REVIEW: INTO YOUR ARMS by CHELSEA M. CAMERON

Into Your Arms
Squad Stories #1
By: Chelsea M. Williams
Releasing May 30th, 2017
Swerve

In Into Your Arms (Squad Stories #1) by Chelsea M. Cameron, Freya has been through a lot and uprooting her life by transferring to Maine State University is the best thing for her. Especially since the secret she's keeping could turn her life around, if she finds what she's looking for. However, meeting Rhett at a bar and daring him to join the cheerleading squad was never part of her plan. Will she give Rhett a chance or will wanting to keep her secret hidden cost her the chance at happy ever after?

This was a story I really struggled to get through until the halfway mark, as it felt like the story was going round and round in circles the way Freya was determined to keep her distance from Rhett, going to cheerleading practice and then needing advice from friends old and new. Seriously, it felt like a movie on repeat due to the monotonous dialogue until the moment where things began to progress when Freya began to reveal things about herself and when she and Rhett started being on more friendly terms where the heroine decided to give the hero a chance.

As for the main characters, I really liked Rhett. He's done well for himself, considering he had it tough growing up in the foster system and I liked what he's doing for kids by helping them and making sure that they don't turn out like him. That they know that someone is there for them, if they need a sympathetic ear or just someone to listen. I also liked how he won Freya over by being there for her when she needs him and showing her that she deserves to be loved. But what I liked most of all about Rhett was his willingness to do anything for Freya, even though he knew he could possibly ruin their growing relationship.

While the heroine, she frustrated me in the beginning, because she was in Maine for a specific reason, and yet, it seemed that she didn't want to discover the information hard enough. However, what I did like about the heroine is how resilient and courageous she is by the way she stood up to her adoptive parents, instead of bowing to their demands. I also liked that she began to put her trust in Rhett, because she needed to put her trust in someone. Besides, he did keep proving that he wouldn't give up  on her, which is proven by the way he helps her. Moreover, I liked the teasing banter between these two as Freya begins to become more comfortable with the hero and I liked how the heroine's friends weren't afraid to offer friendly or not-so-friendly advice to Rhett, because Freya has been through a lot and doesn't need to be hurt anymore than she already has.

Overall, I did like this book, where the romance was strong and where I really had to push myself to continue to read it to discover whether it got better and it did, due to the hero and heroine finally opening up to each other, instead of Freya continuing to keep her distance and only interacting with Rhett when she had to. The way this story ended had me concerned for this couple's happy ever after, as Rhett was only trying to help the heroine because she needed answers when it came to her secret. However, it was the final chapter and the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely. Freya finally had everything she ever wanted - love, family, happiness. I would recommend Into Your Arms by Chelsea M. Cameron, if you enjoy new adult romance or books by authors Aurora Rose Reynolds or Abbi Glines.

Freya has secrets she doesn’t intend to share. Not with her new friends on the cheerleading squad at Maine State University, and certainly not with sexy lumberjack-look-alike Rhett. Just because sparks flew between them at a bar one night doesn’t mean he gets to know why she transferred to MSU. When Freya dares Rhett to come to cheerleading practice, she never expects to see the dark-haired lumberjack again.

Except Rhett is the last person to turn down a dare, especially when it comes from a pixie-sized blonde. When Rhett wows the squad and becomes Freya’s stunt partner, his hands come far too close for comfort. But as Freya and Rhett’s hot post-practice sessions bring them closer, she risks her secrets being revealed. Can Freya chance exposing who she really is to the guy who wasn’t supposed to win her heart?

REVIEW: BURNING BOTH ENDS by SINCLAIR JAYNE

Burning Both Ends
Hot Aussie Knights #2
By: Sinclair Jayne
Releasing May 29th, 2017
Tule Publishing

In Burning Both Ends (Hot Aussie Knights #2) by Sinclair Jayne, it's hard to deal with all the loss Darington 'Dare' Knight has had in her life, but when tragedy struck while on the job as a smoke jumper, her commander was worried enough to send her on a firefighter exchange program where she could be closer to family. However, when she discovers the hot guy she hooked up with -- on her first night Down Under -- is her new station commander, Dare finds herself having to fight their attraction, because Lachlan 'Lock' Ryker is a big stickler for rules and that means no fraternizing with other firefighters under his command. Yet, there's no denying their chemistry and when things start to get serious between the pair, will Dare run or will she finally realize that she needs to move on from the past to be completely happy in life?

Having really enjoyed the first book of this series, which was penned by the brilliant Amy Andrews, I couldn't wait to read this story, because I was absolutely charmed by the Knight family and their legacy as firefighters and I've got to say that this book was just as enthralling as the first book. Seriously, the beginning drew me into this story immediately, due to how Dare is reacting to where she is and the other reason why she's in Australia besides being part of a firefighter exchange program. However, it was from the moment where the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time that this story really takes off, as Dare needs a distraction. She's had too much loss already in her life, and with her grandfather, the one person that was able to reach her during the darkest moment of her life being gone, it was hard not to understand why she needed the distraction.

Both the main characters are compelling, and I loved their playful banter the moment they met. It was hot, suggestive and definitely revealed what they both wanted, despite the way they were talking in code a tad. Then there's the main characters back stories that made me empathize with Dare. She's already experienced a great love and she doesn't think she'll ever be ready to let another man in. Yet, there's something about Lock that makes her want to take a chance, even though she's scared of losing yet another person she loves, if she takes a chance on him. I also liked that she was brash, impetuous and wasn't afraid to push Lock to the limit when it came to their growing relationship and convincing him to break his rules.

While Lachlan, he's a fantastic hero and I loved how he won Dare over. He's already been through a divorce where his ex was a bit controlling in what she wanted and there was no way he was going to adhere to her demands. Not when he was determined to do what's right for his siblings after what happened to their parents. Luckily, Dare is the complete opposite to his ex, and I liked the moment that the heroine and his ex met. Talk about awkward, but at least Dare held her own. I also liked how Lock proved to Dare about how wrong his ex was when it came to what he wanted for the future. That there was nothing wrong with the surprise she had for him.

Overall, Ms. Jayne has penned a delightful read in this book, which was a tad emotional at times and where the romance was hot and Lock made Dare feel really special. The way this story ended was perfect, despite Dare being worried about Lock's reaction after what his ex told her. Luckily, Dare is special to Lock and he proves that with his words and his actions. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up beautifully, as Dare is finally ready to let go of the past and cement her future with Lock. I would recommend Burning Both Ends by Sinclair Jayne, if you've read the first book of this series, enjoy second chance romances, or books by authors Amy Andrews, Victoria Purman or Trish Morey. I would also recommend reading A Country Love Song by Sinclair Jayne, as the heroine in that story is Dare's sister.

BLURB
Darington 'Dare' Knight has known a lot of loss in her twenty-six years. She can deal, so she resents it when the commander of her Montana smoke jumper unit sends her on a firefighter exchange program in Australia after her unit suffers a double tragedy. Hooking up with a sexy firefighter her first night Down Under improves Dare’s mood considerably until she realizes her hook up is now her station commander and he has a rule book as thick as her arm.

Lachlan Ryker did not make senior station officer as a Melbourne Metropolitan firefighter by the time he was thirty by acting impulsively, but when he meets the sexy, brash American in his favorite pub, his by-the-book, measured approach to life gets kicked to the curb. He and Dare ignite one night of smoldering passion he can’t forget. But before he can call for a second date, Dare strolls into his station newly assigned to him for three months. Lock knows he has to keep his hands to himself. He never breaks the rules. Dare, however, never heard a rule she didn’t want to shatter.

REVIEW: DEEP BURN by KIMBERLY KINCAID

Deep Burn
Station Seventeen #2
By: Kimberly Kincaid
Releasing June 13th, 2017
Self-Published

In Deep Burn (Station Seventeen #2) by Kimberly Kincaid, Shae McCullough loves being a firefighter, but when she does something reckless while on the job, she's sent to work with the arson investigation unit for two weeks. Except when she discovers a recent fire linked to the scene that led to her suspension, Shae isn't about to allow anyone to discount her instincts until she has all the facts. However, she never imagined she'd have to team up with James Capelli to find the truth. Yet, the further into the investigation they get, the more James finds too many coincidences that lead back to his past; a past he's moved on from, but has been unable to forget. Can James and Shae find the person responsible before it's too late, or will their chance at happy ever after go up in flames?

Ms. Kincaid writes really good contemporary romances, but her romantic suspense stories are even better in my opinion. Seriously, this book had everything that I love in a romantic suspense such as the right balance of suspense and romance; great main and secondary characters, even the bad guy who was pure evil; a fast-paced plot that never failed to entertain; and dialogue that had me laughing or smiling unless Shae or James were talking about their pasts and then I couldn't help but empathize with them both.

Right from the beginning, I was hooked to this story due to the opening line, because I wanted to know whether Shae would get her way; and due to the teasing banter between Shae and the rest of the firefighters of Station Seventeen. They're close and have a bond as tight as family, and I absolutely enjoyed every moment they interacted. As Shae doesn't have many people in her life, but the crew are there for her when she needs them. Furthermore, the dialogue was well-written, riveting and intense due to the main characters back stories that had me sympathizing with both Shae and James; and due to the investigation and how far the bad guy is willing to go to get his way. It is also told from not only the hero and heroine's point-of-views, but also the bad guy and when the story was told from his point-of-view, it was spine-tingling and had me gripping my kindle with worry for the main characters, because of how far the bad guy was willing to go not to get caught.

Both the main characters entertained me from start to finish due to their growing relationship; the investigation that takes them in a dangerous direction; and their heartbreaking back stories, which once I learnt more about Shae, I could understand why she takes risks. What happened to someone she was close to was a tragedy, and shows she should live every day like it's her last, because one never knows what the day will bring. While James, it's understandable how his back story has led him to be a man that follows the rules, because his life could have gone a different way, if he continued to allow those that were supposed to protect him to lead him down the path he was taking. I also liked how protective he was of Shae when the case began to unravel and that he would do anything to keep her safe, because he knew how dangerous the bad guy could be, considering the connection he had to the bad guy.

Overall, Ms. Kincaid has penned a brilliant second book for her Station Seventeen series where the chemistry was intense and instantaneous the moment Shae and James came face-to-face for the first time in this story and spilled over onto the pages in sizzling sex scenes that illustrated just how good these two are together. The way this story ended had me on the edge-of-my seat due to what the main characters go through when they go up against the bad guy. Even the best and most thorough plans can fail, and I liked how far James was willing to go to protect Shae, because if he hadn't been, then things could have turned out a lot differently. Good thing James is so sneaky and is good enough to outthink the bad guy. I would highly recommend Deep Burn by Kimberly Kincaid, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Jennifer Bernard, Susan Stoker, Lynn Raye Harris or Cristin Harber.

BLURB
Firefighter Shae McCullough is all-in, all the time. When her reckless response at a fire earns her a two-week penance filing paperwork for the arson investigation unit, the rules and routines are enough to bore her senseless. But the discovery of a possible arson at a murder scene has her instincts fired up, and when Shae is assigned to assist Remington’s elite intelligence unit with their investigation, she’s all too ready to jump in with both boots first.

To tech and surveillance expert James Capelli, logic isn’t just a job requirement, it’s a way of life. He’s less than thrilled to work with Shae, whose impulsiveness threatens his sanity and whose curves threaten his composure. Despite their differences, they uncover a case bigger than anyone could have expected—along with an attraction that burns deep.

But this killer is no stranger, and Capelli’s got a dark past. Can he and Shae outsmart a ruthless murderer, or will his secrets bury them both?

REVIEW: ABANDONED by RHONDA POLLERO

Abandoned
Finding Justice #2
By: Rhonda Bollero
Releasing June 6th, 2017
Forever

In Abandoned (Finding Justice #2) by Rhonda Pollero, Emma McKinley is determined to learn what happened twenty years ago when her father assassinated the President of the United States, which is why she's moved to the town where the assassination occurred. Except with someone sending her mysterious letters and the threats she's receiving, there's only one person she can turn to. But in turning to the sheriff, Conner Kavanaugh for help, Emma will have to tell him everything about her past. Will the sheriff still be willing to help, or will he turn his back on her just as so many others did long ago?

This story had all the makings of a 5-Star read such as the wonderful characters, great plots twists that had me wanting to know what else the hero and heroine would go through to achieve their happy ever after, and then I got to the end and the trouble the main characters face. It just didn't work for me, especially with the bad guys being so meticulous when it came to the assassination of the president, and yet, so careless when it came to silencing one of the main characters. However, in saying that, I really enjoyed the rest of this book, especially the way it started, because what happens sets the fast-pace of the story and had me wanting to discover more about why the heroine's dad did what he did. Yet, it was chapter one where things really became exciting due to how the hero and heroine meet. Certainly, Emma shows Conner she can take care of herself.

Both the main characters are really good and I loved the dialogue whether it was intense due to their back stories or teasing when they're actually getting along. Certainly, the moment the hero and heroine meet drew me into this story even more, as Conner thinks he's doing the heroine a favor, and yet, she has this very stay-away-from-me-I-don't-need-your-help vibe and I liked what she did to warn him away, although it could have gotten her into serious trouble considering his profession.

Moreover, the heroine is strong and brave the way she's able to handle everything thrown her way including the things being sent to her, which make her even more determined to discover the truth of her father's motives. I also liked how she proved her worth as a lawyer, because her skills show she's a fighter and never gives up on anyone or anything. Yet, what I liked most about the heroine is how she helped various townspeople turn their lives around. It reveals her kind and caring nature and illustrates that she likes to see the best in people, despite what has happened in their pasts. And besides, she has the means to help them, so why shouldn't she? While Conner, he's confident, a good guy that would do anything to help someone, and I liked how he gained Emma's trust, even though it isn't easy because of the secrets she's keeping. I also liked how far he was willing to go to protect the heroine, as she needs the support of someone when things begin to happen that are beyond what Emma can handle.

Overall, Ms. Pollero has penned a really good read in this book, although I was disappointed by the ending with the bad guys. However, I loved how things worked out for the hero and heroine, because Emma needed Conner after her loss and I loved how she was willing to help him solve his problems when it came to his brother's imprisonment and the custody battle with his ex-wife. I would recommend Abandoned by Rhonda Pollero, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Anne Calhoun, D.D Ayres, Incy Black or Cate Beauman.

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: THE DOCTOR'S REDEMPTION by VICTORIA JAMES

Enter to Win a $15 Amazon Gift Card

The Doctor's Redemption
Shadow Creek, Montana #3
By: Victoria James
Releasing May 22nd, 2017
Entangled Publishing (Bliss)

In The Doctor's Redemption (Shadow Creek, Montana #3) by Victoria James, Doctor Luke Thomson has come to Shadow Creek for a reason and that's to confront the past and apologize to those whose lives he believed he turned upside down. He knows getting close to Gwen Bailey is reckless, especially because of the secret he's keeping, but there's no denying their chemistry. However, when Gwen learns the truth about his past, will she be able to forgive him for what he did, or will their chance at happy ever after be ripped away?

Ms. James is an author whose books I could read one after the other and never grow tired of her stories, because she writes incredible characters with back stories that more often than not tug at my heart-strings; and stories with fast-paced plots that hook me from the very beginning and leave me with the biggest smile at the end, because of what the hero and heroine have to overcome to be together, and certainly, this story was no different. The way this book started with the prologue sets the fast-pace of this story, and had me reading quickly, determined to discover what the hero is going to do. He has so much guilt that he needs to absolve himself of, if he's to be completely happy, and the only way that's going to happen is to confront his past.

As for the dialogue, it was well-written, spell-binding and had me hooked, as it illustrates the power of love and forgiveness and the beauty of redemption and hope. When Gwen learns what Luke has been keeping from her, will she be able to forgive him when he had ample opportunity to explain his reasons for being in Shadow Creek? Moreover, the dialogue was a wonderful combination of intense due to the main characters back stories and teasing due to this couple's growing relationship. Their banter definitely ups the sexual tension, as Luke does his best to resist Gwen. However, Gwen doesn't make things easy for the hero to resist her. She knows what she wants, and after suppressing her needs and desires for the last five years to take care of her family after tragedy struck, she's determined to get everything she wants -- love and happiness. The question is -- is Luke the right guy for her?

Both the main characters were enthralling, and I loved every moment the hero and heroine interacted. Sometimes, it was fun and amusing and at others, it was deep and had me wanting to cry, because of their in-more-ways-than-one connection. Luke knows he's risking his relationship with Gwen by not revealing his secret, and it made me empathize with him. When would he realize that what happened years ago wasn't his fault? Will the secondary characters be able to help him overcome his guilt? Furthermore, Luke is strong and brave for the reason he's in Shadow Creek, and I could understand his need to face the past.

While Gwen, she's been through a lot with having lost two people she loved and then feeling like she had to be responsible for her family when things got tough, so it's understandable why she finally wants to do something for herself. As her family is finally starting to heal from their loss and finding their second chance at happiness, so isn't it time she did the same? Also, I liked how kind and caring she is and the effort she goes to in getting to know Luke. Will he accept her invitations? Then there's the nickname the heroine had for the hero, and I liked that he felt comfortable with her calling him it, because it certainly fit with his order whenever he came into Gwen's shop.

Overall, Ms. James has delivered an incredible read in this book where the chemistry was intense and the ending left me completely content, despite the fact that I cried when Luke explained his reason for being in Shadow Creek and was met with various reactions from Gwen and her family. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, because readers discover how far Luke and Gwen have come in their relationship. Does Luke finally believe that love at first sight exists? I would highly recommend The Doctor's Redemption by Victoria James, if you enjoy a story with fun banter, wonderful characters in both the main and secondary, and a plot where the characters have some tough obstacles to overcome to be together. I would also recommend this book and the other stories of this series, if you enjoy books by authors Melanie Shawn, Noelle Adams, Jennifer Shirk or Samantha Chase.

REVIEW: THE FAVOR by BLAIRE EDENS

The Favor
By: Blaire Edens
Releasing May 22nd, 2017
Entangled Publishing

In The Favor by Blaire Edens, after the disaster her marriage turned out to be, Anna Bishop believes she's better off alone. Yet, she'll do anything to make her little boy's life happier, which means accepting help from her best friend's brother, Clark, who comes to her young boy's birthday party dressed as a superhero. However, coming through for her son isn't the only problem Clark solves for her when he proposes they get married to make sure her ex-husband doesn't get full custody of their son. Will Clark be able to break through Anna's walls to show her that not all men are like her ex, or will her need for independence after her disastrous marriage send her running from the one person that can make her completely happy again?

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Edens, and I absolutely enjoyed it due to the main characters, the bond between the hero and the heroine's son, the dialogue because the heroine is stubborn and isn't ready to put her trust in another man after her ex and the way this ended that illustrates love is worth fighting for, especially when someone's words help the characters realize it. The way this story started had me sympathizing with the heroine, because her ex-husband is a complete jerk that loves to lord his power over her and the fact that he has money and the means to take her son away from her. However, it was from the moment where the hero entered the story where things became very interesting, as he stands up for the heroine while creating a major problem for her when it comes to the custody battle for her son. Why couldn't Clark realize that what he does will get them both in trouble?

Both the main characters were really good, and I could understand why the heroine feels the way she does about relationships. Her ex did a real number on her, and she craves her independence to make certain that she can take care of herself and her son without needing another man in her life to take care of her. I also liked how good of a mom she is and that she would do anything for her son, even if it means having to marry Clark to secure her son's future. While Clark, he hasn't had it easy and believes he doesn't deserve love, family and happiness in his life after what happened to his best friend. He blames himself, which is understandable and had me feeling sorry for the hero, because there was nothing he could have done to save his friend from being as hurt as he was. Nor can he take away his friend's suffering. However, what I liked most about the hero is how he proved to the heroine she could trust him with everything he does for her and her son; a young boy that he ends up forming a special bond with.

Overall, this book was a delightful read where the dialogue was easy to follow and had me smiling at times, the chemistry was entertaining and the ending left me believing the heroine was lucky to have found a guy as great as Clark. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up brilliantly with how it links back to the beginning of the story and how it reveals how far Anna and Clark have come in regards to love, family, happiness. I would recommend The Favor by Blaire Edens, if you enjoy the sister's best friend trope or books by authors Rachel Harris, Victoria James, Sonya Weiss and  Coleen Kwan.
