In Fighting for Love (Boston Love #2) by Kelly Elliott, Rory Adams is a woman that's done everything in her power to make her parents proud of her. However, she never expected to meet a man like Finn Ward; a gorgeous man that turns her world upside down, especially since her father is Finn's boss and her father has always been adamant that he'll never accept her dating a firefighter. Can they find a way to achieve their happy ever after when so much seemed stacked against them?

Ms. Elliott is a new-to-me author, and after finishing this story, I can't wait to read more. From start to finish, this book had me hooked with its well-written dialogue, the main characters back stories, and their growing relationship. At times, it seemed this couple would never overcome the obstacles they faced. Should they give a relationship between them a chance? How would her father react? Would her being with Finn cause a permanent rift between father and daughter?

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, this couple's growing relationship and the obstacles these two face to achieve their happy ever after. Rory has some tough choices to make and I could sympathize with her, because her father is a total jerk. Just because he made mistakes doesn't mean that Finn would make the same ones, even though he was a total player before meeting the heroine. However, the dialogue wasn't all intense. There was also some really good playful banter between the hero and heroine that had me smiling, especially when they or the secondary characters talked about the past. How much Finn used to like Rory when they were little, and what he said about their future. Does it come true? Especially since they have so much chemistry, which spilled over onto the pages in nicely-detailed sex scenes, and illustrated just how right these are for each other.

Rory is strong, brave and I liked how determined she was to follow her heart, instead of settling for what she thought her parents wanted for her. How could she give up on Finn when he was the only thing in her life making her completely happy? She's also hard-working and tenacious when it comes to making certain she can win a case, which is proven by what lengths she goes to for a client. Yet, what I liked  most about the heroine was how well she fit in with Finn's family, and what she did for his sister-in-law, because of what happens to Finn and his brother during one of the most precious moments for a couple.

While Finn, he's confident, brave and I liked how hard he fought to win the heroine over when her fear of being with a man that works such a dangerous job got the better of her. A fear I could understand why she had with everything her mother went through with her father having the same job as Finn. Then there's the growing friendship he had with a dog. The dog was a real pest with how naughty and mischievous he gets, yet how could Finn stay mad when the dog seemed so cute?

Overall, Ms. Elliott delivered a beguiling read that tugged at my heartstrings  until I found myself crying for what the heroine goes through towards the end. Shouldn't a father want their daughter to be happy, no matter that they don't approve of the man she's fallen in love with? The way this story ended had me smiling big time because of the good news Finn receives, although I was worried about the heroine. Would she be all right? Luckily, the heroine thinks the news is good too. Moreover, the epilogue wrapped this story up perfectly with what Rory does to Finn and then their lives becoming more filled with happiness. I would highly recommend Fighting for Love by Kelly Elliott, if you enjoy the forbidden relationship trope or if you enjoy books by authors Kendall Ryan, Jennifer Foor or Kristen Proby.

OVERALL RATING:

BLURB:
Finn Ward has two passions: being a firefighter and being single. Although his parents are constantly nagging him to settle down, Finn just wants to enjoy himself while he’s young. Then, at a union meeting, he meets a gorgeous lawyer with a dazzling smile—and suddenly, settling down doesn’t sound so bad.

Rory Adams is fresh out of law school and looking to make a name for herself at her mother’s firm. She doesn’t have time for silly games anymore. But when she catches the eye of a dashing fireman who makes her body tingle from across the room, something instantly ignites between them. The only problem? Her father is Finn’s boss.

Their relationship turns both of their lives upside-down. Rory tames Finn’s wild ways, while he shows her that life can’t be all work and no play. But it’ll take some serious determination to keep their love secret—and real courage to admit the truth.
