In Hard Run by (Delta Force Brotherhood #2) by Sheryl Nantus, Skye Harris would do anything to get revenge on the people that hurt her brother, so turning up on the doorstep of the Devil's Playground and asking Finn Storm and the rest of the Brotherhood for their help in taking down a gang may be her only possibility of success. But the more time she spends with Finn and the deeper he gets into his investigation, the more worried she becomes for his life, especially with the plan he has. Will Finn be able to protect Skye, or will she get caught in the crossfire as Finn does everything he can to bring down the gang forever?

Just like the first book of this series, I found this story captivating, fast-paced and a wonderful read that had me enjoying the main characters because the heroine is desperate for revenge and willing to do whatever it takes to get it, even though Finn and the Brotherhood are determined to make sure Skye doesn't go as far as she wants her revenge to go. Will Skye listen to reason? The way this story started had me empathizing with the heroine, as her brother means a lot to her and she would do anything for him, even if it means putting her life in danger to make sure that those hurt him pay for what they've done. Will Skye be able to dismantle the gang with the help of the hero and his friends?

As for the dialogue, it was riveting and kept me entertained from start to finish, because the heroine is driven by emotion and revenge due to what's going on with her brother. Will her brother be all right or will Skye want revenge even more? Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how determined she was in her plans for revenge, even though revenge can leave a mark on the soul, which is something Finn knows all too well because of what happened to his mother and the way he wanted revenge on the person he believed was responsible. I also liked how the heroine handled herself under pressure when the moment calls for it. Can she outthink those that want to hurt her?

While the hero, he's confident; determined to help Skye in her pursuit for revenge, even though he's not willing to go as far as she hopes for; and I liked how protective he was of the heroine because he knows things could get out of control with how far she wants to go to shut down the gang. Will Finn and the others of the Brotherhood be able to talk Skye out of her plans? I also liked the tight bond of the men of the Brotherhood and how good they work together to solve the kind of cases they pursue for people that the police can't help. Certainly, Finn has some cool gadgets he uses to get information he needs that he can't get anyway else, not without putting himself in danger.

Overall, Ms. Nantus has delivered a splendid read in this book, which had the perfect blend of romance and suspense; where the chemistry and romance was explosive; and the ending, especially the epilogue wrapped this story up nicely because Finn is determined to convince Skye that he needs her in his life. Then again, the decision Skye makes about her future proves she needs Finn in her life just as much as he needs her in his life. I would recommend Hard Run by Sheryl Nantus, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the revenge trope, or books by authors Misty Evans, Tee O'Fallon, Katie Reus and Laura Griffin.

“Listen. This is important.” Finn put both hands on her shoulders and pulled her to face him. “From now on, if I disappear for a full twenty-four hours without any contact, you get your ass to Vegas. No ifs, ands, or buts—you get in the car and floor it. You don’t call anyone, you don’t tell them you’re leaving town.” He hesitated, knowing this part would be the hardest for her to do. “You don’t call Pat. You don’t stop at the hospital. Drive straight to the Devil’s Playground. Call Dylan while you’re on the road and let them know you haven’t heard from me, and you’re on your way based on these instructions.”
“Robby…”
“No. He’s got Ace and Wyatt with him. The two of them can get Robby out of the hospital, but they can’t cover you. You show up, you’ll be an added weight. Let them follow their orders, and you follow yours.” Finn gave an angry shake of his head. “Robby would want you to save yourself first. You’re no good to him if you’re hurt or worse.” An icy ball formed in his belly at the words.
“Okay. I cut and run to the nightclub.” She drew a staggered breath. “Then what happens?”
“All hell breaks loose.” With a Code Red, every member of the Brotherhood, as well as their associates, deployed with the sole purpose of bringing a fellow warrior home.
“I don’t like it.” Skye shook her head. “Are you sure there’s no other way around this?”
“No.” It came out sharper than he wanted.
She pulled back, frowning. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s not you,” he said quickly, trying to make amends. “I don’t like to think about the mission going sideways. It’s a luck thing.” He forced a smile. “Like those rabbit’s feet you can buy at every shop in Vegas. Not so lucky for the rabbit.”
“I just don’t want to think about what could happen, what could…” She sighed. “I don’t know if I could take losing you and Robby.”
“Hey.” Finn drew one finger along her cheek. “This is just a precaution. I want you to know this in case something happens—we always prepare for if something goes wrong. It’s not a forecast. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I can take care of myself. I’ve been on dangerous missions before, and I’ve always come back.”
“So far.”
The whispered reply dug into his heart.
“Promise me.” He locked eyes with her. “Promise me you’ll do this.”
Skye pressed her lips into a tight line before continuing. “Okay. I understand. I don’t like it, but I understand.” A flash of anger came into her eyes, one he knew all too well from his own experience. “If something happens to you I’ll see to it Smith goes down.”
“You call Dylan. You follow his lead and do as he says.” Finn put as much force into his voice as he dared. “I’m counting on you to do the right thing. Promise me you won’t go after Smith on your own, no matter what.” He cupped her cheek. “If you care for me, please promise.”
She paused for a second then nodded.

REVIEW: A LADY'S DECEPTION by PAMELA MINGLE

A Lady's Deception
Haslemere Men #2
By Pamela Mingle
Releasing August 28th, 2017
Entangled Publishing

In A Lady's Deception (Haslemere Men #2) by Pamela Mingle, Eleanor Broxton and Hugh Grey had very strong feelings for each other and spent an incredible night together before he headed off for war in Canada. Now two years later, Hugh is back with plenty of money; knighted and finding people calling him 'Sir'. Yet, there's one thing he wants more than anything, and that's to have Eleanor back in his life and by his side. Will Hugh be able to win Eleanor back, or will the secret she's been keeping turn them against each other when Hugh learns the truth?

Although I haven't read the first book of this series, I found this story could easily be read as a stand-alone, and it's a story that was totally riveting due to the main characters back stories, the secret the heroine is hiding from the hero, the tension between the main characters and the secondary ones that had me wanting to discover more about why Hugh is at odds with his family and why the heroine is having so much trouble dealing with someone determined to keep her apart from someone she loves. Will Hugh's family be able to find a way to repair things with the hero? Will the heroine find a way to protect someone she loves?

As for the dialogue, it had me hooked due to the main characters back stories and the history between them that has the heroine desperate to keep her secret hidden from the hero. Will she be able to keep her secret under wraps or will Hugh discover the truth? Moreover, the dialogue was also intense due to the main characters back stories, as the heroine hasn't always had the best relationship with her parents, but it seems her dad is determined to do better, which is proven by everything he does for her. However, in saying that, with a mother like hers who needs enemies?

Both the main characters were intriguing and I really enjoyed their interactions, as the hero is determined to win Eleanor over, no matter how many times she snubs him or does her best to stay away from him. I also liked how kind and considerate he was and that he was determined to help her in any way he could, especially when it came to her career as a designer and anyone that dares to make her feel like she's less than the good woman she is. While the heroine, she's been through so much and I couldn't help but feel sorry for her when it came to dealing with her mother; a mother that should support her daughter and not make her feel like she should be punished for what the woman sees as Eleanor's mistake that could lead to a scandal. Really, is mixing with their social circle more important than her daughter? Yet, I liked that the heroine was strong, brave and finally stood up to those that were determined to make her feel like her life wasn't good enough because of what they believe was ruin to her name. However, in saying that, I did find her need to run to her dad to fix things was a bit hard to handle, especially when Hugh was so willing to help her if she just let him in. Will the truth come out before Eleanor can reveal to the hero what she's hiding?

Overall, Ms. Mingle has delivered a story with plenty of chemistry between the main characters that kept me wondering if they'd ever find their way back to each other, considering the tough obstacles they faced; and plenty of emotion that had me sympathizing with both the hero and heroine. The way this story ended had me loving the hero more than I already did, as he's driven and so determined to win back the heroine after everything he puts her through. Can she forgive him? Furthermore, I liked how the hero made things right with the secondary characters in his family that deserve his forgiveness and the chance for them to be the family they never got to be because of what happened between his mother and father that turned his father into a man unwilling to compromise. I would recommend A Lady's Deception by Pamela Mingle, if you enjoy Historical Romance, second chance romances, or books by authors Tina Gabrielle, Callie Hutton, Stacy Reid and Christi Caldwell.

REVIEW: THE COLDEST FEAR by DEBRA WEBB

The Coldest Fear
Shades of Death #3
By Debra Webb
Releasing August 29th, 2017
Harlequin MIRA

In The Coldest Fear (Shades of Death #3) by Debra Webb, Nick Shade is the one man that's managed to help Bobbie past her grief after the death of her husband and son. So, with Nick determined to go on the hunt for his serial-killer father; a dangerous man that has escaped from prison, Bobbie decides she won't be far behind. However, when she's dragged into an investigation as a distraction, Bobbie needs to unravel what is going on before things become too dangerous for her and Nick. Will Bobbie be able to uncover the truth in order to survive?

This series has been a wild ride when it comes to the suspense; everything the main characters have been through as they've outwitted killers and been pushed to the brink when it comes to the loses they've suffered; and this third book of Ms. Webb's Shades of Death series was scintillating, fast-paced and a story I could not put down. The way this story started had me liking the heroine and her determination to help Nick with finding his dad, even though she knows he wouldn't accept her help because he's protective of her. Will she be able to convince him otherwise? Especially since she's overcome a lot all ready and has proven she can handle herself in a tough situation against the most dangerous of criminals.

As for the dialogue, it was powerful, intense and took me on a rollercoaster of emotions, as the investigation Bobbie's been invited into takes plenty of twists and turns that could lead to Nick's world being turned upside down and could make Bobbie think back on all she's lost, especially her son. Furthermore, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how determined she was to aid both the police department she's helping and how determined she was to help Nick, because the two of them working together is better than them each working alone. I also liked how cool Bobbie was under pressure, especially when it came to standing up for herself when it came to her relationship with Nick. While Nick, he's resourceful, determined and I liked how protective he was of Bobbie and that he would do anything for her. Then again, there's no talking Bobbie out of doing her job, no matter how dangerous things could become. I also liked how this story unwound when it came to the hero's back story and how it's different to what he's believed over the years.

Overall, Ms. Webb has penned a scintillating and worthwhile read in this book where the chemistry between Nick and Bobbie was as strong as ever and the ending had me on the edge-of-my-seat due to what one of the main characters goes through and took me by surprise by what readers learn about Nick. I would recommend The Coldest Fear by Debra Webb, if you enjoy romantic suspense, mystery novels, or books by authors Cynthia Eden, Sharon Sala, Lisa Jackson and Mary Burton.

REVIEW: CLAIMING HIS ONE-NIGHT BABY by MICHELLE SMART

Claiming his One-Night Baby
Bound to a Billionaire #2
By Michelle Smart
Releasing August 22nd, 2017
Harlequin Presents

In Claiming his One-Night Baby by Michelle Smart, Natasha Pellegrini and Matteo Manaserro were once very close until she broke his trust and married another man. However, the night of her husband's funeral, things get out of control and Natasha and Matteo surrender to the intense chemistry that still blazes between them. Determined to do whatever it takes to care for Natasha when he discovers she pregnant, he knows he can't afford to fall for her again. But resisting her proves hard and when her secrets are finally revealed, will the hero be able to forgive her, or will they again lose the one person that can fill their lives with the love and happiness they deserve?

Ms Smart is a writer that does the enemy to lovers trope exceptionally well, which is proven by the powerful and emotional back stories and the history between these two that makes Matteo determined to keep his distance after their one-night together, even if he's willing to do right by the heroine; the intense dialogue that made me feel sorry for the heroine because of the secret she's hidden to protect those she cares about; and the obstacles these two face to be together, as Natasha needs to find a way to win back Matteo's trust. Will it be possible, considering how much he hates what she did?

Both the main characters are riveting and I liked how determined the hero was to help protect the heroine from any fallout with her late husband's family when it came to her pregnancy. I also liked how sympathetic the hero was to the heroine's secret once she revealed a truth that no-one even suspected. While the heroine, she's been through so much and I felt sorry for her because of the pressure she felt from her parents to marry the wrong man. I also couldn't help but sympathize with her when it came to the secret she's been keeping and that she felt by keeping it she was protecting those she cared for. However, in saying that, she was strong and brave when it came to the moment someone was determined to protect her reputation and that she was finally ready to stop allowing her parents to influence any decisions for her.

Overall, Ms. Smart has penned a fascinating read in this book where the chemistry was intense; the romance full of affection and showed how much these two cared for each other, despite what Natasha did to him; and the ending had me empathizing with the heroine because of what happens between Matteo and Natasha that breaks them apart. However, I enjoyed that Matteo made things right with Natasha, especially in the moment where she finds herself in the spotlight and hounded by those that love to expose secrets. I would recommend Claiming his One-Night Baby by Michelle Smart, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Miranda Lee, Cathy Williams, Carole Mortimer and Kate Hewitt.

REVIEW: ENGAGED FOR HER ENEMY'S HEIR by KATE HEWITT

Engaged for her Enemy's Heir
One Night with Consequences #32
By Kate Hewitt
Releasing August 22nd, 2017
Harlequin Presents

In Engaged for her Enemy's Heir by Kate Hewitt, Rafael Vitali is determined to get revenge on his family's enemy, but when he discovers that the woman he slept with is the man's daughter, Rafael is determined to do everything he can to forget her. However, when Allegra realizes she's pregnant and turns to him when she needs help, Rafael realizes the only thing to do is insist Allegra marry him and move to Sicily. Will Allegra be able to give Rafael another chance after how he treated her, or will she leave rather continue to go at things alone?

This story, which encompasses the revenge and opposites attract tropes was such a riveting read due to the tension between the main characters that creates wonderful chemistry; the emotion from the characters that made me sympathize with their back stories; and entertaining dialogue that had me enjoying the way the heroine stands up to the hero when it comes to the decisions they make when it comes to their baby and her life being turned upside down since no way will she put up with his domineering ways. The way this story started had me feeling sorry for the heroine, as she wasn't close to her father. Should she be at the man's funeral when he was never there for her growing up?

As for the dialogue, it was attention-grabbing and had me hooked due to the main characters back stories and the reason for Rafael wanting to take down the person that wrecked his family. Moreover, I felt sorry for the heroine when it came to how things went down with her father and how she lost him years ago. I could also understand why she was so determined to discover the truth about why her father did what he did to her and her mother once she learns more about the hero's past. Yet, what I liked most about the heroine is how resilient she was when it came to dealing with the hero and the moment when she learnt the truth of who falsely accused Rafael's father.

While the hero, he's arrogant, hard-working and a man determined to always get what he wants. He's come a long way since what happened to his father, but I found it was hard not to feel sorry about the fact that he's been unable to help his sister and how difficult his relationship with his sister is because of what she believes he did. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is how he let the heroine into his life and how she helped him to realize that what his father did wasn't his fault.

Overall, Ms. Hewitt has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry was strong; the romance was wonderfully crafted and shows how good these two are together; and the ending left me completely captivated because Rafael finally got the answers to get closure from his past and the heroine got the answers she needed when it came to her father and why he deserted her. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, because of how far the hero and heroine have come in their relationship. I would recommend Engaged for her Enemy's Heir by Kate Hewitt, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope, the opposites attract trope, or books by authors Miranda Lee, Cathy Williams, Carole Mortimer and Michelle Smart.

REVIEW: UNDERCOVER WITH THE HEIRESS by NAN DIXON

Undercover with the Heiress
Fitzgerald House #5
By Nan Dixon
Releasing August 1st, 2017
Harlequin Super Romance

In Undercover with the Heiress (Fitzgerald House #5) by Nan Dixon, FBI agent Kaden Farrell has an important mission to accomplish and doesn't have time for distractions. But heiress Courtney Smythe is proving more and more tempting every time he's around her. However, she may be the only one capable of helping him get the little girl who is the key to his investigation to open up about things she could possibly know to do with her criminal mother. Will Kaden put his trust in Courtney, or will he destroy their chance at happy ever after before they've even begun getting to know more about each other than the fact Courtney is a spoiled brat who is good with children?

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Dixon, and it was a wonderful read that I thoroughly enjoyed, despite the way it started and my thinking the heroine was nothing more than a rich girl that was too spoiled and definitely needed what her father does to finally become the woman she's meant to be. A woman that can be independent and find her way in life, instead of relying on her father's money to give her everything she wants. Yet, in saying that, I liked how she realized she might not get her old life back and began to become this totally different person. Someone that could live without being spoiled and learn to become independent. Will she realize that money isn't everything; that money isn't the key to happiness?

As for the dialogue, it was very entertaining, fast-paced and had me enjoying the hero and the heroine due to the suspense of this story; the way they interact with each other that illustrates the strong chemistry between them; and the way Kaden begins to see that Courtney is more than just a spoiled rich girl the more she gets to know her. Moreover, I loved how strong and brave the heroine is once she realized her father won't change his mind when it comes to what he's done to make her finally start to take control of her life. I also liked how good she is with the children she cares for and that she would do anything to protect them, which is proven by what she does for the little girl that is the key to Kaden's investigation. While the hero, he's confident, determined to his job no matter the consequences of keeping the fact that he's undercover a secret, and I liked how protective he was of the heroine, because he knows how dangerous things could get with the people he was after.

Overall, Ms. Dixon has delivered a fantastic and riveting read in this book where the secondary characters were just as good as the main ones and really help the heroine to find the direction she wants her life to take. The way this story ended had me worried for the main characters, but I liked the way it brought the hero and heroine together after everything that happens between them. I would recommend Undercover with the Heiress by Nan Dixon, if you enjoy the sexy protector trope, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Julianna Morris, Stephanie Doyle, Kathy Altman and Rachel Brimble.

REVIEW: THE LAWMAN'S APACHE MOON by DEBRA HOLT

The Lawman's Apache Moon
Texas Lawmen #2
By Debra Holt
Releasing August 10th, 2017
Tule Publishing

In The Lawman's Apache Moon (Texas Lawmen #2) by Debra Holt, Angelina Lord needs to get to Santa Fe, New Mexico as quickly as possible. But it seems her new ride, Jace Blackhawke, the best man from the wedding she attended in Texas has other ideas. When his family learn he has a new woman in his life and believe the pair's relationship is more than it is, Jace will do anything to prove how important Angelina is to him. But as Angelina and Jace do their best to show their marriage is the real deal, it gets harder and harder for the pair to remember that their marriage has an end date. Will Jace be able to convince Angelina that happy ever after can be possible between them, or will Angelina's need to protect herself from hurt send her running from the best thing that's ever happened to her -- love with the right man?

The first book of this series was a delightful read with memorable characters such as Angelina and Jace, so I was really looking forward to reading this book and I've got to say that it was just as captivating and remarkable. The way this story started had me loving the main characters immediately, as Angelina is so focused on getting a new fashion boutique up and running in Santa Fe and nothing will stand in her way. However, plans don't always come to fruition, especially when it comes to men and the reason Jace is determined to do anything for family. Will Angelina go along with his plan? Will she be able to pull off how much in love she is with Jace, even if she's only supposed to be pretending? Will his family be accepting of the heroine?

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories and I loved every moment the hero and heroine conversed, as the hero can be quite persuasive in getting Angelina to see reason. Jace's family are important to him and he would do anything for them, even if it means deceiving them to show he's happy. Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how driven she was when it came to her business. Nothing will stand in her way when it comes to her expansion plans, certainly not the hero. I also liked that she was willing to help Jace, even though it's not easy for her to let someone in. While the hero, I loved how determined he was to win Angelina over, even though he knows it won't be easy. Her walls are quite tall when it comes to letting someone in and it's palpable she has serious trust issues because of her past and being a foster kid. I also liked how good the hero was at his job as a US Marshal and that he would do anything he could to get bad guys off the streets.

Overall, Ms. Holt has penned another wonderful read for this series where the chemistry between this couple was intense and had me enjoying the way Jace won Angelina over, even though there's a major bump in their growing relationship when it comes to his job, some kids he rescued and whether he would be able to see things from the heroine's point-of-view when it came to their welfare. However, in saying that, I liked how Jace won the heroine back. The surprise he gave her was special and definitely something that would show Angelina how much he cares for her. I would recommend The Lawman's Apache Moon by Debra Holt, if you enjoy the marriage of convenience trope, the fake relationship trope or books by authors Ann B. Harrison, Sinclair Jayne, Justine Davis and Kate Pearce.

BLURB
"No more detours!" That was the promise Angelina Lord made to herself when she accepted a ride from a wedding in Texas, with the best man to her destination in Santa Fe, New Mexico. What could possibly go wrong?

Angelina is focused on one thing–opening a fashion boutique in Santa Fe. What she really doesn’t need is one full-of-himself lawman with his aggravating air of superiority and soul-searing eyes…not to mention heart-stopping kisses…coming to her rescue. If she lets him get too close to the truth, he could bring down the wall she erected around her well-ordered life and her heart.

United States Marshal Jace Blackhawke holds family and traditions as the center of his life. He isn’t part of Angie’s world and she certainly isn’t part of his. Will their differences
prove to be too insurmountable in the face of the truth that will not stay silent?
