In Mister Moneybags by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward, Bianca George never imagined that when she went to interview the man she's dubbed 'Mister Moneybags' she'd fall in love. Except with secrets of the past coming to light and the man she's falling for spinning lies, how is Bianca supposed to trust that things will work out, especially when her connection with Dex Truitt could turn out to be something they never imagined possible.
What a highly entertaining, fast-paced, beguiling read Ms. Keeland and Ms. Ward have penned in this story, which grabbed my attention from the very beginning and didn't let go until the end. The way this story started had me laughing at the playful banter between Dex and Bianca. He does his best to keep her from flipping out too much at the situation they're in, yet he has his work cut out for him. What is he supposed to do when she reveals just what she thinks of the man she believes him to be?
The dialogue was compelling and made me laugh, made me cry and made this story a real page turner for me, as Dex seems to continue to dig himself deeper into a mess he may not be able to get himself out of with the lies he's racking up. Will Bianca be able to forgive him when she isn't a fan of people that don't tell the truth? How will she react when she learns the truth? Indeed, I could sympathize with Bianca in the moment when Dex admits everything, but the hero's lies are nothing compared to the secrets of the past that are revealed. Secrets that threaten the relationships Bianca has with Dex and those of her family? Will Bianca be able to forgive her parents? Will she be able to help her sister deal with a shocking secret that's revealed?
Bianca is strong and brave with the way she handles everything thrown at her. Everything she believed about what happened between her parents, about who Dex really is isn't easy for her to hear, but I'm glad she didn't give up on getting to know Dex more when his lies are exposed. Because it's palpable she needs him when they discover secrets of the past that threaten Bianca and Dex's growing relationship and threaten the close relationships Bianca has with her mother and sister. While Dex, he's confident, hard-working and I liked how determined he is to win Bianca's heart and the lengths he goes to in winning back her trust. Certainly, she needs him and I was glad that he didn't allow her to push him away. Not even in the moment when they learnt the one thing that neither of them were ready to face. Also, I liked how Dex befriends a man that helps him realize that telling the truth no matter how painful it may be is always the right course of action. Otherwise if he continued to withhold things he knew, he could lose the woman he's coming to love.
Overall, this was another outstanding read by these two fabulous authors where the romance and chemistry was intense and satisfying, even though there wasn't a lot of physical intimacy between Dex and Bianca because of everything they go through and the secret that threatens to keep them apart until they learn the truth. The way this story ended had me worried for this couple's happy ever after, but they both needed to know the truth no matter how painful it would be. Luckily, it was good news. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly, because I discovered just how far Dex and Bianca have come since their good news and how Bianca's sister is handling her own news. I would highly recommend Mister Moneybags by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, if you want a story that will give you all the feels, or if you enjoy books by authors Alessandra Torre, Lauren Blakely or Kendall Ryan.
OVERALL RATING
BLURB:
I
met Bianca in an elevator.
She
was on her way to interview me when we got stuck.
The
beautiful, raven-haired reporter assumed I was a delivery guy because of the
way I was dressed.
She
had no clue I was really Dex Truitt, the wealthy, successful businessman she’d
dubbed “Mister Moneybags”—her afternoon appointment.
Bianca
told me how much she hated Dex’s type—snobby, over educated, silver- spooned
men who didn't appreciate the simple things in life.
So,
after the elevator finally started moving again, I cancelled the interview and
let her believe I was someone I wasn’t—a bike messenger named Jay. I loved the
way she looked at the fake me and didn't want it to end.
I
began dating her as “Jay”—all the while letting her interview the real me over
email.
I
didn’t expect that our chemistry online would be just as hot.
I
didn’t expect the mess I’d gotten myself into.
I
didn’t expect that Jay and Dex would fall in love with her.
And
she was falling for two men.
Only,
both men were me.
And
when she found out, we were both going to lose her.
Nothing
could have prepared me for that day. And I certainly wasn't prepared for what
came after.
All
good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn't see coming.
