Stay #1
By Jennifer Probst
Releasing June 5th, 2018
Montlake Romance
An enriching story of family ties, broken hearts, and second chances from New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst.
When Ethan Bishop returns to the Hudson Valley, his body and spirit are a little worse for wear. As a former Special Forces paratrooper, he saw his fair share of conflict, and he came home with wounds, inside and out. At his sisters’ B & B and farm, he can keep all his pain at a safe distance. But quiet time isn’t easy when a fiery woman explodes into his life…
It’s business—not pleasure—that brings Manhattan PR agent Mia Thrush reluctantly to the farm. Tightly wound and quick tempered, Mia clashes immediately with the brooding Ethan. Everything about him is irritating—from his lean muscles and piercing blue eyes to his scent of sweat and musk.
But as the summer unfolds and temperatures rise, Ethan and Mia discover how much they have in common: their guarded histories, an uncontrollable desire, and a passion for the future that could heal two broken hearts. But will their pasts threaten their fragile chance at a brand-new future?
PURCHASE THE START OF SOMETHING GOOD
In The Start of Something Good (Stay #1) by Jennifer Probst, Ethan Bishop has returned to Hudson Valley to heal from the trauma he suffered in his career as a Special Forces paratrooper. Determined to keep his distance, he never imagined his sisters would force him to work the farm and interact with guests. However, when he finds himself in charge of a young woman needing to complete community service at the farm, he finds himself clashing with the feisty PR woman assigned to keep the girl out of trouble. Will Ethan be able to win Mia over, so they can have a chance at happy ever after?
It's been a while since I've read a book by Ms. Probst, so I'm glad I decided to read this first book of her Stay series that encompasses wonderful main characters who go from enemies to lovers and have incredible chemistry; dialogue that was very entertaining, as Mia is feisty and isn't afraid to tell Ethan what she thinks of him because he can a bit arrogant; and the fast-paced plot had me loving the growing relationship between this couple and the tough obstacles they have to overcome to be together. Will they be able to overcome the fact that she has a wonderful career in the city and he's looking to stay in Hudson Valley?
As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, especially that of the hero because he holds so much guilt inside over what happened during his last mission. Will he realize that there was nothing more could do? Will he realize that he can't save everyone? Furthermore, the heroine was smart, sassy, hard-working and I liked how well she fit in with the Hudson Valley townspeople. Certainly, she works magic when it comes to helping people in her career as a public relations agent, which is proven by how successful she's been and what she does to help people in need. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine is how she gave the farm a chance once she realized that it wasn't all bad. Besides, how could she not love the farm with the growing friendship she shared with a certain animal. It was a friendship that had me laughing and smiling because of the way the heroine talks to said animal.
While Ethan, he's had it rough with everything he's been through, but I liked how he begins to heal himself by getting into the swing of things on the farm and getting back to helping out with the horses and by interacting with people, especially the guests of their family run Bed & Breakfast. Guests who were funny with the tales of their adventures and their love of sexy times and definitely know how to have fun. I also liked how he helped Chloe -- the college girl who landed herself in trouble and was made to do community service -- because she needs someone on her side because it seems her father is more interested in winning the race for mayor then his own daughter. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero was his confidence, his resilience and his determination to win Mia over, even though he knows that's not going to be easy after what happened when they first met and the fact that he wasn't exactly all that friendly to her.
Overall, Ms. Probst has penned a fantastic read in this book that delivered plenty of emotion in the way I laughed, I smiled and was ready to cry towards the end because Mia is a city girl and Ethan is just settling back into his small country hometown; and where the chemistry between this couple was heady and convincing; the romance was passionate and shows how good Mia is for Ethan and vice versa; and the ending had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after, as there are big decisions for the pair to make. However, in saying that, I liked how everything worked out for the best because these two are so deserving of their happy ever after. I would recommend The Start of Something Good by Jennifer Probst, if you enjoy second chance romances, the opposites attract trope, the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Marina Adair, Catherine Bybee, Melissa Foster and Kristen Proby.
