In Lethal Lies (Blood Brothers #2) by Rebecca Zanetti, using herself as bait to rattle a serial killer into making a mistake probably wasn't Anya Best's finest moment, but if it helps her put the serial killer that murdered her sister behind bars than her recklessness will be worth it. Luckily, she's not alone in her efforts and has help from private investigator, Heath Jones. Except he has his own battle to fight when it comes to his past. Can Anya convince Heath to trust her with his secrets, so they can hopefully put the past to rest and have their shot at happy ever after?

Romantic suspense is a genre I read a lot of, and after finishing this book, which is the first story I've read by Ms. Zanetti and a story that totally blew me away with its incredible array of characters, splendid chemistry between the main characters and well-written dialogue; dialogue that was full of intensity and ominous moments that had me wondering whether Anya and Heath would win against all that they face, I can't wait to read the next book of this series due to how this story ended. However, let's not think about Denver's story yet, and instead, get to talking about this one, which had me intrigued from the prologue. As Heath has a very interesting back story that has made him and his two friends -- Ryker and Denver -- targets by the people that want them back because of how extraordinary they are.

Both the main characters had me enthralled, as Anya provides a real challenge for Heath. Since she won't back down and agree to what he wants her to do when it comes to her safety, and instead, will do whatever it takes to make certain her sister's killer is stopped. Seriously, Anya is strong and brave by what she does to get the killer's attention, even though it shows she's quite reckless as well. Then again, grief can make a person do things they wouldn't normally do and not worry about the consequences; consequences that put Heath and his friends in more danger than they're already in. Furthermore, I couldn't help but sympathize with the heroine's situation. She turned to the one person she knew could help her, and now she feels guilty for what happened. How could she not, knowing what the serial killer did? So, I could understand why she was so driven to right the wrong.

While Heath, he and his friends have an interesting skill set that comes in handy when dealing with the kind of cases they deal with, especially going after a serial killer that will do anything to get what he wants. Including killing those in the way of him achieving his objective and causing as much destruction as possible, which is proven towards the end. Moreover, I liked the bond the hero shared with Denver and Ryker. They might not be related by blood, but they consider themselves blood brothers and would do anything for each other, no matter how high the risk. Can they together find the person they're looking for, especially with their heightened senses and being so tech-savvy? But what I liked most of all about the hero was how protective he was of Anya and how far he was willing to go to keep her safe. No way was he going to allow anyone to take Anya away from him.

Overall, Ms. Zanetti has penned an incredible read in this book that delves a tiny bit into the paranormal world because Heath, Ryker and Denver were genetically engineered and can be classified as 'super soldiers', if they were still under the rule of those that want them back or are determined to see them dead. How will things turn out? Will those that want them use any means necessary to get at Heath and his friends? The way this story ended had me flabbergasted because of what the serial killer did to achieve his endgame, but left me completely content with how things ended up between Heath and Anya. No way were they going to let Heath's past and the trouble he and his friends are facing keep them from having a future together. I would recommend Lethal Lies by Rebecca Zanetti, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the sexy protector trope, a story with a touch of paranormal weaved into it, or books by authors Kaylea Cross, Katie Reus, or Christine Feehan.

  1. I 😍 Rebecca Zanetti's books. The first one of this series was really good, but Denver is my favorite hero of the series. Hope his book is released soon after this one.

  2. I loved all three men in this book and what I'm really looking forward to is the ultimate showdown between the men and the people after them.
