Playing house just got real…
When Joya Bennett wakes up after her brother’s wedding, half-naked and lying next to her lifelong crush, she’s mortified. OMG, did she try to jump his bones? Worse, did she succeed? Intending to lay low and housesit for her brother until the embarrassment fades, she sneaks away before he wakes up.

What she didn’t plan on is having company.
Lincoln Fisher doesn’t do relationships, but if he did, his friend’s little sister would be the one to tie him down. Good thing Joya had one too many drinks during the reception or he’d have crossed a line. Her brother would kill him if he found out all the places Linc wanted to kiss the sexy, auburn-haired beauty.
And now they’re stuck in the same house. For two weeks.
She’s off-limits. And he needs to keep it that way, even if the heat building between them is hot enough to blow off the roof…

Each book in the Wedding Favors series is a stand-alone, full-length story that can be enjoyed out of order.

Book #1 Bridesmaid Blues

“What are you doing?” Linc asked from somewhere above her.
“Fixing a leak.” She shimmied deeper into the cabinet and adjusted the width of the wrench opening, then latched it onto a section of the pipe. “It just needs to be tightened a little.”
“Do you know what you’re doing?” Though not condescending, his tone did hold a note of doubt.
“Of course I know what I’m doing.” Okay, maybe she didn’t know the exact procedure for this job, but it was a tiny leak, not quantum physics. “I got this.”
With all her force, she torqued the wrench. That might have actually worked if the pipe hadn’t slipped. The mouth of the wrench lost its hold on the metal connector and slammed into the valve directly behind it, knocking the knob off at the neck. Cold water jettisoned from the opening, dousing her torso and filling her open mouth.
Her shriek was quickly cut off by her sputtering coughs. In one swift move, Linc grabbed her legs and dragged her out from under the sink, away from the geyser-like gush. She lay on her back beside him while he fought the powerful spray until successfully stopping the flow.
Water dripped from her hair and T-shirt, pooling on the floor as she climbed to her feet. Sitting on the floor, equally as drenched, Linc leaned against the cabinet door. “You got this, huh?” He smirked and rose to feet. “Might I suggest shutting off the water first as a precautionary measure?”
She swiped her hand across her face, dislodging the droplets from her lashes. “Good idea.”
Being embarrassed took a backseat to her complete inability to focus on anything other than the wet T-shirt clinging to his well-defined chest. Hot, owned a rescue dog, and he could fix things—it was almost too much to resist.
Without warning, he peeled his white T-shirt off and turned to ring it out in the sink. Sweet Jesus, if she made it through these next two weeks without attacking him it would be a miracle. Each muscle flexed as he rung the water from his shirt, and it took all her willpower not to reach out and stroke the glistening planes.
When he pivoted toward her again, her eyes darted to his face, hoping he hadn’t noticed her visually chugging his hotness. “Why don’t you go change?” His gaze dipped to her breasts, lingered, and then drifted back to her eyes. “Or not; I’m good either way.”
She glanced down and heat flooded her cheeks. Like a thin layer of tissue paper, her T-shirt lay plastered to her body, revealing every detail of her breasts. She slapped her arms across her chest and spun, exiting the room without a reply or backward glance.
A simple household chore, that’s all she’d wanted to do. Instead, she’d ended up in a wet T-shirt contest, and from Linc’s expression, she’d won hands-down. He’d made it crystal clear that he didn’t mind her flashing him. And she certainly hadn’t minded his brief bout of nakedness.
She closed the door behind her, inhaled, and then exhaled, forcing her nerves to calm. So what? He’d seen her boobs, kind of. For all she knew, he’d seen them last night. No big deal. Just plain old breasts, that’s all they were, not the lost Ark of the Covenant. He was probably used to it. There was absolutely no reason she should be embarrassed or awkward around him now. Actually, “you’re welcome” might be an even better response.
Heading to the bathroom, she shook off the familiar stirrings she called the Linc Effect. This didn’t have to be weird. They were adults now. She was completely in control of her emotions and actions—right? Sure, they might have slept together, but that didn’t mean something more serious was brewing.
As a matter of fact, her brother had made it perfectly clear—every chance he got—that Linc wasn’t the right guy for her. Anytime he came up in conversation, Kyle was quick to counter with some fact about his friend’s bachelor life, making it sound as if it would be a cold day in hell before Linc would give up his freedom.
Not that she was looking for that level of commitment. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t have something in the now, though, right?

Dear Jane
Animal Attraction #1
By: Marissa Clarke
Releasing January 9, 2017
Entangled Lovestruck

BLURB:
Jane Dixon is a dating disaster. Flammable tablecloths and broken arms are just a typical evening for her unlucky companions. No wonder Jane never gets past a first date. But luckily her co-worker and new bff says he’s got loads of friends who’d date her more than once. If only she could stop thinking about how much fun he was to hang out with. And she’d never dropped a bucket of ice on his junk. Win.

All attorney Eric Blackwell has to do to make junior partner is not screw anything up for six weeks, which seems like a slam dunk until he finds himself matchmaker to the office “One Date Wonder” aka the boss’s daughter. It’s hard to stay focused when setting up the hottest girl he’s ever met with everyone but himself. Maybe he could just set her up with all the wrong men, and keep his hands off his new friend… Yeah. His promotion is toast.

After dropping off his briefcase in his office, Eric made his way to the end of the hallway and knocked on Jane’s door, flowers in hand.
He felt ridiculous. Sort of like he had before his prom in high school, only Jane wasn’t going to dance with him and the flowers were from someone else. Still, this was a chance to actually speak to her and that was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. He was about to make her day with a clearly expensive bouquet of flowers from another man. His chest tightened. So did his grip on the vase. He was beginning to think pathetic wasn’t a strong enough descriptor.
“Come in,” she called.
When he opened the door, she didn’t look up from her computer screen, clearly engrossed in whatever she was reading. Brow furrowed, she tapped the end of a pen on the side of her monitor. Holy shit, she was beautiful—intensely focused with the sun from the wall of windows making her hair shine like gold. He’d never been this close to her before and found himself a little overwhelmed, which was ridiculous. He was head of an entire team at one of the most prestigious law firms in New York City. Nothing should overwhelm him. Get it together, Blackwell.
When she finally looked up, her eyes widened and she pushed to her feet behind the huge, shiny desk. “I’m sorry. I thought you were Marcie dropping something off.”
“Well, I am… Not Marcie, but dropping something off.” Great. Just great. He groaned inwardly at how ridiculous his first words ever spoken to this woman were.
Her large blue eyes flitted from his face to the flowers and back again.
“These are for you,” he said, awkwardly holding them out.
“Oh…um…” She circled her desk, moving closer. “Wow. Thanks.”
“I’m Eric Blackwell.” He cleared his throat. “From Mergers and Acquisitions.”
She smiled, flashing straight, white teeth. “Yeah, I know.”
She knew? His heart hammered harder, which seemed impossible. He cleared his throat again. “Marcie was swamped and asked me to deliver these for her.”
“Oh…” She glanced at the flowers, her smile fading slightly.
“Yeah, she had a bunch of stuff come in at once, and I was already heading this way, so…”
She nodded. “That was nice of you. Thanks.” With her hair pulled into a knot on the back of her head, her eyes looked huge.
Eric placed the vase on her desk, taking a deep breath. Shit. She even smelled good. Maybe it was the flowers. “These are nice. You must have an admirer.” And his morbid curiosity wanted to know who it was so he could direct his irrational jealousy appropriately. He pulled the envelope from the arrangement and handed it to her, hoping not only to extend his time this close to her but also get some intel.
He gritted his teeth as she pulled out the card. This level of interest was incontestable proof that he was working way too hard and playing way too little. Since his break up with Shannon almost a year ago, he’d done nothing but work. No wonder being this close to a woman was the highlight of his day. He had to fix this. Quick.
No. He needed to hold tight until after he made junior partner. That had been his goal from the start. It was important he get that promotion. The money would be nice, but really, it was all about the security, something he never had growing up.
Jane’s face clouded as she studied the card. “Who does this kind of thing? What kind of…” She waved a hand in an exasperated motion. “What kind of jerk uses a romantic gesture as a way to deliver a message like this. Really?”
And here he’d thought dropping off the flowers would associate him with something positive in her mind. Today sucked.
“I thought I’d gotten a date right for once, you know what I mean?”
Nope. Not a clue. How could a woman like this—obviously smart since she worked at one of the premier law firms in NYC, and gorgeous on top of that—get anything wrong on a date? Eric had an overwhelming urge to hunt down and beat the shit out of the prick who sent those flowers.
When she turned, her eyes brimmed with tears. Not the stream down your face kind, but controlled and held in. Oh God, not tears. They made him feel helpless and “holdy.” That’s what his mother had called it. His solution for tears was to hug, which he absolutely under no circumstances could do to Jane Dixon. The image of holding her soft body against his harder one, made him… well, harder. He clasped his hands behind his back to keep from taking Jane in his arms. “I’m sorry. I…”
She blinked, pushing the tears back before they could fully form. “No, I’m sorry. You were just doing something nice for Marcie. You had no idea you’d been thrown in the room with the One-date Wonder.”
“Maybe I should—” He stepped backward toward the door.
She threw her hands up. “Seriously, how I can screw it up every time? Every. Single. Time.” She paced to the edge of her desk. “Do you know that I haven’t had a second date since I graduated law school?”
His day had just gone from pathetic to surreal. All he could do was shake his head.
She paced to the potted plant in the corner and then back to her desk. “Oh yeah. Loads of first dates. Never a second. And you know what?”
Hopefully that was rhetorical, because no way in hell could he possibly guess what would come out of her mouth next.
“I’m so done. I’m never going to find a guy to ask me out twice. I should swear off men forever. Men suck. Dating sucks.” She took a shuddering breath. “I suck.” And then one of the tears she’d held back this whole time escaped—only one—as she stood perfectly still and silent.
As if on auto-pilot, he crossed to her and folded her in his arms like he’d done with his mother so many times in his life. This wasn’t anything like those hugs, though, and his body made that fact painfully clear as she circled her arms around his waist under his jacket and leaned her cheek against his chest. And it was definitely her and not the flowers that smelled good.
After a few seconds, Eric’s heart hammered so hard he was certain Jane could hear it. There wouldn’t be enough lifeboats in the world to save Operation Smooth Sailing if he continued to rub his hands up and down his boss’s daughter’s back. Reluctantly, he loosened his grip, pulled away to create some space between them, and gave her shoulder an awkward, platonic pat.
“Sorry.” She straightened his lapel and brushed it, stepping back to arm’s length. “I…” She took a deep breath. “…got a little emotional on you there.”
Eric remained frozen in place, only a couple of feet from her, completely clueless what to do or say. He needed a how-to manual for this kind of thing.
She leaned against her desk, facing him. “I’m so frustrated.”
Ditto.
“I mean, why can’t a guy just go out on a date without an agenda or strategy? And why are women held to a different standard?”
Rhetorical. Please let that be rhetorical. He tried to look somewhere else, but couldn’t draw his gaze away from her hands as she fiddled with the necklace that disappeared into her cleavage behind her silk blouse.
“If a guy spills ice water in his date’s lap, she wouldn’t hold it against him forever. She wouldn’t send him flowers with a Dear John letter attached. Am I right?”
Ice water in his lap might be just the ticket right now, Eric decided, finally pulling his gaze away from the freckle on her neck peeking out from under her silk collar. “No. Uh… I mean, yes. Yes, you’re right.” Right in so many ways it made him dizzy. Coming to her office had been a mistake. It had to be the ten months of abstinence in combination with the ridiculous hours he’d been putting in leading up to this merger, and the stress of blowing his promotion this close to his annual review that had him in this state.
“I guess I’m just scared I’ll never find a guy who’ll go out with me more than once. It’s kind of a joke in my family. My three brothers are married and I can’t even get a second date.”
“Maybe it’s just that you’re going out with the wrong guys. I know lots of men who would give anything to go out with someone like you.”
“You do?” Her eyebrows rose, her expression hopeful.
“Sure.” He could think of one in particular, but sadly there was that non-fraternization clause he’d signed when he was hired.
“Ohmygod, you’re the best, Eric!” She held out her hand. “You’re on.”
What the hell? He accepted her extended hand, and she gave it a vigorous handshake.
“I’m free on Fridays after seven.” She scribbled on a Post-It note on her desk. “Give one of your friends my number, and we’ll set up a time.”
He took the slip of paper. “O—kay.”
She smiled. It was a huge smile that lit up her entire face, like the sun coming out. “Great. You’re the best. Really, you are.”
Oh yeah. He was the best for sure. The best at mucking everything up. He finally had Jane’s phone number and now he was tasked with finding another man to give it to. Perfect.
“Oh. And I have another favor to ask.”
Maybe this could turn around.
She held up a finger and wagged it. “No lawyers. I will never date one. Ever. I’d rather stay single the rest of my life.”
Nope. No turning this disaster around.
Numb, and not exactly sure how he’d gone from up-and-coming attorney to flower delivery boy to Jane Dixon’s personal dating service, Eric shuffled out the door and down the hallway to the safety of his office. This time, he closed the door.

REVIEW: BEST OF LUCK by JILL SANDERS

Best of Luck
Lucky #3
By: Jill Sanders
Releasing February 14th, 2017
Grayton Press

In Best of Luck (Lucky #3) by Jill Sanders, stung by the rejection of the only man she's ever loved, Amber decided to follow her dreams of becoming a Hollywood star. Now she's a household name, hounded by paparazzi and headed home for the first time in two years to film her next movie. Confronting the past isn't easy, especially when she has a stalker, but if there's one thing Amber comes to realize while she's home, is that there's more to life than her career. Can she finally land the man of her dreams?

Thomas 'Tom' Albert Jr. has fought his feelings for Amber for far too long, but finds it even harder to do so now that she's returned home and more beautiful than ever. But with her being his best friend's sister, there's no way he can make a move on her. However, it's impossible to avoid Amber, and when things start to heat up between them, Tom finds himself in for the fight of his life. Not only to win Amber's heart, but also to keep her safe from a stalker.

The brother's best friend trope is one of the best -- I think -- and Ms. Sanders has penned a fantastic read in this third story of her Lucky series. The prologue sets the fast-pace of this story, and hooked me immediately with the relationship between Amber and Tom. There's serious chemistry between them, yet it's understandable why the hero does what he does. She needs time to achieve her dreams. No way can he hold her back, no matter how much he wants her.

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to this couple's complicated past relationship, and although this is a contemporary romance, there's a dash of suspense to it, due to Amber's stalker. Who is Amber's stalker? Is it someone she knows? Why are they stalking her? Amber is strong, brave and I loved how determined she was to make Tom realize they're meant to be together. Indeed, she doesn't make it easy for the hero to be able to resist her with her persistence. Also, she's done well for herself in chasing her dreams, which is proven by how successful she is. It seems she can't go anywhere without paparazzi stalking her or fans wanting to get the star experience.

While Tom, he's hard-working and focused in what he did for his family's company. He's managed to turn things around, and his measure of success is proven by what he's been doing with Albert's Furniture. However, it was the hero's emotions and reactions that hooked me to his point-of-view. How could he think Amber would ever betray him? She's one of the most open and honest people with him, except for not revealing the secret she's keeping until a time when it's absolutely necessary. But what I liked most about the hero is what he allowed the heroine's brother to do to him, because it proved how much he loved Amber to the secondary characters.

Overall, this was a really good book where the strong romance between the two main characters showed how right they are for each other, and that theirs is a happily ever after that was meant to be, no matter how long it took the pair to find their way back to each other. The way this story ended totally took me by surprise when I finally discovered the person stalking Amber, but the way Tom was there for Amber had me smiling, as to did the decision the heroine made about her career and the meaning behind a certain piece of Tom grandmother's jewelry. I would recommend Best of Luck by Jill Sanders, if you enjoy the second chance romance or brother's best friend tropes.

OVERALL RATING:

BLURB:
Amber has only ever wanted one thing in life. To be a star. When that dream has finally come true, an old friend ends up getting in the way and friendships may end up jeopardizing everything. Now in a time when privacy is a thing of her past, where paparazzi follow her every move, she’ll need to decide what’s more important to her, because it’s more than just her career on the line.

Tom has struggled for years with his feelings towards Amber, his best friend’s little sister. The woman has been driving him crazy since… well, forever. Now that she’s on every TV set, every movie poster in the country, it’s even harder to avoid looking into those sexy blue eyes and not remembering her passion. Especially when she’ll be spending the next few months back in Denver filming her latest movie. This time, Tom may not be able to hold back the sparks that fly between them.

REVIEW: SWEET RESOLVE by JILL SANDERS

Sweet Resolve
The Lucky Series #2
By: Jill Sanders
Released June 7th, 2016
Montlake Romance

In Sweet Resolve (The Lucky Series #2) by Jill Sanders, Amy Walker is determined to make partner at the real estate firm where she works, but it seems she's not the only one in with a chance at receiving something she's worked so hard for. Even worse her competition is her junior high tormentor, Logan Miller. Will Amy get her promotion, or will she end up discovering there's more to life than work?

The enemies to lovers trope is one I've read more and more of lately, and I've got to say that the ones I have read recently have not disappointed me. The prologue starts off this story really well and introduced me -- as a reader -- to the struggles Amy faced at the hands of Logan when they were in junior high. Why is he such a complete jerk? Is there something wrong with her that makes him choose her to torment? However, it was chapter one where this story had me completely hooked due this couple's growing relationship, which starts off full of animosity from Amy's point of view. There's something about Logan that gets under her skin. Can she forgive him for the past? Or will she finally get her revenge?

As for the main characters, I loved both Amy and Logan, but it wasn't only the main characters that made this story a worthwhile read. Indeed, the secondary characters made this story captivating too, especially Amy's best friend with her suggestions on how to get back at the hero for everything he did in the past to make her life miserable. Furthermore, Amy is strong and brave in the way she finally confronts the past, and the difficult decisions she has to make when it came to Logan. Should she let bygones be bygones, or give the hero a little payback to make herself feel better because of what Logan does to her when they first come face-to-face in fourteen years. Moreover, she's also successful, smart and worked hard to get to where she is in her life. She definitely deserves the promotion, and it doesn't seem fair that Logan has a bit of an advantage over her. Yet, in saying that, it's good that she has some competition.

While Logan, he's worked hard for all that he's done in his career, and proves to Amy that he's changed. That he's not the same boy that teased her in the past. Indeed, he's trying to make up for all that he did. There were reasons why he teased her and they weren't to make her feel bad about herself. It just seemed he came off as a jerk when he didn't mean to. Moreover, I liked how these two really challenged each other both personally and professionally, especially because any teasing banter between the pair upped the sexual tension between them and illustrated that second chances are worth fighting for.

Overall, Ms. Sanders has penned a wonderful read in this second book of her Lucky series where the romance did justice to this couple's intense chemistry. The way this story ended took me by surprise with what happens to Logan, and Logan's mom made me laugh a little by embarrassing him, but it was who got the partnership that I was really intrigued to discover. Was it Amy or Logan? Or did the hero's uncle end up going with a totally different option? In the end, I found I was smiling due to the decision made. I would recommend Sweet Resolve by Jill Sanders, if you enjoy the enemies to lovers trope or if you enjoy books by authors such as Marina Adair, Catherine Bybee or Samantha Chase.

OVERALL RATING:

BLURB:
Amy Walker is steps away from her perfect job. The day she makes partner at her real estate firm will be the happiest of her life, second only to the day in junior high when her tormentor, Logan Miller, finally moved away.

But fate has a warped sense of humor, because Logan is back. In her town, in her office, gunning for the same promotion. Worse, the man is sinfully hot. But that won’t keep Amy from exacting the revenge he richly deserves…

Logan had reasons for acting wild in his youth, but he still regrets the way he treated Amy. Especially once he’s sharing an office with the smart, self-controlled beauty. For one thing, she’s got a wicked sense of payback. For another, he’s realized there’s something he wants much more than a promotion. And that’s to melt the ice he helped form around her heart all those years ago and to prove that loving thine enemy can be the ultimate happy ending.

In Your Arms
For Your Love #2
By: Shannyn Schroeder
Releasing December 27, 2016
Zebra Shout

In In Your Arms (For your Love #2) by Shannyn Schroeder, for years Emma has strived to be an independent woman and not follow in her mother's footsteps when it comes to relationships and barely being able to take care of herself let alone her family. But the moment Sean O'Malley comes to her rescue when her car breaks down, Emma realizes she's about to fall into the same pattern she always does in picking unsuitable men. Can she resist falling for the bad boy; or will Sean find a way to prove to Emma she's misjudged him, so they can have a future together?

Having enjoyed the first book of this series, I couldn't wait to dive into this book to read more about the O'Malley family, and I've got to say that this story was engaging, fast-paced and I loved the obstacles this couple had to overcome to achieve their happy ever after. Right from the beginning, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the heroine. Her family aren't the most reliable, and it made me sympathize with her because brothers are supposed to love and want to protect their sisters, but Emma's brother was a selfish jerk that -- it seemed -- didn't care about anyone but himself.

As for the dialogue, it was intense and a tad emotional due to the main characters back stories, what happens to one of the children that Emma teaches, what lengths Sean will go to in protecting the heroine and the obstacles these two have to overcome to achieve their happy ever after. Growing up, Emma never had stability and it's something she's promised herself she'll always have by working hard and having her own place to come home to. So, it's no wonder she has doubts about Sean because he has no job security, lives somewhere he shouldn't at his age, and doesn't want a serious relationship like Emma does.

I loved Sean. He doesn't misrepresent himself and is pretty much the kind of guy that lives by the words 'what you see is what you get'. Yes, he's definitely not the kind of guy Emma is wanting for her future, yet I  was cheering for him to be able to change her mind the more of this book I read. Because he had what it takes to win her heart by accepting the good advice of the secondary characters and by making changes in his life. Of which, I thought, the changes he planned to make were really good and proved to Emma how much he wanted her in his life by wanting to be a better man for her. While Emma, she's strong, brave I liked how much she's achieved throughout her life, considering she didn't have the easiest of times with her family and in school. However, she did frustrate me at times when it came to dealing with her family and her whole mission to find her future man when she had Sean. She gave into her mother's demands way too easy. Indeed, she let the woman take advantage of her, instead of saying 'enough was enough.'

Overall, Ms. Schroeder has penned another really good novel for this series, which encompassed some really hot, passionate sex scenes that prove it isn't easy for Emma to resist Sean, even though she believes he's not the right man for her. The way this story ended had me cheering for this couple, as Sean does his best to win Emma back by revealing what his future holds in store for him and how she makes him want to be a better man, so they can eventually have the kind of future the heroine wants with the man she loves - marriage and kids. I would recommend In Your Arms by Shannyn Schroeder, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope; or a story where the hero and heroine become friends that end up as friends with benefits before they realize how right they are for each other.

BLURB:
A KNIGHT IN SHINING LEATHER…
Sean O'Malley has never tried to hide who he is. He shows it in the motorcycle thrumming between the legs of his tight jeans…the shaggy hair that falls in his gorgeous eyes…the wicked gleam in his smile when he asks Emma out for a drink. Sean is a rebel, a bad boy, and a ton of fun: exactly the kind of guy she's sworn off forever.

Emma isn't just the prim kindergarten teacher she appears to be. And somehow Sean can tell. As soon as he pulls up to her overheated car he knows that a fast bike and a cold beer will fix her rotten day better than compliments or a bubble bath. Her straitlaced exterior and her wild heart light him up. But Emma wants to escape her past and settle down—and if her desk jockey dates don't understand where she comes from, at least she doesn't worry about them bringing her back.

One weekend of intense connection can't change the paths Sean and Emma have chosen. But with a little space to be themselves together, maybe the rest of the world can wait...

A little more than ten minutes later, she was on her way back. The sight of her knocked the wind from him. Snug jeans and fitted tank top covered her, and she had a sweatshirt tied at her waist. She’d traded the heels for a pair of sneakers. Her hair was now completely down and long brown waves flew around in the breeze. For a moment, he considered that she’d lied about it being her mom’s place because he didn’t know any moms who dressed like that. But her bag was overstuffed, he assumed with her clothes.
He pushed off the bike. “That was fast.”
She offered a crooked smile. “I really need a drink. The radiator hose was the last in a line of things ruining my day.”
“Hop on and you can tell me all about it over a beer. Or wine. Or whatever.”
“Tonight’s a whiskey night.”
Sean liked the sound of that. They mounted the bike and she put the helmet on. Before he started the engine, he asked, “Any place in mind?”
“No. You pick.”
Since he normally didn’t drink in the area, he drove closer to his neighborhood and parked beside his favorite dive bar. It was dark and relatively quiet. They could shoot pool or play darts or just listen to music. He helped Emma off the bike and locked his helmet down. Then he led her into the bar and directly to a corner table.
“This okay?” he asked before sitting.
She glanced around. “Fine.”
She swung her bag over her head and plopped it on the free chair between them.
A waitress came to the table. “Hey, Sean. Haven’t seen you in a while. You could give a girl a complex.”
When he chose the bar, he hadn’t thought about Amanda possibly working. “Hi, Amanda.”
He became acutely aware of Emma watching Amanda and him. He prayed Amanda wouldn’t say anything else.
She smiled broadly and looked at Emma. “What can I get for you?”
“A shot of Jack and light beer.”
“Miller,” Sean added.
“Bottle or tap?”
“Bottle,” both he and Emma said.
Amanda tucked a tray under her arm. “That question was for the lady. I’m pretty sure I know how you like it.” Then she spun on her heel and walked off.
Emma’s mouth eased into a small smile. He wanted to believe she was just being friendly.
“So how long did you two go out?”
“Uh . . .”
Emma waved a hand. “Forget I asked. It was obvious though. You might want to rethink bringing dates here if you’re going to run into your ex.”
He searched for the words to let her know that Amanda wasn’t exactly an ex when Amanda reappeared with their drinks. She set them down quietly without comment, thank God.
Emma picked up her beer and took a swig. “Well, you obviously didn’t screw her over too badly, or you’d probably be wearing your beer.”
“It’s not like that. We had a good night together. Maybe two. Doesn’t quite give her ex status.”
Sean pointed to the shot and asked, “So what makes this a whiskey night, other than your brother screwing up your car?”
“Work stuff.”
“What do you do?”
Emma grabbed the shot and slammed it back. When she set the glass back down, he noticed a butterfly tattoo peeking out from the tank top on the back of her shoulder. She looked at him. “I’m a teacher.”
He froze. He hadn’t expected that. One look at the suit she’d worn and he’d assumed some kind of office job, secretary or something. She was a teacher. He laughed as she took a gulp of beer.
“What’s so funny?”
“I can’t imagine any teacher I ever had doing a shot of Jack in a bar like this.”
A dark look passed over her face, but then she covered it with a smile. “I guess we all have some surprises.”
He reached over and brushed her hair off her shoulder. “I can guarantee I never had a teacher as hot as you. I never would’ve gotten out of school otherwise.”
Emma snorted at him and then took another drink of beer. “You already got me to the bar, buddy, no need for compliments.”
Sean’s hand slid away. He didn’t know how to read that. Women usually liked some sweet talk. “Being honest. If you were my teacher, I’d spend all my time imagining you naked.”
“Show me a good time and you might not have to imagine it.” Her voice was low and a little husky.
“You mean rigging your car to get you to safety, giving you a ride on my bike, and buying you a drink wasn’t enough?”
She laughed. That too was a low, sexy sound. “I might be easy, but not that easy.”

Meet the Hero (In Your Arms) – Sean O’Malley
By: Shannyn Schroeder
I love the O’Malleys. From the first moment I wrote about them in my O’Learys series, I fell for them. And Sean is one of my favorites. Everyone describes him as a live-and-let-live kind of guy who happens to be quick with his fists. And that really sums up who he is.
Sean is all about enjoying life. He works as a mechanic because he likes working on cars. It’s not a stepping-stone to some other career. He plays hockey every chance he gets and rides his motorcycle until the weather prohibits it. He does whatever he wants, pretty much no matter what. When he has a chance to enjoy a long motorcycle ride due to some unexpected awesome weather, he goes, even though it costs him his job. He knows he won’t have a problem getting a new one.
Sean loves his family and likes having them around. It’s part of why he continues to live at home. He can afford to live in his own place, but he chooses not to. He’s very protective of everyone he cares about, and that’s the reason he’s usually so quick to use his fists.
Part of why Sean refuses to be more than an “overgrown boy” is because he grew up watching his older brother Jimmy take care of everyone. Jimmy is ultra-responsible and Sean doesn’t want to live with that kind of burden.
When he meets Emma, he starts to want a relationship with her and doesn’t understand how he could fall for a woman who is a female version of Jimmy. She expects him to be something he can’t be, but for her he’s willing to try.

REVIEW: IT STARTED WITH A KISS by MARINA ADAIR

It Started with a Kiss
Sequoia Lake #1
By: Marina Adair
Releasing January 31st, 2017
Montlake Romance

In It Started with a Kiss (Sequoia Lake #1) by Marina Adair, Avery Adams can't help but appreciate life, not after undergoing a kidney transplant. Her new plan for life is to live it loud, knowing that each day could be her last. Quitting her  job and starting over is her first step, but she never realized how hard being an adventure guide could be when she accepted the job. Still, she's not about to let her desire to channel her inner adventurer get the best of her. Can she prove to Tyson Donovan that she has what it takes to be one of the best assets the adventure lodge his family owns has ever had?

Tyson Donovan doesn't like coming home to Sequoia Lakes, as the place holds his worst memory of all. Unfortunately, now with his father's health problems and the family adventure lodge in danger of going out of business, Ty has returned to help out and get things back on track before leaving again. However, meeting Avery Adams throws his plans to leave in disarray. Can they find the happiness they both deserve, or will Ty's fear of losing someone he's coming to love tear them apart?

I have never read a book by Ms. Adair that I didn't immensely enjoy, and this one was no different. From start to finish, I was entertained by the plot, the main and secondary characters, and the dialogue. So much so, that I finished this book in record time. The way this story began with Avery finding herself tricked by another guide and having to field questions in the nicest way possible from a bunch of male seniors was amusing. Will she be able to handle the elderly gentlemen? Will her negotiations with them work? However, it was the moment that she and and Ty come face-to-face for the first time that made this story a real page turner for me. Because Avery is caught red-handed by Ty and he makes things interesting by teasing her.

As for the dialogue, it was well-written and was a wonderful mix of intense, emotional and playful. The intense and emotional dialogue was due to the main characters back stories, what's going on with Ty's dad and the quest Avery is on to do all the things she's written in her journal. Will Ty be able to handle the truth about his dad's health issues? Will Avery accomplish all the things she's written in her journal? Will Ty and Avery be able to get his family's lodge back on track? Will Avery be able to convince Ty of her philosophy to live life loud? Discovering the answers to those questions had me reading quickly, determined to learn how things turn out for Ty and Avery as well as between Ty and his dad. Since forgiveness for things that happened in Ty's past is important for him to be able to move forward with his life.

Avery's philosophy made her a very compelling heroine, and it was understandable that she wanted to live life to the fullest and do things no matter how scary they may be. Every task she manages to accomplish and her determination makes her a strong and brave heroine. Yet, what I liked most about Avery was the way she challenges Ty and made him question what the future holds for him. While Ty, he's confident, hard-working and I liked how determined he was to make certain his family's adventure lodge doesn't go out of business. He faces some tough challenges, most of all his dad's stubbornness in allowing Ty to help him out, which made me wonder whether the hero would be able to deal with being back in Seqouia. However, I was pleased Ty proved me wrong. Besides, he had Avery to take some of the pressure off of him with their playful banter and strong chemistry that spilled over onto the pages in hot, nicely detailed intimate moments that illustrated just how right these two are for each other.

Overall, Ms. Adair has penned a wonderful, emotional read in this first book of her Sequoia Lake series where the secondary characters entertained me just as much as the main characters. The way this story ended was perfect, as both Ty and Avery are able to leave the past in the past and start their future together; a future that was meant to be. I would highly recommend It Started with a Kiss by Marina Adair, especially if you enjoy books by authors Catherine Bybee, Erin Nicholas or Samantha Chase.

OVERALL RATING:

BLURB:
With a kidney transplant behind her, Avery Adams is determined to channel her inner adventurer and explore everything life has to offer. Only problem is, the closest she’s ever come to a real-life adventure was sixth-grade science camp. So to seize the summer in her rustic Sierra Nevada town, she takes a job as a guide at the local adventure lodge. But Avery doesn’t realize her biggest challenge will register at six-plus feet of rugged good looks and alpha-male charm.

As a member of the Sequoia Elite Mountain Rescue team, Tyson Donovan has made a life out of cheating death and rescuing weekend warriors from the treacherous terrain. “The world is my home” is more than just a motto; it’s what scares off women who would otherwise try to tie him down. When his dad’s health lands the family’s adventure lodge in serious danger of going up in flames, he moves home—and quickly remembers why he left. Until he meets Avery, the irresistible new guide who makes him want to stay.

Tyson gives the inexperienced Avery a lesson in romance that her books could never teach her. And with her undeniable spirit for life, Avery shows Tyson the healing power of love. But with one misstep, everything comes crashing down, and they’ll both have to take the biggest leap of all—into the kind of adventure that lasts a lifetime.
