Releasing February 20th, 2018

Welcome to Gold Valley, Oregon, where a rough-and-tumble rancher and the girl next door are about to learn that opposites attract.

Olivia Logan has a plan: win back her ex by making him see what he’s missing. But first she needs to find a man who’s willing to play along. With his laid-back cowboy charm and knack for getting under her skin, Luke Hollister is an unlikely hero—but he wants her help convincing her father to sell him land, which means he needs her as much as she needs him.

Luke likes his life—and his women—uncomplicated. So why does good girl Olivia heat his blood like no one else? She’s always been off-limits, but the more time they spend as Gold Valley’s hottest new “couple,” the more real it’s starting to feel. Luke was supposed to help her win back another man…not keep her in his arms. But now that he has her there, he’s not sure he’ll ever let go.

In Smooth-Talking Cowboy (Gold Valley #1) by Maisey Yates, Olivia Logan is determined to get her ex back, but there's just one problem. The only way that's going to happen is to make him realize what's he missing and the only way she thinks that'll happen is if she makes him jealous. Yet, she never imagined getting Luke Hollister involved could turn out like it does when she finds herself falling for the gorgeous cowboy instead. Will Olivia be able to show Luke that love is worth the risk, or will he allow his past continue to keep him from ever taking a chance on the woman he's fallen in love with?

I've found that the fake relationship trope always provides a good read, and I've got to say that Ms. Yates pens a wonderful read in this first story of her Gold Valley series. Most especially because the main characters are a cocky and charming hero and a fairly innocent rich girl that face some tough obstacles to be together including whether her parents will approve of her choice in men and whether Luke will be able to get past his demons that make him afraid of happy ever after. What if the hero takes a chance and he loses Olivia?

Both the main characters entertained me from start to finished with the their back stories, their wonderful growing relationship and the obstacles these two face in order to be together? Furthermore, I could understand why the heroine has always done what was right because she didn't want to worry her parents anymore than they already were due to what happened with Olivia's twin. I also liked that the heroine was finally doing something for herself instead of continuing to do what's right all the time. While the hero, he's done well for himself considering what happened when he was a teen that's left him afraid of love and happiness for fear that if he took a chance that he might lose that person. Yet, in saying that, he's resilient, charming and I liked that he was willing to help the heroine. Then again, in helping her he gets something in return that's worth a lot to him. Will he get what he wants? However, there was one thing that did frustrate me and that's something the hero called the heroine. It made it seem as though her age compared to his was an issue. Does he really see her as a kid compared to him?

Overall, Ms. Yates has delivered a wonderful read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance steamy and full of heat and passion; and the ending had me loving what the hero did to prove to the heroine that he wants her in his life forever. I would recommend Smooth-Talking Cowboy by Maisey Yates, if you enjoy the fake relationship trope or books by authors Kate Pearce, Lindsay McKenna, Jennifer Ryan and Lori Wilde.
