In Dirty Deeds (Likely Story #1) by AJ Nuest, Eden Smith's childhood wasn't an easy one. She faced a lot of hard times, but has risen above it by running a business that helps people get revenge against those that have wronged them. However, when the murder of a police informant occurs and is somehow connected to Eden's past, can she help detective Kelly Riordan solve the case before any more murders happen, or is the person responsible for the crime only just beginning?

What a powerful, emotional and gripping tale Ms. Nuest has penned in this book that hooked me from the very beginning and kept me enthralled until the very end. Indeed, this story is romantic suspense at its best with its incredible main and secondary characters, plot twists that made me -- as a reader -- desperate to know what would come next, and an ending that was completely satisfying especially after all that Eden and Kelly go through as they investigate the case, combat their pasts and prove that revenge has never been sweeter by what Eden does for Kelly.

The dialogue was intense due to the main characters back stories, especially that of the heroine. She didn't have it easy growing up, and it's made her hard and unable to trust people besides those in her inner circle. Certainly, she's accomplished a lot in her life, and I could understand how her past has made her into the woman she is. No one deserves what she had to go through, and I could empathize with her when it came to those she believes she failed. However, I liked how Kelly gains her trust by proving that he won't let her down. Even when there are things he doesn't agree with her doing, because they put her in the path of a total psychopath.

While Kelly, he's a total pit-bull when it comes to things he wants and nothing and no-one will stop him from solving the case and winning Eden's heart. Certainly, he faces quite the challenge with Eden as she's so independent and has major trust issues, but I liked that he didn't give up, even when she makes things difficult for him by wanting to do things her way when it came to the bad guy. Also, I could understand why he was a tad hesitant to get involved with Eden in the beginning because of his past, but I liked that it didn't hold him back too much, as he and the heroine are made for each other. Their chemistry is off-the-charts and spills over onto the pages wonderfully with plenty of passion and heat.

Overall, Ms. Nuest has penned a must read romantic suspense in this story, which starts her Likely Story series off brilliantly and has me looking forward to reading more of this series. The way this story ended had me concerned for the heroine, as the bad guy would do anything to seek his revenge, even if it meant putting his own life on the line. Luckily, Eden is resourceful, such a quick thinker and determined to see justice served. I would highly recommend Dirty Deeds by AJ Nuest, especially if you enjoy romantic suspense, the sexy protector trope or books by authors Kelly Moran, Cheyenne McCray, Kate Serine or Nico Rosso.

BLURB:
An Eye for an Eye

As owner of Dirty Deeds, a tech-savvy company specializing in the age-old art of revenge, Eden Smith knows first-hand that secrecy is critical. But when a dead body washes up on the shores of Lake Michigan clutching her business card, Eden’s well-constructed world begins to fall apart. Apparently, she’s not the only one with a passion for payback, and staying alive to outsmart a killer has become her most important job of all.

A Game for a Game

Hardened homicide detective Kelly Riordan is convinced Eden Smith is hiding more than she’s willing to admit. Years on the force have taught him that nothing is what it seems, and that couldn’t be truer than when it comes to investigating the alluring owner of a revenge-for-hire business. But revealing her past could put everything Eden has worked for in jeopardy. And trusting a man like Riordan goes against the very instincts that have kept her alive this long.
