In Anywhere with You by Christina Elle, Teegan Michaels is sick of attending weddings without a date at her side, especially when her friends are finding love and experiencing everything she wishes she had in her life. So, when her best friend's brother asks her for a favor, Teegan can't help but agree, especially since she's always had a thing for Wes. However, all Wes wants is revenge against the woman that broke his heart and is now marrying someone else. Will Teegan help Wes and find a way to show him that they're perfect for each other or will Wes break Teegan's heart?
This novella was a really quick read and I found once I started I could not put it down because the main characters were fantastic, the dialogue was very entertaining and had me loving the hero and heroine's growing relationship, as Wes is Teegan's best friend's brother; and the fast-paced plot had some interesting obstacles for these two to overcome because Teegan has always had feelings for Wes and she's finally going to get the chance to be with him, even if it is just fake.
The way this story started drew me in immediately, as it's understandable why the heroine wants a date for this wedding, but is going along with Wes's plan for revenge really a good idea? Will she help him? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time where this story really takes off, as the hero will do just about anything to get what he wants and what he wants is revenge. Will his charm be enough to win Teegan over?
As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, especially that of the hero because he's been through so much with what happened to him and then to have the woman he loved leave him on top of it was hard to handle and it's understandable why he wants revenge. How could he not have seen the woman he once loved for the shallow woman she was? Will his revenge be sweet or will someone get hurt? Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I loved how she kept digging herself in deeper with everything she blurts out that had me smiling or laughing because her and Wes's relationship is fake, and yet, she's making it out to be very real. I also liked the close friendships she shares with some of the secondary characters who are supportive of her relationship with Wes, even though he used to date the bride-to-be.
While the hero, he's confident and I liked how determined he was to get his revenge. So, what a better way to do that than to show his ex that he's moved on, especially when it comes to the games they play that brings out Wes and Teegan's competitiveness. Will they win and prove their relationship is a good thing? I also liked the close bond the hero shares with his sister because the advice she gives him is advice he definitely needs and I loved how she wasn't about to let his chance at happiness slip by because it's palpable that Teegan is the one.
Overall, Ms. Elle has delivered a wonderful read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was heady and convincing; the romance was full of exquisite heat and passion that had me hoping Wes would realize that Teegan is the right woman for him before it's too late; and the ending had me loving the hero's determination to make things right with the heroine after their relationship goes awry. His words are precious, even if he did need a bit of coaching to get them right. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly, as these two are made for each other and I'm glad that Wes realized that. I would recommend Anywhere with You by Christina Elle, if you enjoy the best friend's brother trope, the fake relationship trope or books by authors Marissa Clarke, Miranda Liasson, Melanie Shawn and Jeannie Moon.
Excerpt
She peeked
a glance up at him, catching mostly only a broad shoulder because of his
height. His long arms swung at his sides and his posture stern as he stared at
the romantic beach scene in front of them.
They were
about thirty feet from the other guests when Wes slipped his hand into hers.
She
stiffened on contact and her brain shut down.
Low, so
only she could hear, he said, "We have to sell it, remember?"
She nodded,
not trusting herself to say anything while her heart did backhand springs in
her rib cage. Holy crap. She was totally holding Wes Stevenson’s hand.
And she totally
sounded like a teenybopper thinking that.
Be cool,
Tee. Be cool.
It was
going to be tough though since her version of cool had never been anything
close to his. Or anyone else's for that matter.
Standing up
straighter, she closed her hand around his, taking in the feel of skin against
skin. The closer they got to the already filled area, the more erratic her
heartbeat became. She was going to face Juliet, her family, and friends. And
they were all going to chastise Teegan for bringing Wes.
Damn. She
wished she'd thought about that before this moment. She could've feigned
sickness for the entire weekend. What was going around right now? Yellow fever?
Malaria? She'd even take a good case of salmonella. Anything to get her out of
seeing the judgment in everyone's eyes. The same judgment she saw at every
other Delta Gam wedding she'd attended.
With a
date, without a date...it didn't matter. It followed Teegan anyway.
The man in
question didn't seem bothered by their impending fate. He stood tall and wore a
confident smile. Zero nerves radiated off him.
The Ice
Box, they'd called him on the football field. Because he was always cool under
pressure. Man, what she wouldn't give to have some of that superpower right
now.
He squeezed
her hand, which made her look up at him. He lifted his chin, gesturing in front
of them. She looked toward a receiving line that included the bride and groom.
Juliet and
the man she'd left Wes for.
Excellent.
Teegan couldn't wait to greet them both on this glorious, fantastic evening.
Why, oh
why, had she agreed to this? It would’ve been better not to attend at all,
rather than bring Juliet’s ex to Juliet’s wedding.
Oh, God.
Her heart was beating at an unhealthy rate. She might faint.
Hey, that
wasn’t a bad idea. If she fainted—
The hand
attached to hers tightened.
Wes. She
was doing this for Wes. Just think about that. This had to be a million times
worse for him.
