RELEASE DAY BLAST - REVIEW: DISAVOWED by TEE O'FALLON

About the Book:

NYPD Detective Dom Carew can’t forget the violent way his lover was killed in Afghanistan fifteen years ago. The pain and trauma of her death still haunt him, and since then he hasn’t let a woman under his skin. Until one incredible, hot and steamy night with stunning and sassy Daisy Fowler.

Sexy, gorgeous, and hunky doesn’t begin to describe Dom Carew, but Daisy’s been burned by Dom before. A year ago, he bolted from her bed in the middle of the night without so much as a gee you were great in the sack, babe. Never laying eyes on his handsome face again is the plan. If only their paths didn’t keep crossing. If only she didn’t still find him irresistible as sin.

Seeing Daisy again sets Dom’s blood on fire, but he’s about to embark on the most dangerous undercover op of his life—infiltrate the Pyramid, an international organization of assassins. Love has no place in his heart or his world, but when the dangers of his job threaten Daisy, he’ll destroy anyone in his path to protect her.

In Disavowed (NYPD Blue & Gold #3) by Tee O'Fallon, the feelings Dom Carew has had for Daisy Fowler ever since he met and then spent an incredible night with her have Dom running scared and uncertain whether he'll be able to do anything about said feelings, considering the last woman he loved died a horrible death. However, for the moment he needs to put his feelings on the back burner, if he's to successfully complete the dangerous undercover assignment he's agreed to take on. Infiltrating the Pyramid isn't going to be easy, but Dom's determined to take the group of assassins down once and for all. Yet, when things become too dangerous, will Dom be able to protect the one person he's fallen for, or will Daisy be another reminder of his failure to protect someone he loves?

Ms. O'Fallon has delivered a fantastic and mesmerizing read in this third book of her NYPD Blue and Gold series, which had plenty of twists and turns when it came to the suspense; plenty of obstacles for the incredible main characters to overcome to be together, especially since Daisy feels she can no longer trust Dom after what he did to her; and wonderful dialogue that made this story a total page turner, as Dom knows how to get under the heroine's skin. The way this story started with the prologue sets the fast pace of this story, as there's remarkable and powerful chemistry between this couple that had me determined to discover where Daisy and Dom would go from there. Will Dom be able to let go of the past to have a future with Daisy? Will Daisy give Dom a second chance?

Both the main characters were compelling and I loved how Dom teased the heroine to get her to talk to him, which isn't easy with her abandonment issues and her belief that they could have had something worthwhile, if he hadn't have done what he did a year ago. The heroine is also resilient, independent and I could sympathize with her when it came to her past, because of a tragedy that happened on a special day to her. I also liked the heroine's enthusiasm for her career as a florist and how she handled herself when it came to anyone determined to hurt her. Certainly, she's a fighter and doesn't give up, no matter how tough the odds are. While the hero, I couldn't help but empathize with him when it comes to his past. Will he be able to keep Daisy safe when he couldn't save another woman he loved years ago? However, he's confident, smart, a good detective and I liked his determination to take down the pyramid once and for all. I also liked how protective the hero was of Daisy and that he would do anything to keep her safe, especially in the moment when the odds aren't in his favor.

Overall, Ms. O'Fallon has penned another superb read for this series where the chemistry was strong between this couple; the romance hot and nicely-detailed in doing justice to this couple's chemistry; and the ending had me on the edge-of-my-seat because of what the hero and heroine face from the Pyramid. However, in saying that, I liked how Dom made things right between him and Daisy, as he realizes that he deserves a second chance at love and that there's no one more perfect for him than the heroine. I would recommend Disavowed by Tee O'Fallon, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the sexy protector trope or books by authors Katie Reus, Toni Anderson, Sheryl Nantus and Kat Martin.

Before she could evade his embrace, he clasped one of her hands and she had no choice but to put her other hand on his shoulder to keep from falling on her ass again. When he gazed down at her and his lips twisted into a cocky grin that irritated the hell out of her, she stomped her heel on his foot and was rewarded with a muted curse.

“Daisy.” He gritted his teeth. “I’m warning you. Be a good girl.”

“I am a good girl.” She smiled up at him sweetly, delighting in the way he was grimacing. Nothing like a three-inch heel to put a guy in his place. “I just don’t want you to harbor any misguided notions that I might actually enjoy dancing with you.”

“The thought never crossed my mind.” He glared down at her for a moment, then as the band began playing Elvis’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” he swung her onto the dance floor.

Even with a slight limp he was an unexpectedly smooth dancer. A pang of guilt made her regret stomping on his foot. Not only was it childish but she shouldn’t have done anything to hurt him more than he already was. “Are you ever going to tell me why you’re limping?”

“No,” he said flatly. “But I’m touched that you care.”

“I don’t.” Vaguely, she realized she did. “I’m merely curious.”

“Relax, Ms. Fowler.” He nuzzled her cheek with his chin. “Try pulling in your claws long enough to enjoy the dance.”

She let out an exasperated breath. “Fine.”

“Good girl.” Dom chuckled in her ear, eliciting unwanted shivers down her neck and back.

Squeezing her eyes shut, she vowed not to let him get to her. If only this song didn’t seem as if it went on forever.

If only I didn’t feel every inch of the man’s long, muscular legs against mine, or his chest against my breasts.

She tried pulling away from him, desperate to put space between their bodies, but he only held her tighter.

“The flowers are beautiful.” His blue eyes bored down into hers.

“Flattery will get you nowhere, Detective.” She was determined not to be affected by the man.

And failing at it miserably.

“Then what will?” Again he grinned, the way she imagined any gorgeous blond, blue-eyed sun god grins at unsuspecting young women just before plundering their virginity.

“Nothing,” she ground out.

“Then stop rubbing against me. Me being such a womanizing asshole, that just pushes all my buttons.”

  1. The first book of this series was so good and I still believe it's the best of the series, despite loving this book because of the hero.
