In Burning Love (Hot Aussie Knights #4) by Trish Morey, Ava Mattiske finds it hard to trust, but that fact doesn't stop her from getting up close and personal with firefighter Caleb Knight. However, their relationship is supposed to be all about physical and not getting to know each other on a more personal level. But when Caleb wants more out of their relationship, will Ava realize how much she cares for Caleb before it's too late, or has her past messed her up too much to give happy ever after a chance?

What a heartwarming and riveting tale Ms. Morey has penned in this story, which has ended the Hot Aussie Knights series wonderfully. The way this story started had me sympathizing with the hero, as he's had a rough day in his job as a firefighter; a day that no doubt will leave him with nightmares, if not for the heroine's brand of healing that had me intrigued by their relationship. They have really good chemistry, but Ava is determined to remain indifferent because of her past and how she doesn't think she deserves happiness. Will the heroine realize that Caleb is someone she can trust before it's too late?

The dialogue was intense and harrowing due to the heroine's back story, and everything that happened to Ava in her past had me sympathizing with the fact that she believes the only person she can trust is herself. She's been betrayed by too many people in her life including her parents and putting her trust in Caleb makes her too vulnerable to being hurt again. However, I liked how she came to realize that Caleb is a good guy, even though she'll never be able to forgive her parents even after what happens to them and what she receives in the form of an apology. I also liked her passion for her art and how far she's managed to come after everything she's been through in her life.

While Caleb, he's just as fantastic as the heroes from the other books of this series. He has a lot of tough choices to make, especially since there's nothing he wants more than to change their relationship and make it more than they have now. Can he get Ava to open up to him about her past? Will he prove to the heroine that what happened in her past doesn't matter? He's captivated by the woman she's grown into and how whatever she's survived has made her the strong, independent woman she is. I also like how Caleb proves to the heroine that she can trust him by always being there for Ava when she needs him.

Finally, the way this story ended had me concerned for this couple's happy ever after, as Ava is determined to push Caleb away no matter how much he proves she can trust him. However, in saying that, I liked how she managed to overcome her fear of putting her trust in the wrong person, because she realizes that Caleb is the one person that has always been there for her from almost the moment they met. Moreover, the epilogue wrapped this story up nicely, because of the family get together and the way the cousins tease each other; what the Knight family learns about the investigation into the terrible fires and whether their grandfather was at fault; what Ava is willing to do for the firefighters with her art; and the words Caleb and Ava spoke to each other right at the end that proves love conquers all. I would recommend Burning Love by Trish Morey, if you've read the other books of this series, if you enjoy firefighter heroes or enjoy books by authors Amy Andrews, Sinclair Jayne or Victoria Purman.

BLURB
Caleb Knight’s ex accused him of being married to his firefighter job, and maybe she was right. He’s given up looking for happy ever after and finds what he needs between Ava’s scorching sheets. But lately, he’s wondering whether this thing with Ava might become more permanent…

Artist Ava Mattiske's ability to trust was shattered long ago. Her steamy fling with Caleb is perfect until he starts talking long-term. She puts on the brakes, but when a bushfire threatens her studio and Caleb is on the scene, Ava realizes that there is one man she can count on... But will it be too late?
