had me liking the heroine immediately, because it's palpable she's a people pleaser and gets along with everyone. Well, almost everyone, which is proven by how she stands up for herself against one of the secondary characters when she's treated rudely.

Both the main characters had interesting back stories, but most especially Hunter because he doesn't feel welcome in Marietta after how everything went down with his parents. He barely talks to them, if at all, and he knows he needs to make amends while he's in town. Will he be given a warm reception? I also liked how open and honest Hunter was about his feelings for the heroine, not only in the present but how he felt about her in the past. She's the one woman he's never been able to forget. Can Hunter convince Katie to give him a chance, even though he's hiding something from her? While the heroine, she's a Marietta girl through and through that doesn't plan to leave her hometown again. So, how could things possibly work out between her and Hunter when he lives in Seattle? She's also kind, caring, hard-working and I liked the close bond she shares with her siblings and her future sister-in-law, Claire. Luckily, she has Claire to give her sound advice when it comes to Hunter. Since she's so confused on whether to give the hero a chance or not, especially when she's casually dating someone else. What will she do about the other man in her life?

Overall, Ms. Stevens has penned a wonderful read in this book where the chemistry between the hero and heroine was all-consuming and illustrated they were incapable of ignoring the intensity of such chemistry. The way this story ended was delightful, despite Hunter's secret coming to light and it causing them to go their separate ways. Because Hunter realized he couldn't live without Katie, and I liked the surprise he had for her, as it proved how serious he was about them being together forever. I would recommend Falling for the Hometown Girl by Shelli Stevens, if you enjoy small town romances or books by authors Sinclair Jayne, Jeannie Watt to Eve Gaddy.

REVIEW: IT'S ME AGAIN, BABY by KATIE REUS

It's Me Again, Baby
O'Connor Family #3
By: Katie Reus
Releasing May 16th, 2017
KR Press, LLC

In It's Me Again, Baby (O'Connor Family #3) by Katie Reus, years ago Samantha Murphy allowed another woman to cause her to break off her relationship with Maguire O'Connor, all because she didn't trust in his feelings for her. But this time, when Maguire comes face-to-face with Samantha again due to some meddling by his family, he is going to do whatever it takes to win Samantha's heart and make certain that their relationship is one that will last forever. Except Samantha is keeping a secret and when it comes to light, will Maguire be able to keep her safe from a stalker, or will their chance at happy ever after be stolen from them?

I prefer the Deadly Ops and Red Stone Security series by Ms. Reus, but considering this is the first book I've read of the O'Connor Family series, I found it was an enjoyable read where the pages flew by quickly. Not only because it was a novella, but because this story is a second chance romance and the characters were interesting due to their past history and what caused Samantha to break things off with Maguire. The way this story started had me sympathizing with the main characters, as neither are expecting to see the other when they do. It's a tad awkward at first, and it's understandable why Maguire acts the way he does towards her at the start. How could Samantha have thought he would ever be capable of what another woman told her when it was palpable that his feelings ran strong in the past?

As for the dialogue, it flowed really well and made it hard not to like Maguire from the start. He's the kind of man that when he wants something, he isn't afraid to go after it, and what he wants is Samantha. I also liked the tight bond he has with his family, and how he and his sister tease each other. Every single one of his family are nosy when it comes to his growing relationship with the heroine, and I loved the reason why once I read it. Who would win? While the heroine, she's been through a lot and moving home to be closer to her mom was the best option for her. I also liked that she wasn't afraid to admit how insecure she was during their past relationship. That definitely took courage, and was understandable because of their age difference. An age difference that was probably a big deal back when they were together, but not so much now. Samantha is no longer the naïve, insecure girl she used to be. However, what I liked most about the heroine was that she wasn't going to back down on making her own decisions once it's revealed she has a stalker. She had a job to do; a job she's very successful at and nothing or no-one is going to keep her away from doing it.

Overall, Ms. Reus has penned a really good read where the chemistry and sex scenes were sizzling and illustrated these two couldn't get enough of each other. Besides, they have a few years to make up for. The way this story ended felt a little anticlimactic because of what happens with Samantha's stalker, yet I'm glad these two achieved their happy ever after. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely with the surprise Maguire has for the heroine. I would recommend It's Me Again, Baby by Katie Reus; if you enjoy the second chance romance trope or books by authors Jennifer Ryan, Melissa Foster, Bella Andre or Nora Roberts.

REVIEW: EDGE OF TRUTH by BRYNN KELLY

Edge of Truth
By: Brynn Kelly
Releasing May 30th, 2017
Harlequin

In Edge of Truth by Brynn Kelly, Journalist Tess Newell never thought she'd escape her imprisonment by a terrorist group that want to make certain she never gets the story she's been investigating on air. But when French Foreign Legionnaire, Flynn, is tossed into her cell, they find themselves working together to break free. Knowing he's her only chance at staying alive, Tess knows she's going to have to trust him, even if he is keeping secrets that could be dangerous if anyone learned the truth. Will they trust each other in order to survive, or will Tess decide that flying solo is the best way to achieve her goal of making sure the public hear her story?

From the moment I finished Deception Island, Ms. Kelly's debut novel, I was really looking forward to her next release, and I've got to say this book does not disappoint. It's an extremely scintillating read that wrapped me up in its spell, which blended a perfect combination of suspense and romance that gripped my attention from the very beginning and held it to the very end. Seriously, this story was one I could not put down. The way this story started had me sympathizing with the heroine's situation, as it's one that wouldn't have been easy. What will happen to her? Will the terrorists follow through on their plans for her?

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, what the hero and heroine go through and what the heroine is determined to reveal to the world about the terrorist group holding her. Will she be able to get her message out to the world? How far will the terrorists go to stop her? However, the dialogue wasn't all intense. There was some playful dialogue between the hero and heroine as well as the hero and the secondary characters -- his brothers in arms -- that broke up the intensity of the story and gave me hope that everything would work out for the heroine. That she would no longer have to fear reprisal from the terrorists, if she managed to air her story.

Both the main characters are fantastic, and I loved every moment they were on the run and trying to stay one step ahead of the terrorists. Their journey takes them on an action-packed and wild ride that had me on the edge-of-my-seat at various times throughout. Most especially when things get dangerous enough that I didn't think it possible for Flynn and Tess to escape. However, Tess and Flynn are resourceful and I liked how they could think quick when they needed to find a solution to their troubles.  Furthermore, Tess is strong, brave and altruistic. She already blames herself for deaths she wasn't responsible for and she doesn't want any more on her conscience, especially not that of Flynn and his team if anything happened to them. I also liked how determined she was to get her story aired, and that she would go to any length to achieve her goal, even if it meant tricking Flynn so that he was safe. While Flynn, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him when it came to his back story. He does the job he does for redemption and I could understand why, because he never once said a word to help those that were helpless and didn't stand a chance of stopping the person he should have without voicing a truth he didn't want to face. I also liked how protective he was of the heroine, and that he wouldn't allow her to go it alone like she wanted.

Overall, Ms. Kelly has penned an absolutely riveting read in this book where the romance was realistic, intense and completely satisfying, because if anyone deserves to be happy it's these two after what they've been through in the past and what they go through within this story. The way this story ended definitely had me worried for this couple, as they have a serious fight on their hands to stay alive. Will something bad happen to one or both of them? Will anything happen to the other people the terrorist group are threatening? However, I really enjoyed how things worked out between Flynn and Tess and how much he helped her, as she definitely needed his help and his willingness to sacrifice himself the way he does. I would recommend Edge of Truth by Brynn Kelly, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the sexy protector trope or books by authors Heather Graham, Laura Griffin, Cynthia Eden or Brenda Novak.

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: THE BOSS by MELISSA SCHROEDER

The Boss
By: Melissa Schroeder
Releasing May 1, 2017
Entangled Select

In The Boss by Melissa Schroeder, Vic Walker and MacKenzie 'Mac' Donovan went their separate ways when she gave him an ultimatum. Yet,  now she's in trouble and needs his help, especially with Russian mobsters and the FBI after her. Will Vic join the team again to help Mac take down the bad guys? And if he does, will he be able to walk away from Mac again once justice is served, or can Vic convince Mac that they deserve another shot at happy ever after?

I've read quite a few of Ms. Schroeder's books and loved them, so I couldn't wait to read this one, which is an attention-grabbing read right from the beginning and takes readers on an entertaining journey throughout, as Vic and Mac try to discover who the bad guy is. The way this story started was thrilling and had me reading quickly, determined to know what or who Vic is facing. Will he be able to defend himself? However, it was the moment the hero and heroine came face-to-face for the first time in this story that had me intrigued, as there's such strong chemistry between them, and I wanted to know what went wrong in their relationship and whether they'd get their second chance at love.

As for the dialogue, it was riveting and well-written, and I loved the main characters back stories. No one has ever been there for Mac the way Vic has been before they went their separate ways and even now when she pulls him back in to work alongside her to discover what went wrong with an op. He's the only man she seems to be able to trust completely, and it shows by the way she finally opens up more about her past and the fact that she doesn't get along all that well with her family. Mac is strong, brave and I liked that she stands up to whoever criticizes what is going on in her life. Well, mostly what's going on between her and Vic, because she didn't handle when they went their separate ways all that well. I also liked how altruistic she was once she discovers the person responsible for what's going on. No way is she going to see anyone else get hurt, especially not at her expense.

While Vic, he was a fantastic hero. He's always been the responsible one when it comes to him and his brother, and I liked that he's finally starting to make his brother realize all that he's done for him. I also liked that Vic was willing to help Mac, even though things ending between them left them both raw and not knowing whether they'd ever find their way back to each other to have a second chance. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero was how protective he was of Mac, even when it was palpable she could protect herself and didn't need anyone fighting her battles for her.

Overall, this was a superb read by Ms. Schroeder where the chemistry was strong between the main characters, the sex scenes were hot, the sayings at the top of each chapter were amusing or something readers could totally relate to and the secondary characters are ones that readers will most likely want their stories told too. The way this story ended had me concerned for one of the main characters, as they finally confront the person responsible. Will they manage to come out of the confrontation unscathed? However, what I liked most about the ending was how things turned out for Vic and Mac after the final confrontation with the bad guy. The hero isn't going to let Mac get away this time, as they belong together. I would recommend The Boss by Melissa Schroeder, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the second chance romance trope or books by authors Kaylea Cross, Katie Reus or Maya Banks.

He opened the door.
At first, he didn’t see her. He had been prepared for her to be standing on the other side of the door. Maybe that was part of their problem. He always expected her to be right there waiting for him, when she wasn’t. Instead, she was sitting on the bed, leaning back against the wall, one leg drawn up with her arm wrapped around it. Her eyes were closed, so he felt comfortable just staring for a few moments. She was such a solitary soul. He had never known another person who seemed so alone in the world, and maybe that is why he was drawn to her. Part of it was her personality. He liked the fact she would kick a man in the teeth if he didn’t respect her. But there were times like this, where he saw the softer side of MacKenzie that most people would never see. Right now, he could see it. She was tired, no doubt about that. Still, in this moment, she was probably formulating a response to the information she had obtained. It was another trait that drew him. She was just so damned hardheaded she would never give up.
“Are you going to stand there and stare at me all night?”
He smiled. “Maybe.”
Then, she opened her eyes. She had been breathtaking tonight. The dress, the makeup, the fuck-me heels. They all did a number on him. But here in the soft light, with no makeup, it was just her. Just MacKenzie.
Before, she’d tempted him. Now, she stole his heart. “Whatcha got going on in your head, Walker?”
He shrugged. “Just thinking.”
She closed her eyes again. “That always gets you into trouble.”
“Yeah. Usually. Especially when there is just you and me and a bed.”
Her mouth kicked up on one side. “Yeah.”
Her British accent deepened over the word, drawing it out. That did it. He couldn’t resist her anymore. He took four long steps and reached the bed. She sensed him approaching and opened her eyes again.
Before she could respond to him, he leaned down and grabbed her, dragged her up to him, and smashed his mouth down on hers. He let everything he had been feeling for months out in that kiss. His anger, his loneliness, and his love. He might not say it out loud, but he had known the moment she had crashed back into his life that there would be no turning away from her now. The only explanation was that he loved her.

From an early age, USA Today Bestselling author Melissa Schroeder loved to read. First, it was the books her mother read to her including her two favorites, Winnie the Pooh and the Beatrix Potter books. She cut her preteen teeth on Trixie Belden and read and reviewed To Kill a Mockingbird in middle school. It wasn’t until she was in college that she tried to write her first stories, which were full of angst and pain, and really not that fun to read or write. After trying several different genres, she found romance in a Linda Howard book.
Since her first published book , Mel has had over 60 short stories, novellas, and novels published. She has written in genres ranging from historical to contemporary to futuristic and has worked with 8 publishers although she handles most of her publishing herself. She is best known for her Harmless and Santini series.
After years of following her military husband around the country and world, Mel happily lives with her family in horse and wine country in Northern Virginia.
