REVIEW: BAD INFLUENCE by STEFANIE LONDON

Bad Influence
Bad Bachelors #3
By Stefanie London
Releasing February 26th, 2019
Sourcebooks Casablanca

In Bad Influence (Bad Bachelors #3) by Stefanie London, Annie Maxwell and Joe Preston were so in love, but they ended up going their separate ways with Joe leaving at a time when Annie needed him the most. However, now Joe is back in New York and determined to make things right with Annie. Except he finds that might be impossible, especially considering everything she's done after he left that has now brought trouble into her life. Will Joe be able to help Annie and keep her safe or will they lose their second chance at happy ever after because she can't forgive him?

Being a total fan of Ms. London's books, I've got to say that this is her best series yet. With each book entertaining me from start to finish because of the fantastic characters, compelling dialogue and wonderfully-crafted plots that had me loving the challenges each couple face to be together. The way this story started with the prologue had me sympathizing with Annie and Joe, as Annie has a tough choice to make. Did she make the right one? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine are reunited where this story really takes off because Joe is determined to push Annie's buttons.

As for the dialogue, it was highly entertaining and a wonderful combination of intense moments due to the main characters back stories, the threats Annie is receiving and the protectiveness of the heroine's friends and family that don't make it easy for Annie to forgive and forget how badly Joe hurt her when they went their separate ways years earlier; and playful banter that had me enjoying the growing relationship between Joe and Annie, as they find their way back together. Furthermore, I loved the range of emotion Ms. London brought to this story, which had me smiling, laughing, wanting to cry and left me with happy tears, as this couple overcome the tough obstacles they face to be together. Will Joe be able to win Annie and her family and friends over? Will Joe be able to help Annie get to the bottom of who is threatening her? Will Joe be able to finally make his parents understand that Annie is the one he wants to be with and will they accept her as part of the Preston family?

With the main characters, I absolutely loved Joe. He's smart, driven, hard-working and I liked how determined he was to win Annie over because he's never gotten over her and feels guilty for leaving when she needed him most. I also liked the decisions Joe makes throughout this story to show Annie that she'll always be the one he puts first from now on. No way will he let his family come between them. While the heroine, she's resilient, courageous and I liked how she handled Joe being back in her life. Then again, she has the help of good friends to support her. Furthermore, it's understandable why she was a little bitter over Joe leaving her and why she built the app she did to save other women from heartbreak. However, she never could have imagined how many problems it would create for her, especially someone threatening her. Will Joe be able to help Annie get to the bottom of who is threatening her before she gets hurt? Will Annie put her trust in Joe again because he's the only one that can help her?

Overall, Ms. London has delivered a fun, delightful and charming read in this book where emotions run high; the chemistry between this couple was off-the-charts; the romance was full of exquisite heat and passion and had me loving that these two find their way back to each other; and the ending had me loving the hero's determination to fight for his future with Annie. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly, as Annie finally has everything she's ever wanted for her life -- Joe, the support of friends and family, and finally making her dream come true of helping people. I would recommend Bad Influence by Stefanie London, if you enjoy contemporary romance with a touch of suspense, the second chance romance trope or books by authors Avery Flynn, Naima Simone, Erin Nicholas and Kristen Proby.

He's the bad bachelor who inspired it all...

Annie Maxwell had her whole life figured out...until her fiance left her when his career took off. If that wasn't bad enough, every society blog posted pictures of him escorting a woman wearing her engagement ring. To help the women of New York avoid guys like her ex, Annie created the Bad Bachelors app. But try as she might, Annie just can't forget him...

For bank executive Joe Preston, his greatest mistake was leaving the love of his life when she needed him most. Now, all he wants is to make things right--and she won't have him. But when Annie's safety is threatened by a hacker determined to bring down her app, Joe is the only one she can turn to. He'll have to lay himself on the line to prove to Annie that he's a changed man. But will their hard-won bond survive the revelation that Annie is the one pulling the strings behind Bad Bachelors?

He’s hoping to bury the past. She’s ready to settle the score.

The Sterling Ranch’s season opening isn’t going so smoothly. With the ranch’s lodge full of guests and a Montana blizzard threatening, Will Sterling needs help—and he needs it fast. So when his childhood friend Poppy Carmichael agrees to lend a hand, he’s grateful for a second chance…and more enticed by the woman she’s become than he cares to admit.

For Poppy, it was supposed to be a retreat full of horse rides and hoedowns—with a side of showing Will what he’s been missing all these years. But as the snow deepens outside, the guests’ suspicion and mistrust turn sinister inside, catching Will and Poppy in the crosshairs.

Weathering the storm in each other’s arms is all too easy for Will and Poppy, but will a confrontation with a killer mean their reunion is short-lived?

In Stroke of Luck (Sterling's Montana #1) by BJ Daniels, Will Sterling should be worried that things aren't running smoothly on the ranch since it's said that bad luck comes in threes. So, when the ranch cook breaks a leg, Will has to hire someone and that person is Poppy Carmichael; his childhood friend whose heart he broke. However, when things go from bad to dangerous, can Will keep Poppy safe or will he lose her to a killer that will do anything to prevent being arrested?

Although I felt the POV of one of the secondary characters, Lamar, was in the story a tad too much and took away a little of the spotlight off the hero and heroine and their growing relationship, I really enjoyed this story. It was absolutely engaging because of the main characters and the history that is between them; and fast-paced because of the everything that's happening on the ranch when it comes to someone determined to stop anyone that could reveal their crimes. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time where this story really gets interesting, as the heroine is determined to shake things up for the hero. Will the plan she has succeed?

As for the dialogue, it was intense and entertaining due to the main characters back stories and the danger the hero, heroine and the secondary characters face. Will the hero be able to keep everyone he cares about safe? Moreover, I really liked both the main characters. They're relatable, likeable and have a wonderful growing relationship that had me hoping that everything would work out for the best for the pair, even though the heroine had plans to do exactly what the hero did to her in the past that left her heartbroken.

With the heroine, she's sassy and I loved how determined she is in her plan to get back at Will for hurting her years ago, but finds herself falling in love with him all over again. I also liked how resilient and courageous she is when it comes to the danger she faces. Will she and Will be all right if they happen to come face-to-face with a killer determined to stop anyone that could derail everything they've done? While the hero, he's determined to make things on the ranch work but it doesn't seem possible with everything that is happening with first his cook being injured, then hiring Poppy who is getting under his skin, and then with the danger to his, Poppy and the ranch guests lives. Will it be possible for Will to be able to get to the bottom of who is killing the ranch guests?

Overall, BJ Daniels has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was strong; the romance was well worth the wait; and the ending had me worried for everyone's safety, but finally had me loving how things work out for Poppy and Will. No way can he let her get away this time. I would recommend Stroke of Luck by BJ Daniels, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the second chance romance trope or books by authors Lara Adrian, Laura Griffin, Cristin Harber and Vicki Tharp.

He groaned. “You aren’t making this any easier.” He was already short-staffed. Normally the guest ranch didn’t take guests this early in the season. Late spring and summer were the guest ranch’s busiest times, with a fall season for hunters. But a friend of their father’s had made a special request for Will to open for four days in March. Big Jack Hanson owned a small fly-fishing vest company outside of La Quinta, California, called On the Fly. Big Jack wanted to hold a retreat for some of his employees at Sterling Montana Guest Ranch, a place from his youth. He’d been uncompromising on when. Although anxious to get his first season running the guest ranch alone started, Will had tried to talk him out of it, reminding him what the weather could be like this time of the year in the mountains of Montana. Also that they would be short-staffed. Which meant that the guests would be making their own beds each day and taking care of the housekeeping in their cabins. Dorothea would be helping in the kitchen and making sure their guests had everything they needed from daily treats in their cabins to clean towels.

“Sounds perfect,” Big Jack had said. “Won’t hurt them a bit to do for themselves for what time we’re there.” A charismatic, large man with red hair like a fireplug, blue eyes and a talent for hyperbole, Big Jack had offered to pay extra. “My crew needs this. I need this. You don’t have to roll out the red carpet or go to any trouble.” Spoken like a man who knew nothing about hosting guests. But Will had given in since, at one time, Big Jack had been like family. He knew his father would have wanted him to do whatever was necessary to accommodate Big Jack and his employees.

At the sound of the shuttle van arriving from the airport down in the valley, Will knew he couldn’t be choosy about a cook. His guests would be expecting dinner tonight and since neither he nor Dorothea could do more than boil water… He called information for Poppy Carmichael’s number and was put right through. The moment she answered, he hesitated, reminding himself of why this was a bad idea on so many levels. He and Poppy had a history—and not a good one. True, it was twenty years ago, but still… Through the front window, he saw his guests begin to pile out of the van. They were all wearing what appeared to be new matching navy winter jackets with an On the Fly logo on the back and matching stocking caps. They looked tired from the long trek from the airport up into the mountains outside of Whitefish, Montana. They also already looked hungry.

“Poppy?” He cleared his voice. “It’s Will. Will Sterling. Up at the Sterling guest ranch.”

“Will.” The sound of her voice threw him for a moment. It was soft, refined, his name spoken on almost an amused breath. He plunged on. “My cook, Buckshot Brewster, broke his leg and I’m desperate, as I have guests arriving as we speak. Is there any way—” Dorothea was shaking her head and mumbling again about bad luck and this whole retreat already being cursed.

“How long?” Poppy said on the other end of the line.

“Four days starting today, Sunday. The guests leave Wednesday afternoon. If there is any way you can fit it into your schedule…”

A soft laugh. “So you need me.” There was a small hesitation before she said, “Right away.”

“Yes! I have nine guests that have to be fed tonight. I’m sorry for such short notice. If you can swing it, I’ll pay your going rate and a bonus at the end of the four days. What do you say? Buckshot brought most of the supplies up already and my brothers just delivered the rest, so I think we have everything you’ll need to cook up here. We have our own supply of beef, bison and elk, and plenty of canned goods. We just need a…cook.”

An amused chuckle. “I see.”

Tinsel
Lark Cove #4
By Devney Perry
Releasing February 19th, 2019
Self-Published

Sofia Kendrick has always cherished her tiara. As the youngest daughter of a wealthy New York family, she’s lived the life of an American princess. But after two scandalous divorces and a breakup smear her name across the society rags, the shine from her crown has dulled.

People call her superficial, even gaudy. She’s nothing more than tinsel. Desperate for escape and starving for peace, Sofia heads to Montana for a holiday weekend with her brother. But she doesn’t get the relaxing vacation she planned.

Instead, she’s put to work in a bar alongside Dakota Magee—a man who does not want her help. A man who is set on teaching her a few lessons about real life and hard work. But Sofia has a couple of life lessons of her own to teach. Like how to fall in love.

In Tinsel (Lark Cove #4) by Devney Perry, Sofia Kendrick loves her life as a socialite. However, when an article about her is written and paints a very unflattering picture of her life as a two-time divorcee and someone that loves to spend her family's money instead of doing something meaningful with her life, she realizes it's time for a change. So, she heads to Lark Cove to visit her brother and finds herself working behind the bar her sister-in-law runs. Yet, she's never had a job and doesn't know what she's doing. Still, she'll do her best to finally turn her life around. But she never imagined she'd fall in love with someone totally her opposite. Will Sofia and Dakota take a chance on each other or will they walk away from each other because they're too different?

If you haven't had a chance to read any of this series than you're missing out on some really fantastic stories. Stories filled with great characters, absolutely engaging dialogue and will keep you entertained from start to finish because of the main characters back stories and the couple's journey to happy ever after and this story is no different. Really, the way this story started had me sympathizing with the heroine and had me reading quickly, determined to discover whether her family would ever be proud of her instead of always thinking of her as a screw-up. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time where this story really gets interesting, as the hero doesn't want to be saddled with Sofia, but soon finds himself wanting to make things better for her. Will Dakota be able to help Sofia discover her purpose in life?

With the main characters, I loved the way these two blossomed in the way they're complete opposites, but end up realizing how much they need each other and fight for their future together. Yes, they have their fears and those that oppose their relationship, but I liked that they didn't let anything get in the way of achieving their happy ever after. Not after what the pair go through that makes them realize they can't live without the other. Furthermore, I really liked the heroine and all that she goes through. She's hit rock bottom and realizes what a complete joke she is and I enjoyed how determined she was to make something of herself finally. Really, she's resilient, courageous, driven to show her family she can succeed and I liked how she shows her family what she can do when she puts her mind to achieving something of her own.

While the hero, he faces his own struggles when it comes to his family and going against everything his parents wanted for him. Certainly, his parents made him feel like he was suffocating by all but demanding he do what they want and I'm so glad he went his own way in life. Really, he's done so well for himself and deserves to feel proud of all that he's achieved, even if it's less than what he'd hoped he'd accomplish for his life by now. I also liked how good the hero is to the heroine because she hasn't had the easiest of times lately and needs someone on her side.

Overall, Ms. Perry has delivered a fantastic and compelling read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was tangible and strong; the romance was delightful and had me liking that these two took a chance on each other; and the ending had me loving the decision the hero makes to prove to the heroine that she's the one and he'll always choose her. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely because Sofia and Dakota are so happy together and everything that's happened in their lives has brought Sofia that much closer with her family, which was wonderful to read. I would recommend Tinsel by Devney Perry, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope or books by authors Vi Keeland, Corinne Michaels, Melanie Harlow and Adriana Locke.

NaE - AN

NaE - Teaser 1 AN.jpg

Lexi could feel Caleb’s breath on her lips, and his bunched muscles under her palm were hot and hard. She stared at his mouth. He stared at hers. And she decided that if he wasn’t going to look at her breasts, looking at her mouth like he was starving and she was a grilled BLT—his favorite food in the world—was just fine with her. Being compared, even in her own head, to a grilled BLT might not seem sexy, but in her mind, it so was. Caleb devoured those sandwiches. He’d do almost anything for one. He made sexy moaning sounds when he first tasted them. And he’d proclaimed that hers were the best he’d ever tasted. Yeah, put that way, along with the schnapps still coating her brain, it was strangely sexy. “Caleb.” She watched his pupils dilate and his jaw clench. Her hand went to the front of his shirt and she bunched it in her fists, watching his eyes. He didn’t try to stop her. Then she tugged, urging him forward. And he came, the hand next to her hip pressing into the mattress as she tipped her head to one side. Their lips touched. Softly. Briefly. But she felt it all the way to her bones. Heat, want, relief. She suddenly had to have more. She made a little almost-a-sob sound and licked her tongue along his lower lip. “Lex.” Her name was more of a groan than a word. It was the sexiest thing she’d ever heard. “Caleb,”she breathed. Then the next groan became the sexiest thing she’d ever heard. It was a combination of hunger and resignation, and she felt like he’d just set her nerve endings on fire. Suddenly, Caleb’s hand came up to cup the back of her head, his fingers diving into her hair. And he took over. His mouth opened over hers and his tongue stroked deep and hot. Every glide of his tongue felt as though he was running a finger over her clit. Some were firmer, some softer, some longer, some shorter, and her need ratcheted up with each one. She ran her hands over his chest to his shoulders and up the sides of his neck, loving the hard muscles and the heat under her palms. Then she slid her hands down his sides to the bottom of his shirt. She slipped her hands underneath, moaning as she met hot, bare skin. He sucked in a quick breath and she smiled against his lips, loving having an effect on him. And suddenly she was on her back and Caleb was moving over her. Her hands slid to his back, the muscles there bunching as he braced himself above her, still kissing her like it was his job. Instinctively, she slid her legs apart and he settled between them. The comforter was between them, but she felt him hard and hot and deliciously heavy against her. The feel of his cock pressed against her made her ache. She’d done that to him. She’d made him hard. Hallelujah.
