Forever
In Wrecked by JB Salsbury, Sawyer Forrester is struggling to accept that her twin sister is dying. Yet, knowing she only has a few months to live, Sawyer is determined to honor the promise she gives her sister. However, pretending to be her twin sister isn't easy, especially when they're as different as chalk and cheese with her sister being outgoing to the introverted Sawyer. Yet, Sawyer never expected to meet and fall for Aden Colt; a gorgeous man that's haunted by his past. Will Sawyer tell Aden the truth about who she really is, or will she lose her chance at forever after with the man she's falling hard for?
What an outstanding, fast-paced, spellbinding read Ms. Salsbury has penned in this story that left me a wreck due to the emotional roller-coaster of the main characters back stories and the journey the hero and heroine take on their path to happy ever after, but was a story worth every tear spilt. The way this story started with the prologue had me sympathizing with the hero, because of what happens during his time in the military. Why didn't he trust his men more, instead of going with his instincts? However, it was from the moment Aden and Sawyer were introduced to each other where this story began to make me smile, as the hero teases the heroine with his pet names and talk about meat and babies.
The dialogue was well-written, told from the first person point-of-view and intense due to the main characters back stories; what's happening with Sawyer's sister that made me want to cry every time they conversed; the torment Aden is suffering from due to what happened on his last mission in the military; and the ending that had me hoping everything would work out for the best because of Sawyer's secret. Furthermore, the dialogue was also compelling due it's delightful combination of intense and playful moments that had me absolutely beguiled by both the main characters while they go through tough times as they fall in love.
The chemistry between Aden and Sawyer was incredible and had me reading this book so quickly, determined to discover when Aden would learn the truth about the heroine. Would he be able to accept the truth of why Sawyer was hiding who she really was? Moreover, the heroine is resilient and courageous in her endeavor to be her sister, even though it's not an easy feat because they're so different. I also liked how Sawyer grew throughout this story, as she stepped outside her comfort zone and tried new experiences. While Aden, he was such a loveable character and has so much guilt because of what happened to his men on his last mission; a mission he doesn't like to talk about because it brings back bad memories. I also sympathized with him when it came to him isolating himself from his family, believing he's a danger to them. Will his nightmares ever disappear? Will the heroine be able to help the hero realize that what happened to his men wasn't his fault?
Overall, Ms. Salsbury has penned a riveting read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was off-the-charts, the romance explosive and the ending had me crying happy tears and then laughing, as Sawyer does her best to win Aden back with her beautiful words and then the hero does his best to tease and scare off the heroine's ex. Way to go, Aden! However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly, as we discover how far Aden and Sawyer have come in their relationship; whether the hero is still calling the heroine adorable nicknames; and if Aden has repaired his relationship with his family. I would recommend Wrecked by JB Salsbury, if you enjoy the mistaken identity trope, the opposites attract trope, or books by authors Sawyer Bennett, Jay Crownover, Kendall Ryan or Terri Anne Browning.
BLURB
Wrecked is the new standalone novel of deliciously dark, deeply emotional contemporary romance from J.B. Salsbury, the New York Times bestselling author of Split and The Fighting Series.
When you can’t trust yourself, how can you ask anyone else to?
It’s been months since Aden Colt left the Army, and still the memories haunt him. When he moved into a boat off the California coast, he thought he’d found the perfect place to escape life.
Then Sawyer shows up, and turns his simple life upside down.
Beautiful and sophisticated, she seems out of place in this laidback beach town. Something is pushing her to experience everything she can—including Aden. But as much as he wants her, starting a relationship with Sawyer puts them both at risk.
For Aden, the past doesn’t stay there; it shows up unexpectedly, uncontrollably, and doesn’t care whose life it wrecks.
