Tara looked out the window again and realized her pulse was still thrumming. He unnerved her. It wasn’t just his size, it was his attitude. Maybe she was self-conscious because he’d caught her off guard. She was definitely embarrassed that she’d pulled her weapon on him.
She adjusted the vent and got a waft of hot air. His attitude bothered her, but she liked his truck. It smelled like leather and earth and felt deliciously warm. She forced herself to ignore the flutter of nerves generated by being alone in the dark with him. The nerves weren’t from fear but something else. And she wondered which was worse, being afraid of a man she was investigating or being attracted to him?
“You shouldn’t come out here alone.”
She looked at him. “Why not?”
“We’ve got more than a few meth heads around here. You don’t want to walk up on something, not without backup.”
She watched his face in the dimness, uneasy with the protective tone of his voice.
“We confirmed the ID today,” she said.
“I know.”
That ticked her off.
“Won’t be long till the media has it,” he added.
“Where are you getting your information?”
He didn’t answer.
“And the other day,” she said, “how’d you know we were here, me and M.J.? Are you having us tailed?”
Even if he was, he’d probably never admit it. But she at least needed to ask and get his reaction. Shadowing investigators could definitely be considered suspicious behavior.
Although she had to be honest with herself. She didn’t consider him a real suspect. Despite his links to the victim, she simply didn’t feel it.
“I’m guessing you filmed us approaching your property and ran my plate,” she said.
The corner of his mouth lifted. “Nothing that cloak-and- dagger.” He glanced at her. “I’m friends with Crystal.”
“Who’s Crystal?”
“She waited on you at the Waffle Stop. Bright red hair, eyebrow ring.”
She turned to face the window. “Small-town grapevine. And here I’ve been all impressed with your spying abilities.”
“You should be.” He pulled up to her Explorer and parked. “We’re the best there is.”
She looked at him in the darkness, so confident it bordered on arrogance. And the crazy thing was she believed him. She bought into it completely—he was that good.
His eyes locked on hers, and the air between them felt charged with electricity. His gaze dropped to her mouth, and her heart skittered. Was he going to kiss her? He eased closer, watching her, making her heart pound.

REVIEW: SHADOW FALL by LAURA GRIFFIN

In Shadow Fall (The Tracers #9) by Laura Griffin, after her boss asks her to help the Cypress County sheriff's department solve a grisly murder, Special Agent Tara Rushing soon finds herself looking for a serial killer. Worse yet, the local sheriff is ready to pin it on ex-marine, Liam Wolfe, without any real evidence except that he knew the victim.

Liam Wolfe is intrigued by Special Agent Tara Rushing when she arrives at his property, determined to discover if the sheriff's claims that he could be the killer rings true. However, he quickly becomes evasive. Because he's protective of his employees, and there's no way he'll allow her to go after them. Yet, soon he finds she's relying on his instincts as a marine to help her find the person responsible before another woman loses their life.

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Griffin, and it was a book that was thrilling, provided a good dose of suspense, a nice bit of romance and kept me guessing as to who the killer was. Which was I liked most about it, because the last couple of romantic suspense novels I've read, I happened to figure out the antagonist pretty easily.

As for the dialogue, it was powerful. Due to the suspense and the fact that Tara and Liam are such strong characters. Events in their pasts definitely impact why Tara's an agent, and Liam's a security expert. In addition, as to why the local sheriff suspects Liam. What I liked so much about Tara was that she proves quite a challenge for Liam. She wasn't one to back down, and would discover the answers to her burning questions, whether he provided them or not. While Liam seems like the strong, silent type in the beginning. Not willing to give much away to help Tara determine whether the sheriff is right to suspect him. But the more they're around each other, and the more heavily involved in the case she becomes, he's determined to do anything to help her.

The sexual tension between these two builds nicely, due to the fact that Tara gets frustrated by Liam's evasiveness to her questions. Yet, that chemistry explodes onto the pages quite well in some really hot sex scenes that help Tara to deal with the stress of her job. Make her realize that she can't do anything for the victims, except bring their killer to justice.

Overall, this was a really enjoyable read and I'm glad it can be read as a standalone. It also has me wanting to read the rest of this series. I would recommend it, if you're a fan of the romantic suspense genre, or looking to start reading the genre.

REVIEW: THE NIGHTWIND'S WOMAN by CHARLOTTE BOYETT-COMPO

In The Nightwind's Woman by Charlotte Boyett-Compo, Kenzie Delaney is torn between two men. She's the Blood-Mate of archdemon, Kerreyder Abaddon, and the life-mate of incubus, Randon Kayle. Neither are interested in sharing her, and choosing between them isn't an option. Not when the man she's been sharing intense erotic dreams with, will likely be the one that'll lose. Since the other man has more, of a right to claim her. But when all hell breaks loose, their differences will need to be pushed aside, if they're to stop the person determined to use her as a pawn, for nefarious purposes.

The plot was exciting, fast-paced, and I loved how it started with Kenzie being offered a job, which was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. So much happens throughout this story, and each of the three characters face some tough challenges. But the resolution of their conflicts was great, as it bought the two men closer together.

I loved the dialogue. It's intense, and a real-page turner as someone from Kerreyder's past targets the heroine. There's also the fact that Kenzie and Randon already share a bond, so when they finally come face-to-face, it strengthens. Yet, the moment Kerreyder comes into the story, it's goes into testosterone overload, as Randon struggles to deal with the fact that Kenzie has two mates. I'm glad he didn't do anything too stupid that forced Kerreyder to follow through with his threats. Furthermore, there are moments where Randon's fellow Nightwinds tease him, which made me smile or laugh.

I enjoyed all three main characters, as well as the secondary ones. Kerreyder and Randon both had rough pasts, which has shaped them into the hardened men they are. Kerreyder is quite arrogant, while Randon is very gruff. Traits which serve them well when it comes to bringing to justice, or eliminating a paranormal when there's been any wrong doing. While Kenzie, she's smart, determined to prove herself to her new employers, and I liked that she took a chance by accepting the position she was offered. It changed her life for the better, despite all that she goes through.

Explicitly-detailed and scorching sex scenes spilled over onto the pages perfectly, and illustrated the strong chemistry Kenzie had with both men really well. Kerreyder and Randon are lucky to have found her when they did. Sharing her in the end doesn't seem, so bad to either man after what the three endure throughout this story.

Overall, this was another very enjoyable read by this author, of which I loved what one of the secondary characters did to the antagonist. It was a nice display of power, and necessary to ensure Kenzie's future safety. I would recommend this, if you love strong heroes that will do anything, for the one they love.

Part of the WindWorld series. The archdemon Kerreyder Abbadon will fight to have Kenzie Delaney. All he needs to do is take her from the Nightwind incubus Randon Kayle. Nightwinds are not the sharing kind, but when it comes to Blood-mates-and that is what Kenzie is to Kerreyder-the ancient concept takes precedence over the mere life-mate designation that is the Nightwind's claim to Kenzie.

In order to have the female at all, the incubi will have no choice but to share her, else lose her completely. When two demons fight for the love of a mortal woman, all hell will break loose, and when the Seal is broken, unimaginable evil will pour forth. It will take both demons to stop it before mankind is annihilated.

Xavier fixed his face with the smile he knew annoyed her the most. ‘Jealous are we, Little Lady R?’
She whirled about and expelled a breath. ‘Don’t be ridiculous. And don’t call me that.’
‘Don’t get me wrong. I like a bit of jealousy,’ he said, leaning back in his chair and enjoying the pink that imbued her cheeks. ‘It suits you. Brings out that passion you think you’ve buried.’
‘Passion is for fools.’
‘That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard.’
She put her hands on the table and leaned toward him. The fire in her eyes was clear evidence of the emotions that boiled beneath the surface. He had to wrestle with control. He wanted to pull her in his arms, kiss her, take her, here on the kitchen table.
‘Passion leads to broken vows. Passion leads to forbidden love. Passion leads to ending up dead.’ She banged the table with the palm of her hand. ‘Passion leads to a daughter growing up without a mother.’
He breathed hard. Did she really think she was the only one affected? That night had destroyed them both.
‘Passion didn’t kill your mother or my father,’ he said in a low, steady voice. ‘That was a simple act of nature. The worst blizzard in fifty years. Black ice killed our parents. Not their affair.’
‘Passion was the reason they were there.’ The timbre of her words spoke of years of unresolved torment.
Xavier shook his head. Her logic was insane.
‘Are you telling me that because of some tragic freak accident you’re living your life between the lines? Safe. Solid. Secure. No risk. No passion. No life.’
‘I’m living an honest life.’ The emphasis on the word honest was clearer than a fresh running stream. The implication . . . still clearer. Nasty, red-hot anger flooded his body. He drew in a calming breath, and another.
‘You still believe I did it, don’t you?’
